@@Joshcoshbagosh Yeah, I mean it is great in its own bizarre, fanciful, freak show way, but it’s 100% a Tim Burton movie, not a Batman movie. And sure, that might be enough to garner a cult following, but for general audiences, it was so unpalatable and off putting, that WB ended up doing a complete 180, and that’s how we got the Shumacher disasters (which also parallels what happened to the Snyderverse, and the studio interference with Justice League quite nicely). And not only do stunts like that lead to potentially franchise ruining messes, but it’s also just plainly disrespectful to the character. The character who ideally SHOULD be the star of the show, but isn’t, because of the director’s own ego and personal fantasy, that makes them create a film that’s in service to themselves fist and foremost, and not the actual character that the movie claims to be about, or even the audience that’s expecting to see the character they love done justice to.

Its success is definitely related to ANH's success but it's also a testament to the desire for new Star Wars movies and how good the movie itself was. As much as I think RoS was a disaster, TFA was a good setup and I really wish JJ had done the whole trilogy from the beginning as it would've worked out better (no Palpatine resurrection thing as JJ would've kept Snoke alive no doubt).

I’m glad Jon finally pointed out the difference between being a great producer does not mean you necessarily are going to be great at the creative direction of an entire franchise. I get tired of every time this is brought up by C in the comment section “why does Jon keep telling her she’s a good producer when clearly she’s not.” no she’s an awesome producer but a producers job has nothing to do with the creative side. Michael Jordan is the best basketball player that ever lived, but there’s a reason why he never won a World Series in baseball. He just wasn’t a good baseball player.
And I don’t think she’s a terrible person, and there are some fans that like are really too obsessed in are psychopaths and who need a therapist and to desperately get laid because they’re the ones online wishing horrible things would happen to her in her personal life. It’s fine to say she’s a decent human being, but she’s just not good at her job. Heading up the Star Wars franchise.
I feel about the same way Jon does. When Lucasfilm first started putting out projects under Disney, they were hitting home runs. The Force Awakens, Rogue One, Star Wars Rebels, The Mandalorian…… hell I remember and I’m someone who loves the old EU books, and I still have some of them, but I remember loving some of the new novels that were coming out. But at this point Jones right it’s time for her to go and for the sake of Star Wars, I don’t want to sound like a dick but the sooner the better. They need to find someone with thick skin to deal with the army of 40 and 50 year old virgins, who are going to cry from now until the the day that they die, even even if the next five Star Wars movies are the greatest movies in the history of Cinema. They will still be crying about it, but find someone that has a brilliant, creative mind, that knows in love Star Wars, and again has some very thick skin and get this back on track. I’m sure Kathleen Kennedy will be fine. She’s made more money to this point than any five of us will see you in a lifetime. But yeah, you can’t have this mini screw ups and still be the one in charge over there.

I will give Kennedy this... She is a producer on many movies I will love until my dying day. Also, she has had some wins, from a certain point of view. The Force Awakens made a lot of money, true. However, its value as a part of the Star Wars mythos is not decided in a vacuum. It would be decided by the story and execution of what would follow. Yes, she decided to go with Favreau's pitch for the Mandalorian, even partnered him up with Filoni... but it is their work that made the Mandalorian a success. There are even accounts that she was an active component in the Book of Boba Fett crapshow. Add to all this... the cancelations and her inability to get on the same page with those she hires. I understand not wanting to be overly negative but, at some point, one has to be realistic. I had hoped for better, as she was chosen by Lucas, but she was obviously not the person to run Star Wars. No amount of spin is going to change that.

Star Wars has all the possibility in the world and what have they given us? a pretty decent movie and series with Rogue One and Mando and then 1 great show with Andor. Everything else in my opinion has ranged from bad to medicore. They’ve had Star Wars for over 10 years and it’s been such a mess. Never have I been more disappointed in any film/tv show then I have been with Star Wars. Should’ve just been George’s 6 movie saga (which I know has flaws) and leave it at that. Honestly, I'm completely fine with none of these projects coming to light. They shouldn't be making Star Wars films for the sake of making Star Wars films. Call me cynical, but Star Wars was a story that started in '77 and ended in '83. It doesn't *need* more. It's nice to get new ones, but not necessary. New film ideas should be nurtured and thought about carefully and should be made when the story is absolutely ready and must be told.
Less truly is more. Lucasfilm shouldn't have announced all the projects they did (like Rogue Squadron), it looks bad on their end. But honestly, they should be more conservative when it comes to making Star Wars branded films. As a studio, they should really focus on new ideas. Not just Star Wars. It's a shame Lucasfilm's Children of Blood and Bone adaptation got canned. At least that would have been something new and original.
Don't get me wrong, I love Star Wars and don't mind there being new movies, but trying to force films to happen is a bad idea. Let a film come when its ready is what I'm trying to say. Star Wars is not some buffet that's open 24/7, its an experience that comes and goes.

Lord + Miller on Solo - Fired with two weeks before the production wrapped with Ron Howard taking over (which btw, I don’t blame Ron Howard for any of how that turned out, he was basically hired so Lawrence Kasdan can tell him shoot it “that way”)
Colin Trevorrow - Fired from Episode IX with JJ Abrams taking over (which I was fine with coz if those Jurassic World movies taught me anything, Colin Trevorrow is not a good filmmaker)
Since then we’ve had Patty Jenkins, the Game Of Thrones duo, Kevin Fiege (which was for the best given what’s happening over at Marvel), now Damon Lindeloff… God damn that’s a lot of talent coming & going. We’ll see how that Taika Waititi one turns out

@@vineetdesai6396 Bro, you realize that Hollywood uses a very skewed, bogus accounting ledger to stay in the "red" for a movie. Now use common sense and ask yourself WHY does it take $800 miilion to break even from a $250 million budget. I interned at CBS studios I know how ledgers are put together for taxes, tax credits, salaries, expenses and budgets for studios. Studios use this standard accounting to manipulate salaries for actors and to control the market similar to a "salary cap". Many movie star actors contracts have backend agreements (part of ticket sales, streaming and merchandise sales) Not including "sponsors millions" from streaming sites.
Case in point, Marvel filmed 2 movies together, back to back, at the same location, to save on budget expenditures (Shang-Chi and Dr. Strange ) They hire 20 FX studios as well as their in-house fx crew using "Green rooms" to flesh out big locations (you really think they filmed those scenes in the Himalayas?). BTW, many fx studios have to low-ball bid each other to get that Shang-chi contract which then they work overtime, burn out their graphic artists, which in turn they eventually lose money. I've witness this time and time again. (the purple isn't purple enough or the shading is quite right so they have to redo it.) Superhero genre is not waning. They will ALWAYS break over $600 million at the box office. The only reason ALL MOVIES are down in theatrical sales are because "Russia and China" closed off their markets to the US (War in Ukraine, and China's anger at our government for the verbal attacks) Those 2 countries alone help push American movies sales into the $billions) James Cameron's Avator was allowed release in China, wherein Wakanda forever was allowed to run. Avator hit $2 billion and Wakanda grossed $880 million without China's market. In a nutshell, animation and superhero movies will be around forever (John Wick is an action (super)" hero" movie) The STORY just have to be good like any other movie.
