I just watched it again it's just so awesome! Look at that cut they pulled out of Amway! The biggest I've seen in recent times was 4 cars. Also, I love how in the last scene you can hear MMRR #5080's horn blowing in the distance before #5106 starts to blow. I shot a train coming around that same curve last month, let me know if you'd like to see it!
Oh my god! This awesome, I've been wanting to see a video from this era of the GRE forever! Unfortunantly the line east of Lowell to Ionia is now gone, as is the Mid Michigan RR line north of Lowell. Mid Michigan GP9 #24 now operates what's left of the GRE, and the Grand Rapids Eastern GP38 #3839 (5106 in this video) is now in Muskegon on sister railroad Michigan Shore.
My father grew up with the GTW line from Fuller Jct. to Grand Rapids Press only a mile away. Thanks for posting this video from a transition era here.

Definitely into the short lines! Nice video.
Love the clickety clackety sound of jointed rail!! Nice catches!!
I was just near the corner of Leonard and Plainfield two days ago and the train went past. February 2023
May I use some of this footage for a DVD project?

None.... Nothing left.
I was so upset that trains are no longer operates between Ionia and Lowell, Lowell to Greenville anymore. It's going to be a bike trail.
There seems to be a distant Leslie horn at 8:30 . Was there another train nearby at Malta or Lowell?
