Safety Third is a weekly show hosted by William Osman, NileRed, The Backyard Scientist, Allen Pan, Peter Sripol, and a couple other CZcams "Scientists". Sometimes we have guests, sometimes it's just us, but always: safety is our number three priority.
This man last episode *LITERALLY SAID* “I’ve got a stomachache but it’s not anything like my Appendix rupturing or crap.” Then this happened. William, why.... thank god caretakers there.

My only experience with food poisoning was very ironic. When I was a young practicing Catholic, I was on a church trip and had completely forgotten that it was Good Friday (the first day of abstaining from meat) and I ordered a 4 pc nugget from McNasty’s. The irony was it felt as if I was smited by the lord directly.
Nigel's mug was a beaker... This man eats sleeps and breathes science.
He used to sell them, they are his branded beaker mugs😁😉
Beakers are the best, you can use them to boil the water then use them to drink the tea. 2 in one. They are also made from better materials than commercial glassware.
@@MaliohammadDesigns yeah they are great. But keep them out of your lab. A chemist mistaked his coffee one time when he drank out of beaker mug and that was the last mistake he made.
@@shy8054 Yeah understandable. I don't have a lab, and if I had I would never use one just because of the fear of mistaking my beaker with a contaminated one. Niels beaker has a handle tho, so less of a risk.

What happens if you eat expired instant noodles?
After reading several Japanese blogs on the brave souls who have tried (long) expired instant noodles, here are some of their thoughts and experiences...
After 0.5 year from expiration date
"The soup was bland”
"I couldn't tell the difference even though it was old"
"This ramen tastes bad”
After 1.5 years from expiration date
"I had an upset stomach”
“I found something strange floating in the soup”
“It tasted like cardboard”
“It did not taste like food"
After 2 years from expiration date
"It tasted sour"
"I went see a doctor because I felt like vomiting."
"Smelled really strange"
After 2.5 years from expiration date
"The oil tasted like it could be the oil for machiney"
"The noodles tasted really bad"
"My stomach hurts"

That was an allergic/anaphylactic reaction to one of the ingredients, for sure, not just intestinal issues due to old expired product.
This podcast is only in its second week and I already cannot wait for the next episode. These guys do such a great job keeping attention.

Explosions & Fire did a whole video on the different tastes of chloride salts of the Alkali metals (Li, K, Na, Rb & Cs) as well as Ca, Sr & Ammonium.
I'd be cool to also test all relatively non-toxic salts of Bicarbonate, Sulfate, Phosphate, etc.
The most surprising thing was that LiCl was the only one that wasn't gross. No one liked KCl despite it being used as a salt substitute.
Loving that this podcast exists. Can see it having all the science and engineering youtubers on it in the future. But you guys need to slow down a bit and let each other talk. It's probably just teething but it's minorly stressful

The appendix thing is exactly what I thought it was. I couldn't sleep either and I kinda thought I was constipated or something. So no more appendix for me. Enjoy the shoulder pain.

@@Incendium87 the way they explained it to me was something like; some air gets into you from the surgery and gravity makes it take it's way up into your shoulders where it settles until it disperses. Not something I've looked into, but I had it for a couple weeks after.

I have so many inherent health issues that I would never be able to tell if my appendix was fucked up. So many varying health symptoms plus drug side effects that I would never know it wasn't something I already had until it got so insanely bad that I could no longer move or walk.

I realized I wanted to be a scientist when I was four in a bathtub. I turned a cup upsidedown and stuck it underwater. I noticed the shiny air stuck in the cup still. Needless to say, my mind was blown.
Don't get discouraged and keep this up if you can. It's fun to see all of your more regular personalities and you guys seem to blend pretty well together.

i LOVE hearing nile talk about his life and goings about. im loved watching these two episods
I had appendicitis bothering me for over a week my parents were sure it was the flu. I was throwing up and in agonizing pain. I was in so much pain I hadn't slept in two days and they finally took me to the hospital. The hospital said my appendix which is supposed to be the size of the tip of your pinky was stretched all the way across my stomach and could explode at any second. They immediately took me in for emergency surgery. I actually passed out while they were taking x-rays. The only time I've ever passed out in my entire life.

As soon as you said your stomach hurt, I knew where it was going. When people mention stomach pain, it usually ends up being appendicitis. Welcome to the exclusive club of me, Ludwig Ahgren, and 250,000 other Americans who had appendectomies during COVID!
It's actually quite possible to have a leaky gut that allows proteins through which react with things badly inside.

I did all that same stuff. It was so great when I bought my first soldering iron and I realized I could actually make a good, solid connection between electrical components.

I don't know how to express how much I love Nigel, he is so sweet. Also I love this podcast and it's unscripted pandemonium
Yeah I had appendicitis when i was 12. It happened literally over night. In the morning It hurt so much I couldn't even walk. Went to the ER. has an emergency surgery, and apparently the appendix ruptured during surgery. If It happened before surgery, I wouldn't be alive today. So because of the rupture, they couldn't close the incision all the way in case it got infected. So it had to heal by itself (obviously they sutured the stomach wals, just not the skin above). Had to change bandages for 3 months everyday and clean the wound until it healed fully.
Also, I live in the Netherlands, so public healthcare paid for it all.

I worked at a Nissin Ramen plant in Lancaster PA as electrical maintenance for a while and lemme tell you. The Nissin ramen was definitely the cause of Niles sickness. That factory was soooo nasty. I opened a few electrical panels and found it full of old noodles and bugs🤢

7:20 the "right" way to eat a pack of Shinramyun: dunk in a handful of soybean sprouts together when you drop the noodle in the boiling water, and then insist your end-of-the-month ramen diet is *healthy* because it had vegetables in it and you ate it with kimchi. It's a logical solution which is just as water-tight as your bowel next day.
Honestly, this is the only podcast ill be watching without skipping
