    Good Job, and as an Army Retiree thank you for helping this young Marine. I've always said IF I ever won the Lottery I was going to start a Veterans Charity that helps Vets with disabilities and PTSD through building cars and trucks and then auctioning them and putting that money back in to the Charity. Alot of us love classic and custom cars and we love tickering on stuff, It seems like it would be a good fit.

    As a Marine it's always nice to see these young Devil dogs taking the opportunity to learn the Old School way to get results. This will be a good experience for him in his future endeavors and to build his knowledge to new heights. From someone who has enjoyed the car sean and has been stationed all over the world at one point or another having the ability to tackle these projects has been a great way to own many fun cars and make som serious cash when they are finished.I have been able to own many different dream cars and they always want something at mostly inopportune times and some knowledge under one's belt has been priceless. Great job showing this young man how to do this. As His brother from a different mother I'm glad to see honorable people help our service members achieve the goals present in their own lives and the fact that this young man is making better decisions by fixing his car up instead of hanging around the barracks with the other guy's playing video games or drinking just to pas the time away. Great job young man. Good video and I'm subscribing after I finish my comment here and I am looking forward to these videos. Semper Fi Marine.

    Kid did a pretty damn good job workin that mud down….cant wait to see this thing in paint….i painted my nova in my garage after watching several hours on top of hours of you tube videos before i worked up the courage to just do it….glad i did cause it turnt out awesome, to where i painted 3 other cars and have one more to do, and each one turns out better than the last!!!! My cars are all drivers so im not looking for a show car finish thats just gonna get dinged and scratched from everyday use…..but they still look better than some of the stuff others pay good money for , so thats great for me!!!

    this reminds me to my dad teaching me how to fix small dents and do small pain fixes on my car, I'm really happy to see this because not everyone takes the time to teach somebody out of just wanting to teach someone how to do something

    My little Sister brought one of those to me....25 years ago or so.
    Paint was cheap, but the body had been ravaged. After weeks of chipping off BONDO...(maybe White Star) and bumping out dents...it cost me( back then) about $125 to put 3 coats of Jalapeño Red on it.
    MAN was i happy to see it leave

      Everyone oohs and ahhs at the high end paint jobs - and my current projects are going to get my best efforts. Those paint jobs (materials) also require $$$ and not everybody can afford that, but the same best efforts can be applied for less $$ with damn good results.

    It's not even affordable to rework a car these days.

      He's putting in the sweat & labor (most of it!) plus buying the paint, I'm donating the materials, tools and knowledge. My way of saying thanks to Alex for his service and paying it forward. My other projects will get the $10K+ paint job but I want to show that a good result can be had for less.

      Agreed! It's cheaper to just buy new panels, You can get new quarter panels for a 71 Mustang for less than $100 a piece, It's Cheaper, easier and faster just to put new quarter panels on it.

    Not so much on this Mustang's quarter panel as the undercoating would be too hard to sand on but other areas where there is small dent if you can sand the inside you will expose the exact spot to work on for the outside..the edges of the dent will be real shiny to pin point that area..

      I thought something didn't look right with it! (I don't know those era Stangs that well). When he comes to the shop next we'll fix it!

  • @jamesf4405
    @jamesf4405 Před měsícem +1

    I can explain why the previous shop did such a poor job. Money. The owner either didn't want to pay to get it done right, or they just couldn't afford it. The shop did what they could. Then, later, no one knows what happened and they get blamed and called thieves. That'll put a shop out of business quick, just for being nice. I sure wish this kid could've bought a new quarter. One day that bondo will crack and someone will make a video saying the shop ripped him off.

    • @MaverickModds
      @MaverickModds  Před měsícem

      The other shop did rip him off. I know because I'm the one helping him deal with it now. Next video will show some close-ups of what's on there now. the quarter? Yep, it's a lot of bondo, but he wants to eventually spend the money to do the car up nice, just can't now.

    • @TheREALOC1972
      @TheREALOC1972 Před měsícem

      Only yeah.... they ripped him off, They saw that body work and saw dollar signs. It would have been cheaper, easier and faster to just off the quarters and put new ones on, they should have told him that. The average Body shop charges $110 labor hour, it would take roughly 3 hours to cut out both quarters and weld in both of the new ones. That little spot they did took twice that amount of shop time, and they still have the other side to fix, so they charged him twice as much on a temporary repair when they could have fixed it permanently for half cost in half the time. That is the text book defination of ripping off a customer. Idk anyone who wants to spend twice as much in twice the time for a temporary fix when they could spend half as much in half as much time to fix it right and permanently.

    Do they even make paint cheap enough to do the job in this economy

    • @MaverickModds
      @MaverickModds  Před 19 dny

      Just barely, but yes. There is no way to do modern 2-stage paint at that price - my last gallon of black base coat (pretty much the cheapest color) was around $230. Add a gallon of clear at $100 (cheapo stuff) to $200 (good stuff) + activator, reducer etc. and 2-stage intro cost is about $500/$600. This is PPG, Sikkens, Akzo-Nobel type paints. Drop down to single stage urethanes you can get to around $200/gal depending on color mix. Add 2K primer to the above, add another $200 to $300 to the cost.
      Drop down another step to non-catalyzed paints and you can get into the budget Alex has. 1K primers, lacquers or acrylic enamel topcoats can barely fit into the $200 total cost range.
