I love the Titanic comment, "If she'd have loved him she would have moved over." I think Tommy has a wicked sense of humor as well and he seems to be one of those guys, if you ask him a question he makes an effort to give a real answer and not a Hollywood answer. I really respect that about him. He's a bloody brilliant actor.

In 2012, MythBusters did a test and they concluded that the door could have held them both... if they'd used Rose's lifejacket as a flotation device a la McGyver (i.e. tie it underneath the board to help with its buoyancy). But that requires presence of mind, which most people don't have in a crisis, especially if they're in sub-freezing waters. Also, remember, the MythBusters people were able to come to this conclusion by trial and error and several attempts that requires time, which Jack and Rose did not have.
He's a great guy in real life, he has family in the area of Yorkshire where I live, so I know of him quite well.
When I saw the movie I thought the same, I mean the door was big enough for both of them.

She didn't let him go easily. They held hands for a while, while they floated there (she on the door, he in the water). Then the boat finally came and she tried waking him. When he wouldn't and she realized he had frozen to death, she lay back down to die with him, but then she remembered her promise to him to never let go of the promise to survive. Then that's when she let him go, physically. People misremember this movie to suit their own agenda.
