Still waiting for the update. Did it ever work?
I love that you went ahead and publish this video even if your experiment did not work. Good on you bro.
Gotta show the good with the bad lol.
@@AutoAuctionRebuilds I don't mind the bad, but update your description message or pin a message in comment section that updates the result. It's important that people know what you discovered or else why produce the information? The fact is Chevy can't even add the capabilities with a BCM flash. You have to buy an aftermarket cruise system.
I don’t know Randy, some of us need the lil green light 💡 😂
LOL
Well guys I begged Randy to let us know what happened with his Sonic no luck so I got my 2016 Sonic factory cruise working today and I will tell you how it’s done. I’m a mechanic and have a pass through box to flash all cars. First I went to gm overstocked parts got my new leather wrapped steering wheel for $140.00. I tried to flash it but the vin number was for a non cruise car and there was no option to add it. I called GM and was told that my steering wheel should have came with a card and a authorization number. Mine did not have a card and after that she was rude and didn’t want to help me. I told her look this is a gm part and it’s not my fault I did what I was supposed to do. Then she wanted the part number and I gave it to her. Then she said it was for a Chevy tracks. We argued for a bit and I explained it also fit a Sonic. So she got a supervisor and cleared I had the right part and approved my request. This was a hour in by the way. So now my cruise was added to my vin number. So as far as the deal is concerned the car was equipped with it. So now when I flashed the pcm the new calibration was apart of my vin and it was add to my car. Then I had to reprogram my cluster to show my cruise icon. And just like that it all works. Just like factory. The program costed me $40 for the flash. I’m thinking the dealership won’t help people because it’s a pain calling gm but whatever I won this time.
Hi! I’m trying to get cruise control on my Chevrolet Cruze 2010, i got a steering wheel but after this i don’t know what i have to do. Can you please help?
Where were you able to get a pass through box?
What's a pass though box
Thank you this was very helpful! So only the dealer has authorization to modify calibration numbers for a certain VIN, correct?
Where is the follow up video? Im eager to add it ob mine!!
did the BCM flash for cruise control work? I have a Chevy Cruze looking to do the same thing! If the BCM flash works, this is preferred over the aftermarket Rostra kit.
Interesting Randy. I usually thought cruise control had an actuator to hold the throttle. Guess I learned something new.
The ECM simply uses the TPS / throttle plate angle to determine where to hold it. It's all drive by wire. The throttle body is electronic, and it is an actuator. All drive by wire systems are this way. :)
I'm one of those people that can't live without cruise. It's always one of the first things I check for in a car... cold ac and cruise control. I would double check to see if there is a cruise control fuse, sometimes they leave them empty if not equipped. I have a feeling it will be a dealer bcm flash though.. dealers love their 1 hour labor charge for 5 minutes of computer connection.
Thanks for the tip! I didn't even think of that. I'll check today!
Randy, next time hire a carpet cleaning service. The same guys who come out and clean your carpet in your house. They will clean the interior of the vehicle to perfection. It will cost you about $130 but this process will actually remove all the dirt and stains instead of just moving the dirt around with a scrub brush. I’m actually surprised no one has suggested this. Keep up the good work and and keep this advice in mind the next time you run into this issue.
I actually bought my own supplies to do this job right next time. It's not worth paying someone IMHO. I need to maximize my profitability by doing as much myself as I can.
So do you have to replace the passenger seat to get the cruise to work or was this completely unrelated to one another? What exactly did you have to do to get this done? I’m looking into doing the same thing in a 2014 Chevy Cruze
Another great video
Thank you sir!
Any update on how you resolved this?
Did the ECM flash work to get the cruise control working?
Hey the wey you set CC is by presing Down not up and then you speed up with up button! chek if it work I wnt to do the same!
Update?
Did it work or did you have to get the bcm flashed because i want to do that but im not 100% sure need to know if it worked for you...
so how much did they charge to flash? ive got a 2017 sonic, same steering wheel and was gonna just do the same thing if it didnt mean i had to pay 340 bucks for a new steering wheel with another set of buttons lol
Did flashing the bcm work?
Did the dealer get it working? I am trying to do this on my Spark.
It's $192 where I live for the BCM flash (1 hour of labour charge). Not bad. It adds the quicker selling opportunity to the car.
Can you just replace the harness and keep the wheel or do you have to replace the steering wheel to get the cruise control
Randy on a vid rampage. Love it, keep them coming.
I'm tryin! LOL
The newer cars have a electronic control throttle so no module is required and the steering wheel communicates to the BCM via a data bus so only a re-flash should be required.
Back in my car audio days Pioneer would make separate models for corporate dealers and independent dealers. The corp. units were always missing a feature but the only difference was the nose piece. Swap the nose with the indy version and Bob's your uncle.
Very nice!!
Can this be done to a 2017 Chevy Trax ??? I’m buying one tomorrow and just found out it doesn’t have it
so I did what you did but it was for Bluetooth and it didn't work but my cruise control still worked what do I have to do or what did you do to get you'rs to work
Sorry Randy that one didn't work for you. Your the man! you'll get it working after the flash! The dealer probably will charge you an hours worth of labor for 15 minutes..Keep it up!
Yep lol. We shall see Monday. It's about to go up on Turo :)
Hey can you do the same modification on a 2015 spark? It's the base model
Did you end up getting it to work with a flash?
I saw that thumbnail with the deployed airbag and thought you had the airbag go off while replacing the steering wheel lol
Gotcha!! LOL
But does it work? Did you have the dealer set it?
Hey I’ve got my ‘16 sonic LTZ and that T50 bolt isn’t budging at all. Anyone else have this issue?
i had a manual with cruise, i think you had to push the button next to the +/- set wheel you clicked
Dying to know if you ever got it to work? From the looks of the comments and you not responding to any of the questions I think we all have our answer? Wishful thinking I guess
Do your other buttons work? All other harnesses were connected? Was there another possible connection for cruise that you had to get or connect?
All buttons and lights work other than cruise. Everything is connected.
Uber Man sorry...i should have been more clear... do all other buttons on the steering wheel work... volume etc?
I purchased a 2003 Chevy cavalier coupe for?? 200
hello, I want to start driving in NY, do you know if I have to have my driver's license for 3 years taken in NY or I can have foreign driver's license as well in order to apply? thnaks in advance!
I have no idea about that one. Sorry.
Uber Man thats okay thanks for the reply, man. does uber have any contact number or chat or anything? I couldnt find it anywhere
shotaaa22 just need your license in ny for 1 year minimum
david rivera when did u take the license? on their website it says 3 years..
shotaaa22 i have my license for over 15 years. Are you talking tlc license? Or regular? Uber only requires 1 year in NYC or in westchester. Tlc or regular. Luckily i dont need it .👍
good video :)
Let us know when you find out what it takes to get it working.. I had my 2012 Chevy Cruze a week when I went to visit my parents, about 150 miles away and discovered.. No cruise!! I have been thinking about trying the same thing.. So if it works I'll prob do the same with my car.
Video update coming soon!
Auto Auction Rebuilds any year now...
it has to be program so the system can see it for it to issue command to the ecm
How do you program the system? I talked to the dealership (after I installed the new wheel) and theyre not sure how to do it.
I never use cruise control. Lol
Seems like a lot of ppl here don't lol.
I was hoping it worked too
Oh well lol.
No update on this vid, but wanted to share:
My dad was practically gifted a 2017 Chevy Sonic (3k miles on it), but it doesn't have cruise control (CC). He and I pulled a steering wheel with CC out a scrap yard for $10, but when we took it to the dealer to program, he told us he added the module to the computer (confirmed with an OBDII Reader), but the dealership mechanic claims the ECU needs a VIC number to be programmed successfully. He says he called the company and the company says new codes only come in the box with a new steering wheel. Can anyone confirm? I think he's full of BS, as the ECU isn't talking back to any kind of database; it's not like the ECU has wifi check a code.. And that means every steering wheel is unique to each car's computer? Not buying it.
Dealer charged $120 to add the Control Module, but it still didn't fix the problem. I'll try to remember to update this as I figure out more.
Any update on if this got resolved?
Update??
@@WheelieMaster07 My dad considered the door closed on the project. He left the cruise controls in the wheel, but they are dead still, of course. I'm really tempted to do a deep dive into ECU programming and try to figure it out myself, but it comes with a high opportunity cost if I did something to prevent the car from driving. And that just wasn't worth it to my dad.
Sorry I don't have better news haha
It seems fairly common for some cars to be programmed for features they don't have, while others are not. The information probably is accurate for some Sonics.
I had to get my old Saturn programmed when I added cruise control. They charged me for a half hour of labor IIRC.
We will find out soon!
I never knew cruise control was that important to ppl to have.... I never use it lol. Wish it was OFF my steering wheel, so I can stop accidentally hitting.
LOL. :)
Its amazing to use when your on a long road trip so that you don't have to keep looking to make sure your going the speed limit and also to rest your legs
And if you have it in your RV you can get up and go to the bathroom no problem.........RIGHT??? :)
Well I guess that must have sucked big time. Sorry that did not work out like it was supposed to!
It’s plug and play on 2011 only 2012+ needs bcm reflash
U sure? Would be the same for the volume controls?
Doesn't the car have to have the cruise control module on the throttle as well?
Nope. Old cars, yes. All newer cars are drive by wire. The throttle body is the actuator for CC.
Uber Man so dealerships want to charge $500+ just for a button on the staring wheel? That sounds like a scheme to me.
Randy wanted to ask you what kind of camera do you use for the videos?
U use a combo of my Note 8 and a Panasonic Lumix G7 with a 28-140mm lens.
If the wiring to the steering wheel for cruise control is not there I don’t think it will work even if the dealer tries the reprogram the ecu IMO. This isn’t a plug and play diy “mod”
The dealer said it is. All the wiring is already there. They just omit some of the switches / options for cheaper cars.
Uber Man Exactly. Cheaper to make ALL wiring harnesses the same IMO
🚗Copart Man
If live near Boston you can NEVER use cc..stop & go 24/7
Lol when I saw the title I was thinking..."no way". I didn't think this would work because usually there's a cruise control module mounted in the engine bay somewhere. Since it didn't have CC to begin with...I highly doubt you have one. The steering wheel swap simply just gave you the controls for it. In my old Cavalier the CC module was mounted on the firewall on the passenger side. If you do need one...I think would link with the PCM and also your steering wheel. Then you would probably have to get it programmed. Doesn't sound cheap at all. Keep us updated.
Update: So I was thinking old school. Maybe there's no need for a separate module since it most likely has an electronic throttle body. Still...keep us updated.
exactly what I was thinking. like if it had the module then why not put the button on the steering wheel... is it really that much more expensive for the button. I think not... I think the module is the expensive part and from the looks of this car I believe they tried to skim down on everything to keep the cost down as much as possible... I mean come on! NO POWER WINDOWS 2015! REALLY
Bingo! New cars are drive by wire. The actuator is the CC.
Literally EVERYTHING is done in software now. You might have to get it flashed you it knows it has cc but no adtl hardware should be required.
mentioned in another comment, ive got a 2017 sonic and the dealer told me it wasnt plug and play.. i was like you cant think im that dumb right? But the guy was all like "oh yeah it doesnt have the module and the throttle has a sort of balloon actuator to hold the throttle open.. i was like really....
No cruise control wtf you are right by adding it
Also no power windows lol
Agreed.
P/W are no biggie to me. On Turo that is a blessing!! No regulators / motors to die.
Dude what ended up happening
I thouht there was a whole regulator for cruise control and all that
These cars already have everything for it. Just need the steering wheel, and a flash.
Drive by wire cars just usually need the switch added. Drive by cable cars needed all of the extra parts.
Those pullies are a m.f.'r
None needed. It just comes off by hand. :)
Just swapping over a steering wheel never works if the car Never came option with it
Son of a bitch! You read/saw it on the internet-it has to have worked!!! WTH!!!
Exactly.
Hey, I'm just wondering....it seems recently I'm getting more ads than usual while watching your videos. Always had them prior to the start, but more they're interrupting the video in like 10 min increments. Is that on YT, following my watch habits and just sprinkling more of them in, or is that extra advertising in your control and something you changed recently. Just curious. Thanks Randy. Tom
Are you shoenice?
this is how I imagine your ECU acting when you hit Cruse...
czcams.com/video/ikNK7qiE5pw/video.html
LOL!!! That's about how it went too!!
What a shame, Hope it just needs reprogramming.
Me too lol.
What a lousy video not to update it on weather it ever worked after flash.
why are you putting so much money into this car? Intentions?
He's reselling cars and turning them into great condition.
czcams.com/video/0ABQcZwUBvM/video.html&ab_channel=UberMan
So much money?? $300 for tires, $35 for a steering wheel. I wouldn't call that a lot of money. I have a $4300 car that books at $8500. I can afford to make it a good car and still make a profit.
