Known for its poor taste, robusta coffee beans have long sat in the shadow of a more popular alternative, arabica. But a warming planet is threatening the supply of arabica beans. Hoping to provide a popular alternative, some Vietnamese coffee farmers are trying to cultivate better-tasting robusta beans, which can thrive in warmer temperatures.

2:40 What issue? There's nothing wrong with the flavour of Vietnamese Robusta. Its distinctive flavour from arabica is why i love drinking vietnam coffee. There's no need to make it similar in flavour to arabica. Accept it as it is.

its like asking a fine wine taster vs someone trying to act like one vs that-one-drunkard who drinks all the time for pleasure

Well said 👍
@@jfox8888 hey that would be me, since I am a heavy drinker unless on really special occasion I normally dont drink, at all. However if you bring me any wine bottle regarless of alcohol 40% or 60%, be it as 1mil bucks or 1$ plastic rice bottle in Asia I can drink it less than half an hour 😂
Vietnamese Robusta is great! Extra kick of caffeine is nice
I like the earthy flavor of Robusta. I’m starting to drink Phin filter coffee nowadays. 80% of the time I’m drinking Robusta coffee unsweetened. That initial grimace from the bitterness is what perks me up each morning. I only drink it sweetened in the afternoon. Half a pack of sugar or half the standard quantity of condensed/evaporated milk that Vietnamese add in their cà phê sữa đá.
By US or EU telling us that Starbucks is coffee it should tell us all we need to know about their coffee "knowledge" and getting picky with coffee beans… They are mostly drinking water while Asian, South E A and Latin American people likes strong coffee. Ignore them!
Southeast Asian (particularly Vietnam and Myanmar) coffee beans are my favourite. I think they taste better than Latin American or African beans. Of course, everyone has their own favourite ;D
Go Vietnam. Ignore the naysayers. Time to make the most of climate change.
Its popularity will be determined by South East and East Asians. Why need to follow Westerners' taste buds? Vietnamese coffee is getting popular in this region.
Wow.....a Vietnan farmer coffee champion. Is beautiful, must was hard work. Congratulations from 🇧🇷👏....now I want my mug full please
Coffee supply is extremely rising. Vietnam is the world's cheapest coffee too, by far. So aside from the taste, the adaptability and purchasing power increases as well.. I'd like to see Vietnam to rise and be the new coffee supplier in the world... and hopefully all of the ASEAN countries too ❤🎉
I do enjoy robusta beans for my coffee, I do love the extra kick of caffeine inside my cup of coffee.
The type of coffees served in Vietnam tends to be very strongly flavored with condensed milk or other creamers/sweeteners, and robusta is a much better pair for that than arabica. I've made vietnamese coffee with arabica espresso, and the flavor was completely overpowered by the sweetened condensed milk. With robusta, that doesn't happen at all. However, if you're going to drink coffee completely black or even as a latte, it's hard for robusta to beat arabica in that regard as it's just too intense for most palates.
Arabica is furthest from being similar to tea. Just drink tea. Now there is even black tea on the market.
Robusta is way better than weak arabica
Better than my country's coffee production
Lu miskin kali gabisa wakop mahal
Doubt most people could even tell the difference
There's nothing inherently wrong with Robusta, it's all about what people are used to. Some people like a more dark, bitter taste.
East Germany legacy in Vietnam
How?
To combat coffee crisis in the country East Germany strike a deal with Vietnam to help them growing coffee by sending scientists and funds, the idea is German would get priority and affordable price. But before the project come into fruition, the east and west Germany united.

I love ca phe sua da and ca phe trung
Bitter? I just got a bag of tanzanian robusta in my grinder, and it's sweet, rich and delicious!
Coffee perfumes❤❤
May i know the cofee mix with wine or pig product...?
She seems to have 2 different last names
I love the pungent one, but still love Arabica😂
buying raw green robusta beans off of the internet (e -baie) is usually buying unusable rancid beans , I'm going to be switching to Vietnam suppliers is I can find any , because there seems to be a problem knowing who is struggling with telling the truth about where raw green beans are sourced , this week , 4/24 I'm throwing away a horrible batch of robusta sourced from the "americas" after being reassured repeatedly about "freshness" but got rancid product
im skeptical, but i have not tried vietmenese coffee, maybe i should.

I'll taste it before I believe it. But it would be nice if they can succeed in squeezing better flavor out of Robusta beans.
Wonder Arabia got anything to do with this

ALWAYS a commercial for global warming hysteria, inserted into almost every video these days. As for robusta, I got some Robarica 100% pure robusta from Vietnam, and it is BETTER then arabica. I don't even buy arabica anymore.
More climate idiocy.

Hi
Perhaps it's time to avoid using the US$ for price reference, rather it should be China's Yuan as the new norm.
Lucky Vietnamese takes the advantage from chyna’s demise
😂😂😂
China demise what? Vietnam has always 2nd in coffee (robusta) export, only behind brazil, even before covid. And their plantation is from French occupation era. What does china have anything with this?

Why do they insist in grewing such low yield highly intensive crop with only one harvest a year?
Because thats what industry wanted, same thing with USSR destroying Aral Sea to grow cotton despite being water thirsty
It's actually french who brought the coffee in Vietnam after analysing the weather conditions, in the high altitude area which is called Tây Nguyên. Since then the coffee remains as acharacteristic farming products of this region
@@morningglory910,,,,,, short season high yield crops with at least three harvest a year seem to make economic sense. One hectare of coffee produce one ton that sells at 2000$.one hectare of soy beans produce 4 tones that sell at 1600$ with three harvest a year. Which one makes economic sense?
@yumena,,,,, they can make more growing cereals with high yields, three harvest a year and less labour intensive
because unlike your protected and "luxury " life, they dont have much choice if they need to produce something. Seems like comments like yours, always fail to comprehend the need to understand history and the likes.
