      Dude this is so crazy. We must be spirit brothers from across the country. I deaden my drums exactly the same way for this kind of vibe, I just use lil dollar tree clips on the rim for the folded bandana thing instead of gaff tape
      Got to work with Darryl in Nashville at RCA A. He’s a master. Love your vids, they inspire me a to keep pursuing the craft. You’re content helps is educational and makes me feel like I’m on the right path with my session stuff. Thank you

      what I thought

  • @1ntuition662
    @1ntuition662 Před 8 měsíci +14

    First of all, Jake Reeds drumming in this video, every note he plays, every beat, sounds like a record. Like music.
    Social media is very visual and so information on music is often quite biassed toward what "looks" right. Plus most drum and engineering industry's marketing advertorials are not exactly focussed on offering practical solutions that serve the music but rather on creating material desires and thus increasing their sales.I have been playing and recordings for a few decades, and everything Jake says is gold. All you need is a few mics, decent drums and really use your ears. Being a really, really killing drummer like him may help.

    Jake and Darrell you guys are a God sent! What a education all in a few minutes. Who’s to question you guys techniques? At the end of the day it’s how everything sounds in the whole contents of the mix .WTH those tubs sound great without the other instruments. It would be nice to hear exactly how they sound in a mix. Maybe next time guys. Keep up the good work and have a great and blessed holiday season.

      I agree, never cared much for the cardboard sound. But even hits like Yvonne Ellimans "If I can't have you" (James Gadson on Drums) or Ringos "Come together" had more life😛. They weren't lying .Truly "dead drums" ugh 🤮 🤣😂🤣 Great mic's though.

    All these sounds remind me of Richie Hayward's sounds on the Last Record Album ... Particularly the little solo at the end of Day or Night where he does his little nod to the Purdie shuffle and N'awlins all in under 2 minutes ... the tom sounds are just like that ... then along came gated f**king reverb and machines

    I'm glad Jake stuck to his guns because it's out of their comfort zone so I can understand it's awkward for them but he's in his zone , so if this isn't your thing then let somebody who's thing it is run the show!

    Its would be intereting to hear from people who recorded in the 70's, did they do all this stuff to get the similar sound or was it just concert toms and old heads. Were they using the internal dampers that most drums had back then?

    >Supposedly demonstrating the sound of a kit in a live room
    >Effectively using only the close mics in the mix
    >Not even show what room mike sounds like soloed
    Why? Best sound in the video comes from camera's mic during the setup when you can actually hear the beautiful room (for instance, 9:35, 10:34, 11:30). I just don't get it.
