      Some patents like that are still around. In the PS3/360/Wii console generation a company (I believe Capcom) had a patent on minigames on loading screens, so very few if any games during that time had them.

      I played (and 100%'d) the SM64 PC port with just mouse and keyboard because I didn't have a controller to hook up to my PC. It was pretty fun; the only annoying part was having to remember exactly which key did what.

    The players guide for Mario 64 has some interesting kid bits in it. Such as claiming that the player CAN defeat the mad piano in Big Boos Haunt, and that in Dire Dire Docks there is a "Dreaded Unagi waiting to pull mario to his doom."

      The Luigi stuff is a bit over hyped at the moment. My understanding is he was found in early beta stuff, and no where on the code for the actual final product. Otherwise he would have been data mined ages ago
