Fixing Uneven Chain Tension on a Motorcycle | Unexpected Cause

- I recently discovered that my Royal Enfield Classic motorcycle had an uneven chain slack. I was trying to adjust my chain when I found that the chain tension varied on different places of the chain as I turned the wheel. There are several reasons that can cause this problem. In this video I show how to identify the correct course and how to fix it. The cause was unexpected!

This is the best technique I've seen so far and I've been on CZcams for the last 1 hour
@@mr_x718 thx 🙏
Hands down brother.. you're the best❤
Amazing, thanks for the great video!
@MotoMortan so after 15000km I took my classic reborn for 4th service I was told my chain has this loose tight issue. It was tough to find any such video on CZcams that could explain the issue and it's fix. Thanks to you now atleast I know how and what to investigate
Thx. Did you fix it? What was the cause?
In my case the sprocket is ok but chain seems to have stretched only slightly I think. For now I have to do more frequent chain tightening but it's doable. I will probably think of a replacement maybe around next servicing which is at 20k
@@dheerajyadav8134 chain will be uneven if you over tighten it. Make sure to keep the recommended 3cm slack
@@dheerajyadav8134 I'm also facing same issues with my hunter 350.
@MotoMorten now after almost 18500km and chain tightening, I have reached almost the last mark beyond which I cannot tighten it further . I talked to RE service engineer and they told I will have to get the entire kit replaced which is front sprocket, rear sprocket and chain along with any seals that come, so this is full chain kit they said. Roughly around $40 here in India including service charges.
So now I am thinking if I have to change then I will probably go with brass performance chain, I am not able to find any X ring so I will go with rolon brass O ring chain kit.
Great video. Thanks.
So , did you change the front sprocker , or is it okay to ride like that .
What is good brand for sprocket?
Great deduction method! Thanks!
My pleasure 😊
that is amazing (and cool music too)
It makes sense: the sprockets and the chain are not in phase (to even out wear). Its 1 am and I had to try it out. In my case it was defintely the chain itself that causes uneven tension.
Thank you.
Bro, can you do a video on chain slack adjustment.. tightening the loose chain
What signs did you notice when riding your motorcycle on the road that indicated to you the problematic front sprocket?
It is really helpful! Thank you for this video!
Thanks for that comment. It makes my effort feel like it is worth it ☺️
@@MotoMorten Yes, I understand that feeling. No I found out that it is tight at the very same 2 spots when I mark the chain, what means it is the chain. But I don't understand how a chain may cause this problem. Will go investigate...
@@videomess5033 typically happens if the chain has been to tight, and gets stretched when the rear damper is fully compressed
This helped a lot to determine it’s not the chain. But what is the next step to fix the issue if it’s rear sprocket or front sprocket. Is it just to replace either one or clean I’m unsure hard to see the issue on from sprocket that u show. To me it looks like it is turning lol I’m. We at riding and just wanna make sure I’m doing everything correct ya knw. It’s a new chain and sprocket kit maybe 1-2 months old vortex
My bike royal emfiled my bike same problem chine same problem how tu problem solved please tell me
Super useful
Sir my bike same problem how tu replacement plz telime sir
Where did you get the 16 tooth sprocket?
Hitchcocs in UK. They sccepted return, and will send me a replacement. No stress 👍
Hi.
How many teeth rear sprocket did you get for the 106 pitch chain?
I kept the standard rear. 42, maybe?
Thank you
Jab chain lose tight halat me tha tab chain pe noise aya tha kya ...plz tell me ,🙏🙏🙏
Thanks!!
hi! thanks for the video. i did the test on mine and it indicates that its my rear sprocket. Does that mean I need a new one? its the sprocket that came on the bike and it only has 5k miles
Yes, or the tension on the bolts are wrong. Maybe take it back to the dealer.
Its Really Help me lot . Thank You for making his video
I am glad it did. Thanks for the comment 😊
Does this affect the cornering, cause im feeling a resistance while conering on the right
Wouldn't think so, no
Would this cause excessive vibration? My chain is doing this and I’m trying to solve a vibration issue
@@B4TheFlood It could at speed. But could also be an unbalanced wheel, or the engine
Change back to the original front sprocket and see if still not true. Hopefully not the output shaft👍🏻👍🏻
I did, and it resolved the problem 😅
Just to be clear the set I purchased was front rear sprocket and chain
My joiner link caused my same problem. It would gather on the sprocket.
Thx. Good input 👍
Interesting!!
Glad you think so. Happy I found out!
Hello please reply sir
Sorry. Not quite sure what you asked 😅?
It is amazing just how bad aftermarket parts can be... 🤬
True
But I didn’t understand what is the solution for this issue ???
For my bike it was the front sprocket that was uneven and needed replacement.
@@MotoMorten so mainly the problem should be in front or rear sprocket ?? M I right ?
@@RohanGulig or the chain. Thats why I did multiple checks.
That writing was so small.. but I get what I saw..
Great vid but Lose the music
Rotate the rear wheel once. If you get just one tight spot, then it's likely the rear sprocket. If you get multiple tight spots, then it's likely the front. If it's the front, then the number of tight spots should be roughly equal to the front / rear tooth count ratio. For example if the ratio is 4:1 then a front sprocket problem should give 4 tight spots.
But you didn't fix it.. the cause is noticed. The fault recognised.
The solution?
New sprockets.
I had to order a new sprocket, yes. Fixed it!
Tout ça pour dire que simplement la chaine est trop tendue, dans le même laps de temps, il vous aurai suffit de la détendre avec la procédure prévue.
No. It is uneven. I had to change the front sprocket. 😅
Excellent work
