I preordered this game and cannot wait to play it. It brings me back to the PS2 era action games that I grew up with: Onimusha, Devil May Cry, Shinobi, Chaos Legion, Genji, etc.
Also, the controversy is so overdramatic and overblown. We need to support more of these games. Especially from SK developers, because they mainly focus on PC and mobile gaming. They rarely take a risk and create high production games for consoles. We should support the talented artists and programmers who take risks and want to break into the competitive market instead of chastising them.

I've beaten games from Ghost Of Tsushima to Elden Ring. I have mastered the mechanics in games like Sekiro and Jedi Fallen Order...
I say all that to say this:
I played the free demo, and ended up putting 40 hours into it (it was THAT GOOD)
I NEVER preorder games in today's buggy release world... BUT I PRE-ORDERED THE DELUXE VERSION OF STELLAR BLADE.
What did Victor get wrong here?

That's the beauty of this content. Even if its a review for a game you can't play for whatever reason its still enjoyable and informative in case that ever changes. Been a big fan since your CityTV days Vic, stay awesome!
Having watched multiple SB reviews, this is the broad consensus:
+ Great combat (narrower parry/dodge windows than Sekiro)
+ Good boss battles
- Paper thin characterizations
- Repetitive fetch side quests
Aggregate Score: 8ish/10
Gonna keep my expectations tempered, Lies of P knocked it out of the park and if SB can come close it'll be good[
Shift Up is a game dev who's been more prominent in the mobile space. They're most well-known for Goddess of Victory Nikke, from which SB shares alot aspects.
Yup I had heard it was a new studio (which it kinda is) and a new IP that’s why I had to add the *text to my review. Haven’t played their mobile stuff.
I'm only a few minutes into this review but there are absolutely no words to describe how amazing this game looks I'm absolutely speechless shift up did an awesome job on this game🙀
Nier Automata is one of my favourite games from last gen, so I was excited for this. I think I will wait for it to go on sale though. Thanks for the review as always Vic!

Love the review. Haven't made it through the demo yet, but I found it more of a Bayonetta and NieR: Automata hybrid... especially with the opening prologue.
May wait for it to go on sale, but still interested in this game

Seeing that you already comparing Shift Up to Santa Monica, Platinum Games, Insomniac...just shows how damn talented Shift Up is on their debut...remember these guys only made cell phone mobile games and took a gamble and said to themselves let's try this console AAA stuff that's not even done that much in South Korea ago. And that is huge kudos to them
Yep Sony knows how to find great studio partners. This is a big deal for the biz. Shift Up made a huge statement with this game.

Stellar review, Vic. I'm ambivalent towards this game. Looks great in 4K and the gameplay is fun, but it's difficult to justify $80-90 on something this when my PS5 is used for story-telling masterpieces like The Last of Us 2 and God of War. The story in this seems as thin as bible paper.
I got a code for review a couple weeks ago and devoured this game! I thought it was so special! But I do agree with a lot of your takes. I’m hoping that if Stellar Blade 2 happens that it’ll be a little more polished! Great review, Vic!!
Demo made it seems like a stylized version of sekiro, or a soulized version of Nier. Sekiro meets Nier meets DMC. It’s a great combination for me.
this game does look pretty good, but Sekiro has been taking up a lot of my gaming time lately. Despite how hard that one is.
See that’s what I’m talking about - so many awesome, older but still rewarding games to play. Hack n’ Slash Action Adventure is a very crowded and competitive field! Stellar Balde did great despite that but it’s not quite near the top of the mountain.
@@EPN yeah, I'll likely wait for it to be on sale. To pick it up, there's also the Elden Ring DLC in June, and that's going to be huge.

I played the demo and really enjoyed it. This is a day 1 buy for me. I love the fact that the studio behind this title isn't afraid to have beautiful women in their video game.
I completely agree. Its crazy that so many studios are trying to make their characters ugly on purpose. Even with a beautiful face model. Then Pokemon go completely removes gender

@@deandre6559 I suspect it's because of the widespread Rule34 for practically every woman character. Artists and executives probably agree they don't want their characters used and abused like that. TL;DR the internet ruined it.
Literally no one is afraid to have beautiful people in their games. Some people are just making games where that's not the focus.

I usually agree with this reviewer but with Stellar Blade I disagree. The fighting in Stellar Blade is extremely polished. The game runs great. When Jedi Survivor released, it was full of glitches. Stellar Blade runs flawlessly. This reviewer should also play the game in Korean instead of English. The Korean voice acting is much better.

@@vajerI've got em all. Switch, PS5, and XBX and my Xbox hasn't gotten any play since Lies of P launched. Between Helldivers 2, FFVII Rebirth, Rise of Ronin, and this; XBX is struggling, hard and their fanboys are coping even harder.

Naw, I think EPN is being more than fair here. A 7.5 is a solid score, and the dialogue and acting is a bit weak, but I've never played GOW or Souls or Sekiro, so to me the combat is extremely strong and satisfying. Good review EPN!
