Arsenal's captain tried for several seasons to make it into Real Madrid's starting eleven, but always ended up being loaned out. When he finally got loaned out to Arsenal, he fell in love with the Premier League - and Arsenal fell in love with him! So much that they bought him away from Real Madrid the following summer. And what a signing the Norwegian has been for The Gunners!
He might be the hottest candidate for Player Of The Season award after his performances. Who do you think deserves to win this season?

We Arsenal fans know how lucky we are to have Martin. He is such a fucking clss act on and off the pitch. The squad we have right now is effin' insane...
AFC
The future sure looks bright!
If we win the league this season, Odegaard is & will always be an Arsenal legend in my books.
As a Dane, I'm so glad to see Norway hopefully assemble a strong team with Ødegaard and Håland (and Jens Petter Hauge).
As a fan of Real Madrid, (and Liverpool) I'm still bummed Martin didn't break through at Real Madrid - he deserved more chances after how well he did at Sociedad.
As a fjeldabe, I appreciate that my keyboard looks the same as yours, so you don't fuck up their names!
Hauge has stagnated unfortunately and doesn't really belong on that list (unless he can turn things around), young Andreas Schjelderup might be good enough though.
@@larsivar8772 Damn. I really liked him at Milan, but I felt he didn’t get many chances after a couple of dull games. I thought he’d turn it around after last season with Frankfurt, but I can see he only scored 3 in 37 games and is now on loan at Gent :-/
@@Savignylol “Fjeldabe”, ffs 😂🤪
Little Norway delivers world-class athletes in many disciplines, Haaland and Ødegaard are two good examples.
Our beachvolleyball team has also won every tournement possible.
The olympics
World championship
European championship
Many world tours
And they are only aged 27 and 26 i think!
He’s gotta be up there for player of the year 🎉
Prophesy, aged well
For what, winning fcuk all again looool
@@gavinhansford he would win ya girls number sit down lad.
@@Trac3r. I doubt it as she's from Madrid so he'll never be good enough for her.
Off ya fcuk then
With haaland keep breaking record,i’m afraid it’s impossible
He made me become interested in Arsenal.
Zidane and Ancelotti doesn't want to give the youngster chance while Arteta risked his job by deploying young squad.
And he still hasn't won nothing looool
It’s what they do just buy everything in sight and if they don’t get a chance who cares it’s a poor way to be really
@@Trac3r. And win la liga and ucl double last year lol
What did Arsenal win?
@@gavinhansford are you high? What I was talking about is their transfer policy 🤣 what tf are you on got 🧂 in 🫵🤩. And in case you FORGOT Arteta is on a trophy 🏆 already and he might just be about to take a prem easily worth 15 la ligaa 💯💯💯🤣🤣🤣🤣🫵🧂
@@gavinhansford Arteta has been a manager for what, 3 years? Ancelotti and Zidane took over already worldclass squads, Arsenal was a sinking ship when Arteta came in. Your knowledge of football must be 0
MA knows exactly what he wants, and Martin is the blueprint of that, talented, ambitious, skilful plus humble!
He seems like a great person as well 👍
He's the perfect player for all of us who Loved Césc Fabregas. It was awhile in coming, but this guy has the same type of vision and may be a better goal scorer than Césc. We are lucky to call him a Gunner. COYG!!!⚽️
Well said 👏
I honestly love watching him play. It's been a while since messi that I've liked watching a player play.
Odegaard is a perfect example of why you should not give up in life
Spot on!
@@gavinhansford you baited me, good. Go troll somewhere else. It may seem to surprise you but you’re boring
@@BHKG8818 What's "trolling" actually mean and what does it feel like to be trolled?
@@gavinhansford I don’t really have the time or the crayons to explain it to you. But it’s really very cute of you when you try to talk about things you don’t understand. Can you go play somewhere else?
When he was on loan at arsenal, he is good.. but he's getting better and better now. Without him and partey we might struggle in midfield
not might we will thankfully odergaard is not as injury prone but partey is always a worry
You're right!
Odegaard was highly rated in Real Madrid. But no way you can start over Kroos and Modric in 2020. He didn’t wait, unlike Benzema
You're right! Although, Benzema always played while CR7 had the spotlight on him and could develop meanwhile. But Ødegaard didn't play and struggled to develop further. The transfer worked out nicely for him 😊
@@EnglandFootballReview2022 yeah, and Huguain was actually preferred over Benzema. Benzema could have left, but he was patient , waited for the chance .
Some just aren't born to wait around and let their talent get wasted. "If you don't value me, why the hell should I care" mentality is a winners mentality. Betting on yourself is just proof of confidence in own abilities.
@@train_xcI forgot how good higuian was
@@WhoGivesAFucCk Every youngster believes they deserved more play time.....
And that's fine, but in this case is out of lack of something, not the other way around. He doesn't believe enough in himself to compete against Modric and Kroos.
And that's fine too, he's not that good too.
This is why Arteta won't go to Madrid, young talent simply isn't given time, at Madrid its just 'you have to win the next match or else'. Both Arteta and Odergard are the right place to shine.
It's certainly working out for Arsenal 👍
Arteta won't go to Madrid because he doesn't have a PSV licence to drive their coach loool
instead, I can see Arteta getting a call up from Barcelona or Real Sociedad.
@@HenSt-gz7qj Don't see Arteta leaving Arsenal for Real Sociedad. Barcelona maby.
@@gavinhansford bruh how old are you, are you that sad that you find joy by trolling in youtube comments, go and troll in a game or smth jesus christ.
Good old “Mike” Arteta from Romford 😂😂😂
Part of the problem with his stint in Madrid, was that he never got to build chemistry with the team. He'd train with first team, but play matches for Castilla. His first loan spells in the Netherlands, he started slow and build momentum with the chemistry he build with the team with more time spent there. His best loan spell, Real Sociedad, he started a lot stronger because for the first time, he arrived with the team in pre season, instead of after it started. He'd done a lot better in the previous loans as well if he'd arrived pre season to build chemistry before the league started.
Him doing such a good job in Arsenal now all comes down to this - he's had stability and oportunity to build proper chemistry, so now he performs as we all expected him to do when he left for Real Madrid. I've no doubt that if he got enough time to buiild chemistry there, he'd be starting for RM as well by now.
I love odegaard and saka
I wasnt initially impressed with him, as he was slow and was not direct like fabregas or Ozil, but I have now come to understand and appreciate him very much. He is the Ice cold creative leader, and he is soo focused and understands the game very well. He is the leader and the engine that makes the whole team tick in attack. I hope he stays forever at Arsenal and become a legend!.
i can tell you now they would pay us 100mil for him now and that not enough. they have an aging modric he would of been the perfect replacement . So thanks again Real Madrid you just gave us a wonderful talent :)
Agreed 👍
Probably Real Madrid won’t go for him, they had a good midfield with Camavinga, tchoumeni, Valverde and Ceballos
@@train_xc There is a difference between good and great. Real made their own bed.
@@train_xcI mean you can be true but Odegaard was a good deal for Madrid and they messed up
Excellent video. This channel has potential
Appriciate it! If there's any PL topic you want us to cover, please let us know!
He wasnt a Real Madrid reject. They didnt get rid of him. He decided himself to leave (as you even say in the video) and he wanted to play in a team that would use him to his strength and somewhere he would play regurarly and a place where he could be permanently without being loaned out.
A coup! COYG ❤❤❤
Funny, last time an Arsenal player was named player of the month was the same month Odegaard was named player of the month in la liga.
The odegod effect..
OdeGod My Captin
well, Madrid's midfield at the time were star-studded, no way an inexperienced youngster would play over prime Modric and Kroos. it's just like De Bruyne's situation at Chelsea back in 2012
I don't think even today real would consider him. Although he turns out to be very crucial player for arsenal this season but real is not like other club, only players above class are played there and due to that some promising players tend to succumb...
They almost ruined him with that 80k a week contract at 16 years old 🤦🏽♂️
I think most Norwegians who followed him closely back then thought he was about to choose Ajax 🤷♂️
he almost ruined himself with a poor choice
@@hotdog9262 Ødegaards story is why Haaland took the choices he did. He went to a smaller league first and built up to the top.
@@lt.axesci5644 with the history real have for young talent, it was quite incredible how deluded odegaard/his grp were ..going to real out of norway at 16. its not like he is world class player either. remember I was dumbfounded at the time
@@hotdog9262 I am almost certain he would have had a better progression if he had chosen a smaller league and club. Likely a club in Eredivisie would have been a good choice, especially considering how well he did on loan there. I think alot of people were somewhat frustrated with the choice, including myself, but Real was probably hard to pass on, which I understand, but still clearly the wrong choice. Hindsight is always 20-20 thoXD
I love his game , it's insane 😍 ❤....Gunners Forever ⚽️ 💘 🇯🇲
He reminds me of Iniesta at Barcelona.
This is the ideal career path. You need to spend a few years humbled on a journeyman's path. The best thing that could have happened to Odegard is to sit the bench for a few years at RM.
At Madrid it is more than just football... we knew Ødegaard was an extremely talented player but to become a Champions League winning best 11 player there is a unique mental barrier to overcome - displacing a legend that is already there. In his case it was multiple CL winning Modric. It is not just about knowing you can do it... at RM you have to bide your time and slowly convince the establishment (coach, team, club and fans). Good examples are Vini Jnr, Rodrygo and Fede Valverde - from later stock than Ødegaard ... their game has developed since young to be a custom fit for Madrid. A custom fit Odegaard at Real Madrid would have been frightening - much, much more than what he is showing today. He also could have shown a bit more patience since he had time on his side. Admittedly, the pandemic and the need to make a quick sale influenced Madrid to sell - maybe it was a hasty decision... if Ødegaard needed a bit more softer development path it might have made sense for Madrid to allow it for a few more years because he is special. In the end it was not to be... the 3 young guns I mentioned earlier overcame that mental barrier and were critical in last year's Champions League win. They now know the secrets to succeeding at Madrid. Maybe there still is time for Ødegaard... if Arteta is poached as manager. He is still one of the players I follow though... because I like football and am happy to see him play anywhere. All the best.
If antony is worth 100 million, odegaard is at least 320 million
But can Odegaard mimic a fidget spinner? Didnt think so.....
@@Yourmomazz 😂😂😂
Real Madrid don't play a 10 in their squad. That's why he didn't get regular playtime. Just look what happened to other 10s who played for RM before him and the fact that Kroos and Modric were the players he was competing for playtime is just too much for players, let alone a rising star. I hoped that he stayed at RM and did something to earn his position in the team. Anyways, I hope that Real Madrid changes its strategy towards young players and gives them more gametime in the future since they have the likes of Sergio Arribas, Mario Martin, Alvaro Rodriguez and Iker Bravo breaking through to the first team from RM Castilla.
Odegaard was never a reject at Madrid
new Bergkamp
Is this video AI generated?
Only Odegaard?Not Zinchenko?
Yup I remember seeing the day and reading He did want arsenal but Real Madrid like always prob didn’t really know him came in with a gazonking bid and I thought that was that…! Completely let him out my mind at that point and then the loan and I couldn’t believe he fell in love with us properly this is 100% true to events so this is why we got Odegaard the baller he is an Arsenal and Madrid fan 🎉. No this report says he just said find me a club no he knew where he wanted to play we were linked with him before he went to Madrid 😂 💯🤦♂️. I live here lol I’m telling you bro I’m down the Rd from the Emirates I’m actually close to a few premier league clubs we know what news not to believe during transfer time but we can safely say he was talking to us before Madrid but he chose them first. We wasn’t quite the calibre we are this time around of obtaining him to be honest it may have been too early to sign him first before Madrid
As we are close to Martin's camp, we can assure that there was a lot of clubs that were in the race for him in 2014 😊
@@EnglandFootballReview2022 tongue in cheek I say a lot of those points course Real Madrid knew him yes he was getting a lot of praise for his performances and maturity to the game the mental mind for technical football which led Madrid to him and others I do agree.
undoubtful really is a word. wow what a horrible word.
Come on!
It is not the same to perform in a mid tier team like Arsenal.....Real Madrid is the most difficult team to perform in the world even the "best" EPL player of the year Hazard is struggling to even be on the bench.
If someone is wrong for putting trust in someone, is Real Madrid scout team for believing Odegaard was Real material....
Look Vinicius and Camavinga, that's Real material, Odegaard is Arsenal material, just like that.
The transfer price is low because rm thinks his potential is not high
How wrong were they lol
i can tell you now they would pay us 100mil for him now and that not enough. they have an aging modric he would of been the perfect replacement . So thanks again Real Madrid you just gave us a wonderful talent :)
A Norweian shame.

What are you talking about? Real madrid are serial winners, Odegaard was not good enough, he is not what they want from a midfielder. They sold ozil at 24 years old, they never wanted another
Are you trying to compare OdeGod to Ozil🤦♂
Odergard walks into that Real Madrid side
@@BadBoyV1 Odegaard was never good enough for Madrid the whole time he was there, even out on loan he wasn’t Madrid level, only now is he close.
Sorry, there’s not a reality where Odegaard keeps out the 5x ECL winning duo of Modric and Kroos, he’d be wasted on the subs bench.
@@BadBoyV1 you obvious dont watch football
@@jimsim8736 exactly, thats the reason he came arsenal, cuz he was not getting any game
Madrid sold Odegaard and bought touchameni and kamavinga, they both play CM like kroos n modric, non play like odegaard, NON, they dont want a ozil type midfielder
He isn't going back to Real Madrid. He's at one of the biggest clubs in the world and thriving!
How many champions leagues has he won so far you so blind real madrid is ever looking to winning champions league trophies
Please dont say non English words in a ridiculous over exaggerated foreign accent. It's like nails on a chalk board.
Shut up he's not going anywhere lmaooo
Let be honest here Im an Arsenal fam bur he s not good enough to be a core player to Real Madrid.
If he would have gone to Barcelona he would have ended like Coutinho flopped . Im happy he did not went to Barcelona
Ok.. I guess you must know.
barcelona would have been a much better choice
Odegaard could not stand the pression in Real,
madrid is bigger than arsenal great players for arsenal are not necessarily great for madrid
All he's proved is the PL is not as good technically as La Liga
Its pronounced ur de gard and he walks on water ..... now.
Thats wrong, i'm norwegian, and you are telling a Lie. We do NOT pronounce it UR de gard.
Disagree, saka is leading us not martin
Well yes, his national team is not as strong as Arsenal or other clubs that he played before, it's not his fault if he doesn't perform well
As a skeptic, i dont know who surpriced me the most this season. Xhaka, or Odegaard. Probably Xhaka, since i had totally written him off. What a transformation.. I whent from screaming at the TV on how bad Xhaka was performing, to now wanting him to play every game, because he brings so much to the team. Probably because Arteta made him play in a different role. More attacking focused, less reliant upon him defensively. Wich he was really bad at. Fantastic comeback story.
I was very cautiously optimistic about Odegaard aswell. I knew his talent, but as a norwegian i never felt he dared enough, played it to safe, was to cautious, with little to no impact. Oh boy, how Arteta made some changes there aswell. Completelly different player. He play with confidence.. The quality of that midfield just rises immencely when he play. So obvious against Sporting, when he came on for Vieira.
Arsenal is closing in on a team with a backbone consisting of 11 players. Thats rare. Thats title winning stuff. Normally a team consist of 2-5 players thats concidered the backbone. Arsenal has 9-11 now.
