Most-accurate drum vlogging, ever. Your collection reminds me of when I worked at a music store in Michigan (Huber & Breese Music), they had boxes of the older "auxiliary percussion" items for percussion ensemble bands, and they're so high-quality because they're still used today! Also - New Beat Cymbals, etc. Great stuff. I wish I didn't sell some of my older stuff!

Thank you for sharing this great content. It’s really nice to see the life of a session drummer depicted so clearly. I work in Nashville and I am just starting to work on big enough projects where cartage would be an option. How do you go about setting that up? Do you roll that into your fee or bill separately? Thanks again for the great stuff. I am definitely going to be adding to my perc collection after seeing this haha
Thanks man! I work with Angel City Drum Works here in LA. They are one of a few cartage/drum tech companies in town. Basically, I call them and say “hey, I’ve got a session on such and such date at this studio at this time.” They work very closely with all the studios in town with delivery, set-up, teching, rentals, etc, so it makes the whole process very seamless. They will bill the client separately. It’s really the best way to go b/c A) I don’t own a giant van to haul all my stuff around in; B) if I had to haul it all around by myself and then set it all up and then do an 8-10 hour session and then tear it all down and load it all out I’m not sure I’d make it; C) our job is to give our full attention/energy to the music we’re recording, so you’ve got to be fresh and ready to work. If you’ve just spent 3 hours loading in/setting up by yourself you’re probably not going to be in the right headspace to serve the music. Anyway, hope this helps!
Great video, real fun to see. Are those Yamaha Quartz Grey 14x8 snare and 18" bass drum I see there on the shelf part of the legendary Erskine kit? If so, did he have lot of drum sizes with that kit? After all the hours watching this kit on his old VHS tapes it would be real fun to hear the whole story of the kit?
Thanks! The 18” bass drum was part of his kit. I got another quartz grey RC in slightly different sizes from another great session drummer in town that came with the 14x8 from the same era.
@@JakeReedmusic Nice, I had a QG RC kit back in the day that I bought new in 1987 and then little later got the Erskine 14x4 1. signature snare. Miss that one :) Perhaps your QGs should get a special video, legendary drums :)

Thanks! It took about an hour to setup and get sounds. Usually everything is setup ahead of time, but since there was a morning session before us we had to start from zero.
very very good video :) i know you werent engineering, but with other videoes ive seen you use the sennheiser md441 a fair few times. what are your thoughts on it, worth the hype? debating getting one since my uni studios dont have any, and i want to have a more versatile dynamic mic choice than a 7b or 57/58
