Oh Man This is gunna be a goood watch
Hell yes. like like looking at an art piece and raw power. Like a Japanese style v8, but much spicier.
gonna be ignent
I’m glad daddy Dan loves rob!
Oh no it’s the schizo 😭😭
Aye bro, youtube is doing you dirty… I haven’t seen one of your videos pop up in my recommended feed since you bought that ambulance..
joel is such an important member of your team. he films everything, and at the same time pays attention to everything an picks up mistakes.. all while fliming...great work dude
That and he asks questions or makes observations about stuff that a normal person not really deeply knowledgeable about this stuff would ask which helps people like me.
Joel is the man !❤
Press F to pay respect for the snap-on socket.
F
I was only thinking that exact thing; when Joel mentioned about tightening the bolts via the holes in the gears by slightly turning the motor over, and Rob unsure what they were going to do? Joel was actually a step ahead everyone.....he was already thinking about how to solve that problem before they got to it! 👍
I kinda think this way when ever I'm working with someone even working on something I'm not an expert at? What I mean is, that Joel has a very good spatial memory and he can visualise everything in 3 dimensions to solve things?
Where other people might rely (not saying Rob here I'm generalising) calculations, Joel is picturing everything inside the mind 😉
So taking this all the way back to Joel's beginning, I have to hand it to Rob for hiring a media and camera guy that goes above and beyond his job!
Now think about how many other CZcamsrs are out there and all of their media/camera guys?
What are the chances of getting someone like Joel? He's literally a 1 in a million..... So that comes down to Rob's discernment during interviewing👌 and that's something I struggle with?
So I'm going to say congratulations right here and now and we haven't even heard it run yet, but after watching this video and everyone working together....I have confidence that this is going to all turn out great! 👌
Oh one last thing, congratulation to Tyson on the entire construction of the 12 rotar because he did what 3-4 people did today having had no or minimal rotary experience prior! That's just kind boggling to consider...... And fuck me dead the precision of the E-shafts is just perfection 😲
Can't wait to hear first start!
Yeah, but never picked Dahms oil hand though..
I am not an engineer or an engine builder I am a Machinist. This engine that Tyson and his team created is an absolute masterpiece. I have watched all of these videos from beginning to end, I have been extremely fascinated not only with your knowledge but the inner workings of such a unicorn. You should create a TED talk about this rebuild once everything is said and done.
When you build up and tear down a motor hundreds of times... It's amazing how you slowly become a master of said engine type! Your knowledge of the Rotary has become outstanding! ....Legend in the making we see here. Pretty cool!
Man. I've been a machinist nearly 30 years and this is an absolute marvel. Can't wait to hear it!!!
the mix of our 2 worlds weve always thought of as were makin parts lol.
you'll never hear it. that dude is just a youtube grifter doing it for "the content".
@@Q-nt-Tfclearly don’t know rob then.
@@Q-nt-Tfget tf out of here , you saw the engine was spinning really smoothly , that means that it will work .
@@Q-nt-Tfokay just wait and see bruhh😏😏
The attention to detail is INSANE. Props to Rob for that, AND for finding the issues that most people would have missed. Damn, you are good!
Dahm*
@@austinfleck8664 Thank you for your service
That level of detail is necessary for such an enthusiast level of perfection for an engine like this. He knows what he's doing and we need good technicians like that.
Where’s the 12 rotor dahm? 😂
Just put the dahm thing together already this was 7 months ago and I bet he still don't have it built yet
Watched the whole thing, I can’t wait to see this thing run again. Also if im torquing a ton of bolts in a few different sequences, I like to use different paint color sticks to make a witness mark after I torque each one.
Thank you very much for always staying consistent with the content you produce. Everyone gets big and then goes mainstream content only.
Just wanted to leave this comment as a thanks for being the guy that has and will continue to explain everything in a light but serious manner as well.
Keep doing great things and I can’t wait to hear the 12 rotor start up!!
Have a great day, get some rest. You all definitely need it after building this beauty of an engine.
God I love Rob Dahm content, literally wait for it daily, and am more excited for it than any other content.
I do the same thing, Rob’s content is quite amazing. I always try to learn more and more from rob, hopefully I’ll build a rotary soon and will definitely be following Rob’s recommendations
@estebanmata1251 I'm not planning on ever building one but I watch with the same fascination!
Same.. I do like Alex at legit street cars too.
The is literally the only hour and a half long engine build video I would ever watch
Same, this is literally one of the very few channels I have the notis bell on for. It would be cool if he started premiering videos so we could sit and wait while hyped for new vids lol
Rule of thumb with O-rings is if what ever your sealing has pressure in it the O-ring fits tight to the out side if it has a vacuum the O-ring fits tight to the inside. That way the O-ring can't move and deform.
That's with the pressure/vacuum on the inside, with pressure/vacuum on the outside it's reversed. ;)
@@DaftFaderthats the same as inside-out vs outside-in
@@dylanzrim3635 It's actually a really important distinction depending on where there is pressure and where there is vacume specifically and if you are trying to keep pressure in or out, or vacume in or out.
That is if you don't want your O rings to collapse when you're trying to keep oil pressure from the open oil pockets behind the steels from getting into your coolant line because you put the O rings on the outside of your coolant seal groove because "pressure = seals on outside" when the pressure isn't coming from inside the line pushing out, it's coming from outside pushing inwards and would crush the seals if put on the outside of the groove as OP sugests, getting oil into the coolant lines. Think about it in the actual application in this engine. 😉
The even better rule of thumb with o-rings is just do exactly what the Parker o-ring manual/bible says.
@@BearAerospace and dont forget to check McMaster-Carr if you need to order orings with specific dimensions and materials. Was a god send back in my paintballing days
I work on cars all day. It nice to watch somebody work on an engine. That actually knows what they're doing. Great job, bro! It's the little things like hand sanding apex seals that shows the great workmanship you have👏👍
Definetely saw something epic like this coming from you over the years. Your engineering knowledge has always taken me back, not many brains out there like this 🤙
I watched the whole thing.
Was like reading a bible.
Rob I've been watching your videos since about 2014 and I gotta say you have an incredible way of steadily increasing your entertainment value without adding stupid gimmicks. I love how you're constantly learning more and pushing boundaries in the rotary space and bringing the viewers along with you. As an engineer I really appreciate all the technical details in these videos and I love watching the progression of your knowledge and expertise of rotary engines!!
Same thoughts, couldn't have said it better
I don't know what is more amazing, that fact that someone figured out how to make a motor like this or the fact you (Rob) can figure out how to rebuild it and make it better !!!!!!!
OMG! Only just discovered you had this masterpiece Rob, and CANNOT wait to see more this journey with you guys! AWESOME!👍👍
What a beautiful piece of art.. no reason why this couldn't be in any museum on the planet.. just gorgeous 🥰🤩🎉❤
I love that Isaiah started doing fab work and now he's basically a pro at assembling rotary engines.
resourceful people diversify based on need rather than a certificate... this is what i learnt living on the shop floor means
I've never experienced a video an hour and twenty minutes long feel like 15 mins. I want more
true
better than 95% percent of modern movies...im on the edge of my seat waiting for this project to have another video come out
i swear it was only 20 mins. not till i saw this comment did i realize. wow
Legit, I thought wow so long, I won't Watch all of it, but found myself wishing it wouldn't end
You got balls , this is a level of challenge I'd never attempt to do with any project, that's a one of a kind project , and your willingness to attack it isn't something to take lightly
This is the kind of thing that reminds me that, as human beings, the stuff we are capable of is
By the way, it looks absolutely incredible, can't wait to see it fired up😊😊😊😊😊😊😊000😊ⁿ⁰
At this point, yeah it's ambitious but let's be honest it's about money more than balls
This was so satisfying to watch! Rob would say something and I'd internally agree even if I had no idea. If he says so, then yes, ha-ha! He's the rotary engine expert!
Rob, you are an absolute animal! Great work by you and your team. This was by far the coolest automotive feat done on CZcams in perhaps forever, and it makes me so happy to see you pushing yourself and the industry.
You could make a convoluted exhaust system to make it sound like every rotor is firing at a different time, would be kind of difficult but I'm confident tig daddy could make it in two afternoons and 17 red bulls lmao
Man, that would sound absolutely insane, I'm with you, they should do that...
I understand that this thing has gobs of power but an unequal length header like that would be pointless, this thing is supposed to be top tier, the best a rotary could ever be. it needs equal length headers.
Even without that, double 18 combustions per full revolution is going to be absolutely insane no matter what plumbing he puts on the exhaust flow side. I love this whole project.
It'd be a shame not to make the exhaust sound as sick as possible
At 1500 rpm that's 18'000 firings per minute, which is 300 firings per second. You wouldn't hear each exhaust note firing individually.
this video is just sooooo dense, and everything is interesting. you have a great tallent in explaining!
You talking and explaining everything made this video so perfect. Very interesting even for me know nothing about rotary.
What task to do, what a quality show to watch!!!
Thank you!
At 1:02:22 I hope you noticed that piece of sleeve(or whatever it is in english...) before crushing it...
Again, thank all of you guys for having us along!
The crooked dowel pin?
Ouch!
I dont think it would have gone down if they haven't re-placed it, but it looked really scary 😮
You can see in the last frames that the guy on the left notices it and Rob bends over to look at it
Watched it in 0.25x, saw it clearly now
Hey Rob we can really tell you invest back into your channel by doing absolutely mental stuff like this. Thank you
Incredible work taking on this engine..... I hope you can get it running sweetly 😊
What an incredible video. With so much more going on behind the scenes, this was really well presented. Heading to your channel, really hoping there's a part 2 or more . . . would really like to hear how this sounds.
My only regret about seeing this now is I know i'm gonna have to wait A WHILE to see them finally start this thing up
Thanks! Almost watched it but read the comments first and you confirmed my suspicions 😂
@@MazdaMotion😅?已弓 9:38 柜屬
When's that happening then? :O
You know there’s a video of this thing running?
@@bullhead360im sorry where in the hell is that video?
Rob is a madman as usual. This is some seriously beautiful work. Almost halfway in and i'm so so excited for this. 12 rotors, come on, this can't be real.
Hey man, it's real. You most assuredly watched the video. Yes, I know why you typed that. It's quite difficult to believe that there's a twelve rotor rotary engine and that Robert Dahm is actually building it. It's quite amazing how much dedication he has for rotary engines. He possibly has as much knowledge as rotary engine engineers do.
The firing order along is a thing of beauty, having done stress analysis of rotary’s, forces acting in that thing will be insane
Yes, it's a torque monster. There's no doubt in my mind about that. As you know, it's the first and only twelve rotor rotary engine. Do any of you who read this know how much twist it will produce?
Let's take some hats off to the guys that MADE it 1st and it's like this was meant to be, because with robs mad scientists type love for rotary it is just great, that we get to witness rob build it, shout out to you rob and the team, this is going to be something very special 👍🏼🙏
Very satisfying seeing something like this come together. Very exciting seeing it come together. Cnt wait for the next vid. Keep it up guys💯👍
it's so crazy and fabulous, well done for getting into it, can't wait to hear the engine roar!!
and to see it in a rolling chassis, it could win speed records with a good, very long gearbox
I've always been more of a rods & pistons kinda guy, but that 12 rotor is mighty impressive. I hope it performs as good as it looks.
BTW, I thought timing a DOHC engine was a pain in the ass. I can't complain about that now, lol.
Same here! I play w/ Caddy 472/500's.
I'll never complain about building a Barra motor again 😂
Right? I was wondering how they are going to time this thing, is it going to have 3 coils, and 3 distributors? This engine is wild!
@@wesman7837
I haven't seen a distributor since the 90s.
@@wesman7837it will have 24 ignition coils.
This is such a good watch. You can tell that Rob is LOVING the puzzle of the 12 rotor. I can't wait to see it fire up and hear it and all the learning that will come from trying to get it running good, both in tune and actual component health. Good luck, Rob. You got this!
all i can say is , Holy crap! you all are bad asses..The hell is this motor going in? The amount of prep time and expertise is absolutely lovely. Bravo Dahm. Killer man.
I've never seen the guts of a rotary engine. This beast is a feat of machining. OMG!!
The amount of springs and seals along with the complexity of this high rpm crazy engine is mind boggling.
Great video. Can't wait to see this monster run . I've driven a rotary car before. It blew my mind .
Good luck guys.💪💪💪🙏🙏
I am completely in awe of this, the attention to detail and the explanations are amazing. Thank you Rob for sharing this piece of automotive history with the world you are a top shelf guy
fast boat history ....
I found you from the first 12 rotor video and have since watched your entire journey. Absolutely loving this now
!! NEAT HUh !!?? !!
Videos like this expose how little I know about cars/building engines lol. The thought process alone for the Eshaft setup just blows me away.
Been waiting for this! Too many of my own projects taking my time. Amazing!
His machining work on those splines ( and everything else) is so impressive!
Rob Dahm is the only guy who can have me watch a whole hour and a half video😂
it doesnt even feel like its one and a half hour
He had me well hooked until the Hair Loss promotion! Good night.
Dunno man, The Car Care Nut is right up there for me.
I love it....really fine team of mechanics doing excellent engine assembly...I like how they adapt the seals with loctite......very interesting
Ethan designing the manifolds! Very cool. Triple turbo's will be impressive.
This was worth the wait. Boy, what a mammoth task.
Full respect to the team.
I was just saying to myself yesterday, "It's about time for another Rob Dahm video." Vicariously living my dreams through these videos, keep up the great work Rob!
Props to whoever edited this, you did a great job
Wow Rob. You and the guys knocked this out of the park. So much information learned. I cant wait to hear it scream at 9k rpms.
Rob, is the gear spline also 60 teeth? If not, then you have a certain grandularity of adjustment.
For example if it had a 60 tooth gear and a 60 tooth spline, then yes you would only be able to clock it by 6 degree increments. However, if it has a 60 tooth gear and a 40 tooth spline, you can clock it by 0.15 degree increments by changing tooth position of both the gear and the spline.
The best combination would be a 60 tooth gear with a 59 tooth spline. That way you can clock it by 0.1017 degree increments.
Yeah, it looked like he was so focused on making the holes line up at TDC on every rotor instead of taking into consideration the fact that with two different spline counts, you have a LOT of adjustment in the gear timing by not caring about the overall position of cosmetic details like those holes. I learned that a LONG time ago that you could do that with gears. Instead of rotating the object you want properly timed and pushing it out of time, you keep rotating the gear till the teeth properly line up with your desired timing.
I’m not even 12 minutes into this monster of a video but I’m already so hooked. You are easily one of my favorite if not my favorite CZcamsrs because you explain everything you do. And do things that are just mind boggling. You are a real motivator keep it up Rob.
So much good work on it ! Keep going guy’s
You're killin us here!....let's go with the 12 rotor already! Your channel is on the short list for favourites but damn, the waiting is driving me mad!
You started turning the un oiled bearings and it started bellowing like the beast of an engine it is. Truly a masterpiece, thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge with us 😂
This is literally insane, you guys are amazing for going through this entire motor and making sure everything is dahm near perfect.
With dead 💀 blow hammers 🔨 and 3 foot long cheater bars!
@@tanyav7888that is how you assembly every single engine , even Steve Morris that has 40 years doing it , do it .
insane doesn't even begin to cover this build! so looking forward to the next step!
At this point in time it is just a fine piece of art about mechanics. Can't wait to see it running
Couple things, have you guys ever thought of investing in an ultrasonic cleaner? I feel like it would be so handy for those small seals and springs. Also, you can't just tease us with that engine like that!
they really are not that expensive either
@@nickkuhlmam1336 Nope they are fairly cheap even for an industrial sized one he'd need for doing parts but it would help clean up those parts and get rid of all that carbon build up from the oil burning and oil on/in them
Next thing you know Rob is going to make his own one fixing the issues this one has 😂
I mean he DID kinda say that's the plan
Awesome video content and hell of a project. Can’t wait to see that engine fired up.
I've watched you for a while. It's pretty cool you've become an expert on this stuff.
This is a massive engineering challenge, props to you for doing it!
First time ever watching a rotor engine being assembled, and it's the only 12 rotor in the world. Epic.
There’s a few other actually or used to be a few years ago, you can find some videos. Nonetheless a stunning project !
I love your mind on this. I'm an engineer with software and I think the same way. Thinking of the entire problem like a "tree" in my head. Very impressive!
Can't wait to see what vehicle you put this into and how it sounds and preforms
Shop Class with Prof. Rob. Always exciting when he is pushing the boundaries.
You gotta be by far one of the most dedicated person ive seen ever. This is a breathtaking project and i cant wait to see it run!!!
what a beautiful video and this man has so much knowledge his team that aircraft hanger has stollen my soul i love you guys best youtube video ever very amazing project ...i want more
What a project, I started watching this video in my lunch break, and one hour twenty-four minutes later I still had my sandwich in my hand. That's the coolest thing I heard of, thtank you.
The ability to understand and retain the unbelievable amount of math and geometry that make this whole thing work is just astonishing
1:11:24 The montage was so quiet, you could sense the tension and focus, no unnecessary music, perfect
2 million views shows how much we love rotary and respect you. I have a question that haunts me. Why doesn’t anyone make a larger displacement rotor? We are locked into the Mazda sized rotor for everything. Why not make a rotor with more displacement? I have a feeling you may know.😊
Soo much enthusiasm in this workshop 🙌 👏
"This will be a very compact video"......1hr24mins later........love you and the teams work Rob
Well, it's compact compared to the amount of work they put in. Wouldn't be surprised if this video contains 3 full days of work on that engine
Rob I must really thank you for making such videos, you help me think the right way. I don't have a rotary, just a normal 3 cyl 0.9 Brabus motor, but this helps me to think the right way. i would never thought to put the "glued" section where the intake is for it to be colder. How I said, your videos help to think the right way, because now i will be more aware of how I put also other things into my car.
That is awesome, cannot wait to see it assembled
This got my attention… HOLY SMOKES man!! This is awesome!!
ayo it sounds like you guys have upped your audio game even just within the assembling montages, which gets my so very excited to hear thins thing go brr. I know y'all will do the world a solid and get as much high quality audio of this thing as you can. Truly one of a kind opportunity I'm glad you have Joel and the rest of the team there to capture and share it with us all :)
I can't even begin to imagine the work put onto this video. From the actual build, editing, etc etc. Such a awesome work as always
That is a 100% badass engine. Ur 4 rotor was a beast. Can't wait to see what this one does
I can't wait to hear this thing.
This is pure insanity and i love it!❤
Just imagine this thing in an 787b, flying down the old Le Mans straight and screaming at 12.000rpm 😮
Mazda make this happen please.
85 minutes of rotary heaven ❤
I could see this thing having a NASTY Compound Turbo Setup.
Unbelievably, and amazingly impressive engineering mate. I don't know enough superlatives nor have the space to put them even if I did for the purposes of admiration based commendation to you blokes. I'm an Australian rotary nut and seeing your incredible achievement has me overjoyed to the point of rapture.
Big-ups 👍👍 to one and all, Felix Wankel and Mazda too for that matter would be utterly proud of you all I'm certain of that 😉👍👍
What an absolute monster, I'd argue this is way out of car league. More like a plane engine. Very excited to see it running and produce power, also excited about where this goes. I need to see an oversized custom car based on 7, literally something on sterodis. Good job Rob, taking on this project alone speaks volumes.
wankel rotary was a german bomber engine in ww2.. & decades before that.. they can rev but have fk all torque. a single rotor has same power as a 6 cyl. & fuel consumption.. here in aus, we accidently made the ''hot'', rotoary engine, brup,,brup,,brup,, . mate had an rx3, wore the seals out, pulled it apart, threw it in bin as couldnt get it back together, then he bought the same color lime green, torana slr 5000. both, laid rubber in 3 gears.. ausie.. [ torana lasted longer, cheaper.]
Incredible. Thank you for sharing the progress. You make nothing but masterpieces so I'm eager to see this being worked on further
The work done on it is such amazingly big
Like the simple explanation of the process. Top channel
This really goes to show you how much he is dedicated to to spread of information. A hour of engineering damn there.
Amazing ! Congrats on adjustments & re-assembly.
Proof humans can achieve anything we set our minds to.
In awe of the original design, machining and the realisation that your fresh set of eyes will hopefully steer this toward a successful modern tune.
Love to see you fuys fire it up.
Looks like a really heavy engine and way more complicated but cant wait to hear it!
I want this to happen so bad but I am so glad I'm not taking on the stress of the project...for that I commend you all on this channel for stepping up to the plate and taking such good care of it...this is history in the making
This thing is a work of art. It's in good hands with you guys. Can't wait to see and hear it turn over.
wow, that was mind-boggling! unbelievable! so impressive!
Pround of you man . . . And Tyson. Both of you whole heartedly embody the American Spirit.
You guys are walking in the foot steps of Edison Very exciting stuff . . . I'm 72 and just stoked !
I am sure Mazda is watching and wanting to learn something. Don't show them everything.
Let them watch how it's done and suffer.
Fingers crossed for y'all. BIG under taking especially documenting it all. Good luck team Dahm!
Rob I love that you have become the go to man for all things rotary ….it’s been amazing watching you become a true expert
Rob , I lap and when I do , I use a large thick piece of plate glass, and use a figure of eight motion, , but to final polish use a hard felt wheel with pumice powder and finally cerium.
