    The UV filtration systems for rainwater are legit! They would go in a well house like you already built and take care of any concerns you have about microbes. Add a filter to remove the iron to keep your fixtures and appliances from rusting and you'll be golden!

  • @constructionworkerjasonarm3559

    Water flow info: one 4" pipe handles no more than three downspouts
    If youre filling a catch with the rain, make your drain to the catch a large diameter pipe and let all the 4" lines(each catching 3 downspouts) drain into the large diameter pipe. All this so the system can handle the flow during rain events. If done improperly, the system will literally fill and overflow around house at every downspout...that will soak your footer. Tip: remember the entire square footage of the home is catching all the rain on the roof, and then is diverted. This is a ton of water, so make sure the pipes are large enough.
    Peace bros.
    J
    P.s.- dont listen to anyone who says 4" pipe good enough for your house. Its only good for three downspouts. Even the smallest houses have at least four downspouts. This requires a second drain line, unless its oversized.

    Rain water harvesting is pretty normal in aus. I have 120,000litre tank.
    You don't have to have a constant downwards slope to the tank. As long as the tank is lower than the house. It will find its own level.
    We drink rain water unfiltered. My last house has a small inline 5micron filter. It's useful, but not needed

    • @Peteslife
      @Peteslife Před rokem

      Same here I drink my own water. I do use a drinking water filter but hardly ever change the filters. We aussies have been collecting rainwater for hundreds of years.. the really old rusted out tanks are used for dog kennels and firewood shelters.. I am surprised the Americans are only just starting to make a big deal out of water collecting now. And I don’t know why they carry on about acid rain?? So weird.

      @keithwright2726 Před rokem +2

      What about all the bird poop and other debri on your roof? I'm American and I am genuinely curious. I think I would use a good filtration system.

    • @sfefsew
      @sfefsew Před rokem +1

      @@keithwright2726 it's a good question. Typically you draw water out of the tank about 10inches up so all debris can sink and sit on the bottom.
      We occasionally treat the water with chlorine maybe once every 2 years.
      The tanks are fully dark, no light gets in to inhibit algae growth.
      Most tanks in Australia will go for a decade or more without cleaning

    • @Peteslife
      @Peteslife Před rokem +1

      @@keithwright2726 yeah same here I don’t worry about bird poop.
      I have a home made first flush system. So some debris goes into that then down and into the tank. The leaves and dirt mean you need to keep your gutters cleaned out. Otherwise it’s just collect and drink. You need a pump to get the water in your house. So if power goes out you also don’t have water.

    • @sfefsew
      @sfefsew Před rokem

      @@Peteslife same. First flush is usually good enough.
      We don't have trees around our house so no real concerns for leaves but we do have birds.

    Love the way our boys don't worry about the technicalities like calculating how much water they need to drain from the roof areas. Lets just collect it all and chuck it all through a single 100mm pipe and see what happens - which is why they often end up doing things twice. The first torrential downpour will overwhelm the system. By the way they need to bed all that pipework on compacted sand otherwise the levels will be all over the place once they chuck a load of top soil onto the pipes. Good luck this winter 😁😁

    As usual you guys put out good videos, Thanks for house update. I was wondering how the rain harvesting system was going Guys, All those bottled water you guys buy is reverse osmosis water. You need a pump house for your rain harvest system, that pump house will need to include a three part water filter system. Including a ultra violet light filter. The most important thing in your water harvesting system is to place a pitch on your pipes leading to the tanks.( Let gravity do the heavy lifting ). It would be better to have a tank close to the house to provide water pressure to the house, the other holding tanks would just hold supply then water pumps would do the work of moving the water to the house. You could even build a small solar /battery system to power the pump and filter system. With enough battery capacity to last 3 days (for cloudy days). Any thing longer and you could charge the batteries with a gas generator. Even a right size Bluetti, or Ecoflow hooked up to 2 solar panels would do the trick. just check the power needed for the pump and the violet light filter . You guys are blessed with all that rain. You will save on your water and power bill. Should pay for itself in 3-5 yrs, Then you will be net-positive.
    Guys please try to keep merchandise stocked, I'm never able to buy the things I like. Not even a beanie. Keep up the good work !

    You guys also need a side open skimmer filter before an S bend at the end of the 4" pipe where it goes into the rainwater tank because it prevents air & mozzies from getting into your tank. Rainwater tanks work best when they are sealed so the water cannot become stagnated & the side open skimmer filter before the S bend acts to catch any leaves, dirt & solids before going into the S bend, the side open skimmer filter also acts as a rainwater tank overflow that is higher than the tank & S bend so your tank can overflow if your tank ever fills up to maximum capacity.

    Had rain water supply when I lived in Ireland 🇮🇪 just run it though a normal filter and a uv filter and you'll be fine. Purest water you could have and free ( after set up costs) love the work dudes

    I told you guys about the CZcams family of "Life UnContained" and their Rainwater collection and Filtering systems.There's traps in the downspouts to catch leaves etc so it doesn't go into the pipes,and tanks.They live totally Off-grid.

    I guess it doesn’t ever get actual cold cold in Chattanooga.
    Collecting rain water as a primary water source and only burring the pipe 8-9 inches wouldn’t be feasible here in Fargo.

    EDIT: RO water systems exist for whole house applications. My last house had terrible well water until I spent the money and had an reverse osmosis system installed. Ice cubes looked like crystal clear globes after that.

    Ha , just reading a few of the posts here , Here in Australia it wasn't unusual to be drinking tank water back in the time. , but once every one had access to piped treated water that sort of went out of fashion , But it is sort of coming back a little. , certainly collecting run off is encouraged , and here where I live. , I believe some form of water collection has to be part of any residential development .good for the environment as they say !

    They also run a rain catching system. But have added leaf chachers and first flush to grab dirt and such of the roof before it enters the water tanks. Plus shows how water filters are important..
    Looking forward to 2023 and wot you guys have planned. 👍🍺🇬🇧

    You should compact the dirt before laying the pipe. Buy a level at your hardware store and make sure it was atleast an 1/8 inch of fall throughout the whole pipe. Also you guys should install cleanouts going both ways just incase something gets clogged.

  • @richardmay6865
    @richardmay6865 Před rokem

    Looking great. Question for you. Did you make sure you have a large enough diameter of pipe for the amount of rainwater collecting in them? I see you have a number of connections going into the same pipe. I think a couple of pipes running side by side or a larger diameter would allow water to flow without backing up. Just curious.
