I'm just so done with this country. Just more or less made an agreement with my parents that we're gonna share their house/cottage year round. The catch is there's no economy where we're going. So our combined 11 years of schooling is gonna be a paper weight on our minimum wage aprons. I'd love to pretend that me and my wife are over educated and useless. The reality is we're both not using our talents avoiding high stress jobs. We've given up because we'd have to make 300k a year to afford 2 cars a house and childcare in London. Or we can go home make 30 k a year combined, with free child care and a free house. It's a no brainer.

I'm a 70 year old retiree living in rural Ontario. In 2023 I received $688.75 in Climate Action Incentive payments from the Federal government. I used 6654 litres of propane to heat my house last year, costing me $669.39 in carbon tax (@$0.1006 per litre). I also purchased 2991 litres of gasoline for my car to drive about 30,000KM, costing me $428.13 in carbon tax (@$0.1431 per litre). This has resulted in a direct fiscal net loss to me of $408.77 in 2023 in excess carbon tax paid vs. rebates received. In my opinion, the report by the Parliamentary Budget Officer that estimates economic impacts on Canadians of the carbon tax has greatly understated these costs. And the constant statements made by the government that 8 out of 10 Canadians are getting back more in rebates than is paid in carbon tax is completely laughable.
Wait, you expect to drive 30,000km in a single year and you want more incentives to do so? The CAIP is designed to offset, not cover, your costs. You drove so much that you're not able to offset your costs. The average annual VKT just so you know is around 16,000 so you drove a gas powered vehicle twice as much as the average person, hence the net loss.

I used to get a tax refund every year. Then Trudeau came along and I was punished for living an honest life (which he doesn’t) and supporting my family with my sweat and pain (which he never has). Now I owe money. Please, vote Trudeau out immediately, Canada. Otherwise I will have to turn to crime soon. Criminals seem to get off pretty easily lately so I can’t be blamed for doing the math.

I agree with you. I came to Canada from socialist Eastern European country 40 years ago. Canada was a land of opportunity for hard-working people.
Immigration was measured, targeted, and managed. I came with an engineering degree and got a job 2 weeks after my arrival. I kept contributing to society and the treasurer until my retirement. I'm just so done with this country. Just more or less made an agreement with my parents that we're gonna share their house/cottage year round. The catch is there's no economy where we're going. So our combined 11 years of schooling is gonna be a paper weight on our minimum wage aprons. I'd love to pretend that me and my wife are over educated and useless. The reality is we're both not using our talents avoiding high stress jobs. We've given up because we'd have to make 300k a year to afford 2 cars a house and childcare in London. Or we can go home make 30 k a year combined, with free child care and a free house. It's a no brainer.

I'm a 70 year old retiree living in rural Ontario. In 2023 I received $688.75 in Climate Action Incentive payments from the Federal government. I used 6654 litres of propane to heat my house last year, costing me $669.39 in carbon tax (@$0.1006 per litre). I also purchased 2991 litres of gasoline for my car to drive about 30,000KM, costing me $428.13 in carbon tax (@$0.1431 per litre). This has resulted in a direct fiscal net loss to me of $408.77 in 2023 in excess carbon tax paid vs. rebates received.
In my opinion, the report by the Parliamentary Budget Officer that estimates economic impacts on Canadians of the carbon tax has greatly understated these costs. And the constant statements made by the government that 8 out of 10 Canadians are getting back more in rebates than is paid in carbon tax is completely laughable.
Wait, you expect to drive 30,000km in a single year and you want more incentives to do so? The CAIP is designed to offset, not cover, your costs. You drove so much that you're not able to offset your costs. The average annual VKT just so you know is around 16,000 so you drove a gas powered vehicle twice as much as the average person, hence the net loss.
