We're thinking of changing our fuel filter by ourselves. We normally go to the shop and have them do it. After watching this it makes me think it's not so hard.
If you have the wrench and a bucket and empty coolant container to drain into your good to go also helps to have a small gas can to refill the fuel bowl before starting the engine 👍🙂
Thanks, filter plugged on me coming across wyoming. Was able to change in 10 minutes after watching video.
Awesome happy to help.. bad diesel will do that or truck stops that have water getting in there diesel storage tanks
Did your truck stall while driving?
@@stevenwilson7961 yup, skipping, stuttering, then loss power on hills
Thanks, watched your video n changed my full filter. No problems 😊
Good to hear 👍
Thank you it did help me
Loosen the fill cap to lower the fuel level. You only want an inch above the retaining ring. As the filter plugs the level will go up and then change when it reaches the top of the label.
yep..
Good stuff bro
Thanks 😀
Grácias güero, me ayudo mucho
Great video. 2 things I’d like to share.
1. The two tabs on the inner most part of your wrench are for the cap.
2. As long as the fuel level does not fall below the level of the lines you do not need to add fuel after changing the filter cartridge.
Don't want to chance it with the level not worth the pain to prime if level slips below
@@MakeMoneyTrucking it won’t. Trust me.
And YES OMG the DD13/15 are a NIGHTMARE. You have to have 70psi. That’s the trick to it. But always remember you’ve won when you see the fuel returning in the right tank!!!! Shine your flash light in the right tabk and when you see the “ripples” or “waves” you know the system is fully primed.
I was shown to completely empty it, than top off the area with fresh diesel fuel, once the filter is removed. Install new filter, replace all orings, place the cover back on, and top the rest of the way with more fresh diesel. Haven't run into air in the system yet. My question for this filter system, is where is it separating the water? Because water is heavier than most fuels, so wouldn't the water be at the bottom of the filter, and flowing back into the system?
Ty
Sometimes old fuel hoses release fine black residue from inside then the filter catches it before it reaches the pump. Also a clogged fuel filter will cause low engine power. A clogged fuel filter could make one fuel tank to be empty and the other fuel tank to have all the fuel.
Good to know 👍
Thank you very much for this video. I have a question. Is the Davco vent cap wrench you are using 6 inches or 8 inches? Which one should I buy? my truck is 2020 freightliner Cascadia DD13
Gang
What size is that davco wrench?
I've been having a problem with mine.
I've changed these many times. Usually the fuel will be right at the bottom of the globe but still visible when it's new and then rises as it gets dirty.
Every time I change the filter on this truck, it will suck it down to where you can't see fuel. I will keep adding more because I'm afraid of it suckin air and eventually after a week or 2 of doing that it will start to work normal.
Air leaking around orings, are you using all 3 and getting it snug
@@nv3217 I will check this thoroughly. I've never had that problem on other trucks with the same separator but maybe there is something wrong with the globe or the bottom part that is keeping the o-ring from seating. I will clean and inspect everything.
did you ever fixed it? im having the same problem right now
@@antoniocastro7500 not really. It still does this for the first week or so after a new filter
Hey sir, I noticed your fuel filter is pretty dark/bkack just like mine right now. Have you noticed that may be bacteria in the tanks. I am trying to get this dark color of my fuel and put a lot of additives and it still getting dark. So I started thinking it may be problem with the injectors leaving some oil back to the tanks?
I'm not sure I do not have that truck anymore and never really noticed it until you pointed it out. The injectors might be causing it but man if the truck runs good just keep running it I wouldn't tear into it unless something major isn't feeling or running right. I think mine just got darker over the 6 year period I owned the truck never concerned me or affected how the truck ran 👍
@@MakeMoneyTrucking it clogged the filter and I change already 7-8 filters for the past 25k miles ! This is where my interest come from- the bacteria in the filter sucks! Thanks man as always stay safe out there!
@@camaros68ful oh ok ya thats not normal you most likely got bad full somewhere
Is there an approximate time you should idle for?
Just a few minutes to make sure it doesn't die from no fuel flow
Wrong you can take the tap completely out and empty the fuel completely out is no air going in the system
That's how I was tought and told how to do it and it's worked for me so far many many fuel filrlter changes so far no issues
I do u get rid of the sediment on the bottom of the housing?
