  • What an epic day in the lakes meeting new riding buddies. some exploring and a finish on the epic nan bield descent. I didn't film nan bield as the weather changed, but i have it on film from a previous run if you want a look at it. the tech descents we did on the ridge from garburn pass were epic, especially the one off ill bell, you would not want to crash off the edge of that, big old cliffs to the right. Hope the gent that needed the air ambulance was ok!

      @@tommychype yeah i've done that stuff, apparently it's been felled atm though and some of the tracks are knackered. yeah man that sounds good, if you fancy a guide over some fells in the lakes i'd be happy to do that, need some decent weather for it though, it's another world up there.

    good route, done it a few times myself as its fairly local to me. not done the descent to haweswater though, i turn right at the top of high street and go straight to the top of nan bield which is another bit of techy riding and worth doing if you haven't done it before. also dropping into the top of nan bield from the other side from harter fell is another really techy descent which i've never cleaned it, its doable but you need to pick the right options at various points. theres one bit coming down from ill bell i've always bottled it on as well, it doesn't help i've only ever ridden it on my own as i tend to be a bit more cautious when on my own in those sort of places.

    • @RideBikes_Walkplaces
      @RideBikes_Walkplaces  Před 5 lety

      I've done the harter fell one, not done the one from this side. That was one of the options, we were going to do that then man nan bield, then up to harter fell then down nan bield. We opted for this route as it was less tech and i hadn't explored that kidsty pike before. So much good riding up there, i want to explore the descents off that fell by hartsop and link it in with the first part of this.

      Tbh i don't think so. All the walkers were lovely and amazed we were even riding there. I don't get this beef between walkers and bikers, i hardly ever have somebody have a go in real life. Everyone i see is just happy to be outside! I'm a walker myself also.

      Sorry dude. Get ya maps out. Start in kentmere, do garburn up to the left side of the kentmere horseshoe then ride along to high street, kidsty pike then to haweswater reservoir and back over nan bield pass. Make sure you check my nan bield video, that's the last descent on this ride i didn't film. Nearly 6000ft of climbing and 26 miles.

      @JMJC1 Před 5 lety +1

      @@RideBikes_Walkplaces cheers, need to do an epic lakes ride sometime but don't know if I can manage 26 miles! I suppose 13 will be downhill though!?

    • @RideBikes_Walkplaces
      @RideBikes_Walkplaces  Před 5 lety

      @@JMJC1 not always, it depends on the route and whether you hike up steep and descend gentle or visa versa. The long descents are fairly physical if you're not used to them. You also need to take into account how much gear you need. I have tools, 2x tubes, tyre plugs, gear cable, 2 litres of water, food, jackets, armour, full face, super gravity tyres to reduce punctures etc. Ends up weighing a lot but you're out in the sticks and its a long walk back.

    • @JMJC1
      @JMJC1 Před 5 lety +1

      @@RideBikes_Walkplaces of course, didn't think of it like that, thanks.

    • @RideBikes_Walkplaces
      @RideBikes_Walkplaces  Před 5 lety

      @@JMJC1 no problem buddy, don't let that put you off though, theres lots of smaller rides to do that stay close to civilisation. My Fairfield vidoe is a good one to start on and an epic descent. Park in grasmere and head up to grisdale tarn then up to Fairfield peak. If you watch my video lake district best descent you can see the route from there. The Fairfield heron pike is the other descent we did the same day.
