No resume can get you offers. At best, they get your foot in the door to an interview and start you off on a positive note. The rest is on you to sell yourself through talking to them

Here's how to do it for everyone who doesn't have time - 'Microsoft'. Writing the word is easier than getting the internship though, particularly if you live nowhere near Microsoft.

Can you link a word document for your resume? When when clicking on the google docs link, the margins change and the name on top of resume goes to another spot on the page
Do we need to provide metrics for every bullet point per job on my resume?
Now that I did, my resume looks very hard to read cuz there are percentages everywhere of my resume under work experience section.

I’ve been pursuing on switching my career to tech so I dont have any background or education in the field besides self taught and couple of online courses, of course still working on it but how would you go about writing a good resume when all you have is self taught or coming from different career in my case welding/ fabricator to land your first job in the field?

However, I have 0 experience and I am getting rejected a lot for entry level jobs, I am passionate about frontend web development and I have multiple personal projects in a portfolio website, how would you make up for zero work experience? thanks.

Could you explain the difference software engineering vs developing? Also stuck in between choosing Informatics or CS as my major. Any advice? Also keep up the videos, they're motivational and inspiring. Thank you so much
they are one and the same in my opinion (also video on this soon!), i’d highly recommend CS, it’ll teach you problem solving and you can always go from CS to Informatics but not the other way around - good luck!

@@namanhkapur They are not the same. Engineers design and solve problems. The most important thing a Software Engineer does is design scalable systems. Coding is just an artifact of the design. Developers code... they typically don't design large scale systems.

You posted a recent video about how if you could go back and do it again, you'd have used a different path to become a developer. I am interested in how you would frame a resume for someone who is self taught, someone who used a bunch of udemy courses to learn, but has no formal education in programming. Someone with a degree that has nothing to do with programming.

I dunno I am working part-time as a US Recruiter and we usually break down such resumes into simple looking resumes as much as possible.. well we take links, education and other requirements and input them in an Excel format. So i think simple format would be more than enough. But this is an interesting resume tho
I take it back. Interms of ingenuity this is a really good example on how you make a resume if i was to simplify this it would be only on format basis while the contents itself would be the same no changes and with such contents this is one hell of a resume.

in this new remote world, i don’t think companies care where you’re located, but yes if you’re in india they may try to hire you for the india location/office
I’m in an Analytics role that supports our People Team, and what my company does (mid-sized tech), as well as most companies, is hire out-of-US folks in predominantly contractor roles because of the many complications in employment laws, visas, etc. When we do hire foreign workers in non-contractor roles, which is relatively rare, it’s always under the foreign office where applicable. I’m fairly confident this is how most companies approach this

Hey Namanh, love the video and love the channel! Your content has been super helpful for a student like me who doesn't have a traditional CS or engineering background.
I had a quick question about putting future internships on your resume. I have a Fall SWE internship at Microsoft starting in September, which is unfortunately after a lot of companies open up their applications (I'm recruiting for full-time roles). I don't go to a target university, I'm not a computer science student, and my only other internship experience is at a small 40-person startup, so I wanted to have the Microsoft name on my resume to help get noticed by some of the more selective companies (alongside all the networking tips you mentioned in a previous video).
Is it okay to put something like "Microsoft - Incoming Fall SWE Intern" on my resume or should I just leave it off entirely?
i’d recommend it - just put “Microsoft | Incoming Software Engineer Intern” along with the dates; you can add one bullet point with which team and what project (if you know) or honestly you can leave out any bullets and have more space for some of your other experiences; one thing i forgot to mention in the video, is you want your experiences to be chronological, so put microsoft at the very top (which is great since it’s the first thing recruiters will see) - good luck!
1 page resume applies to people who have worked for 1-3 clients. Not for those worked for over 20 years on 15+ projects
it applies to everyone, elon’s career spans more than 25 years and his resume is one page

i wouldn’t say drastically, a resume is about presenting whatever you have in the best way possible - you can still make a very powerful resume without status symbols; yes ivy league will help, but not having ivy league is fine too
