50 words is overall a very visceral, atmospheric album, eerie at times. The main vocal on this track is actually Bertie, Kate's son!! He couldn't have been more than 8 or 9 years old. Incredible..

Hi and thanks for this reaction to a song that doesn't often feature on reaction videos. 'Snowflake' is the opening track for the Kate Bush album '50 Words For Snow' (her most recent original album) and all of the songs on it have some connection to winter and she gives a cold, stripped bare feel to the entire album - like looking out the window in the dead of winter, or sitting in a cabin on the very outer edge of the forest with only the tundra in front of us.
This song is a duet with her son, Bertie, and it was really written for him to sing. She said of it:
"When I wrote the song it was something that I wrote specifically for him and for his voice, and I guess there was a very strong parallel in my mind between the idea of this transient little snowflake and the fact that Bertie at this point… still has a really beautiful high, pure voice which soon he will lose… there seems to be this sort of link between the brief time that his voice will be like this and the brevity of the snowflake. I think his performance on this is really powerful, and obviously I’m quite biased because I’m his mother. But it’s interesting how many people have reacted so powerfully to his performance, it’s, you know, I think it’s really something."
Bertie sings the part of the snowflake as it falls to the earth and there are times when he does sound quite a bit like his mother. I have always really liked this song. Kate takes the (unusual for most famous singers) decision to almost relegate herself to the role of backing vocalist, something she does again on the title track of this album, where she gives the lead part to Stephen Fry.
In Snowflake Kate sings to her son that in this very loud world - keep falling and I will find you. Snowflakes are formed to fall to the earth and she tells him to do what he is formed to do and she will always find him. There is another sense to it as well which is that no matter how long or how far he falls, she will always find him. There is a really stark beauty about this song.
This album also includes her duet with Elton John, as well her song about the Yeti/abominable snowman and it also includes 'Misty' her 13 1/2 minute epic song about a snowman visiting her bedroom at night to make love to her only to melt away in her hands, leaving her utterly bereft, calling out for him into the dark night.
Thanks again for a reaction video to a song that most video reactors miss out on.

Oh my goodness thank you for sharing all of that! That is so cool. I love that she’s talking about that child voice that changes so quickly and there’s this window of time that if you don’t capture it, you’ll never hear it again. I mean that’s true for all voices, but I hadn’t really thought about it in that way before. Oh my gosh I love that so much. I think I’m hearing the voice but Yes he sounds a lot like his mother.
Thank you for your clarification. This is really great.

Thanks. Great reaction to Kate Bush. A very unique song and album. Song is called Snowflake and It’s from the album “50 words for Snow” which is also a song on the album too. The singing and high part was actually sung by her son Birdie. Kate just sings the chorus part “The world is so loud”. This song was written from the perspective of a Snowflake falling to the earth and was written for her son birdie which I think was about 10 or 11 at the time. Fabulous song. I play it a lot when I just need some peace and tranquility. Especially in a loud World. The Chronicles of the snow globe was a series of videos from this particular album which feature 1 song each. The songs tend to be longer that a regular single. Elton John sings with her one of them. More to come. Thanks!!!

Thanks Judy. Well -- you've done it. Jumped right in to the deep end. Very few reaction channels take that plunge. Her later work for me is by far her best work. Beautiful themed dreamscape albums. She takes you along on her journeys of exploration. Hope you do more of this end of the pool. "Kate Bush - Prelude / Prologue" ----> czcams.com/video/Um8tzB0saeM/video.html would be great.

The whole album ("50 Words for Snow") is just fantastic. In my personal top 3 allthough many people seemed to see it as boring (😳) or maybe too slow. The next song, "Lake Tahoe", for me, is her best song ever. So poetic, profound and moving. It makes you feel you're IN the song.To be listened with headphones for a magical effect when you can barely hear this raven cry... Nobody tells ghost stories like Kate Bush!👍
