  • An ancient American Indian (indigenous American) Paiute people sacred site with not only petroglyphs but also excellent pictographs. These locations may be closed to non-tribal members, so check with the rangers to where you are allowed to go before visiting.
This site is close to the famous Winnemucca Lake petroglyphs (site 26Wa3329), dated at around 15,000 years old. So, pre-historic, ancient, as in the oldest know anywhere and before the Younger Dryas event! In other words, pretty amazing and a very important site right in North America. Lake Winnemucca is now a dry lakebed and this other tufa rock outcropping a bit further away proved to be an incredible site with not only ancient, deep carved petroglyphs, but also red colored pictographs all around the rock shelters and protected areas. It would have also been partially underwater and it seems you can see the old waterlines or watermarks from the old shoreline.
"Winnemucca Lake is home to several petroglyphs long believed to be very old. In 2013, researchers dated the carvings to between 14,800 and 10,500 years ago. Either date would make them the oldest known petroglyphs found in North America. The carvings lie within the Pyramid Lake Indian Reservation.” Source: en.wikipedia.o...
So this site is totally different than the famous place in Pyramid Lake Reservation. This was up the hill further, so likely was longer not in the lake and as such, potentially even longer in use by ancient, true, American ancestors. It’s clear there is a lot of activity that took place on and around this tufa rock outcropping, overlooking the old lakebed. The rock art and pre-historic paintings were facing East or South. The southerly direction is interesting, as that is where the plasma discharge was supposed to have happened, thousands of years ago, that produce an aurora that was visible in the sky as a celestial event.
What is great about this ancient site is that you have both pictographs and petroglyphs!
A pictograph is a type of rock art where images and designs are painted onto rocks or cave walls, while a petroglyph is a type of rock art where images and designs are carved or pecked into a rock surface. Pictographs are created using a pigment or paint, while petroglyphs are created by removing the surface of the rock to create an image.

Thank you very much for this, especially for the the abstract carved petroglyphs near the ceremonial circle, I think these must be the same people that carved site 26Wa3329. Are you certain the Paiute made these though, I know it’s Paiute land now but 10-15 thousand years ago I wonder wether they migrated when the climate changed and lake Lahontan dried

Your welcome. It is a very interesting, untouched site. Not sure, at all if this was from the Paiute people. It does look old, for sure and there have been several other peoples that have shared this land. Would be interesting to find out.

Very nice, but next time please don't swing your camera around so much. It can give me vertigo. Thanks.

Not slate my rock lovin friends. Basalt. And fun fact you might not know lol! The tufa actually attaches itself to a the basalt and grows. And you kinda touched on it but the tufa is limestone at its core and if you gather just the tufa and pulverize it, add a bit of coke (like a volcanic ash not the soda drink 😂😉) and yes, it’s absolutely a type of cement/holds those properties. It does deteriorate a bit quicker if intense heat isn’t applied like in a brick oven. The salt in the limestone has almost a magic effect when it is introduced to volcanic ash. It has silica in it also and that combination is kinda close to the Roman recipe once used, and still standing. For the most part. Just think though. Thousands of years ago, where y’all were was ocean!

Hahahah that isn't a leaf form it is TREE OGHAM! Irish! The 3 lines (trident) at the top means beginning of sentence, the one at the bottom means end of sentence. It is a tree and is read as a tree is climbed, from the bottom up, going right hand, then left, then right, then left, and so on.

If somebody goes into an area that is designated for tribal only; what will happen to them?

You could be arrested. We’ve strayed onto indigenous peoples lands other times when in the middle of no where. Someone seems to show up, armed and asks you to leave. They will sometimes give you a thorough way if you just need to travel across but always best to first gain permission.
