    I'm on week 2 of owning my 80
    I completed engine maintenance/ assessment. I'm in the process now of a complete cooling system overhaul everything new. Next is lift and tires. After talking to Wit's end they encouraged me to go with the caster correction plates instead of bushings.
    my question is I assume by this video your of the same mindset caster correction plates are better than caster correction bushings?

    • @OTRAMM
      @OTRAMM  Před 5 lety +2

      For the ~2" lifts I usually use bushings. For the taller lifts we use plates. I love everything Joey at Wit's End sells except the caster plates. His style requires a bunch of hard to drill holes. The style metaltech and I think Slee sells are much easier to install.

    Ryan, informative video. A few questions; caster correction plates and caster correction bushings do exactly the same the same thing, correct? I am planning to put arb 2861 in the front and arb 2863 in the back of my fzj80. Will I need caster correction plates or bushings for these spring lengths? What is the threshold in spring length after which you will need to correct the caster?

    • @OTRAMM

      It depends on how much lift. Once you get around 2" you get to where you'll start needing upper control arms to get the specs right.

    • @OTRAMM

      I didn't adjust it. You can get close by raising the axle end of the bracket the same amount as the lift. To do it the proper way you need a special set of pressure gauges.

    • @OTRAMM
      @OTRAMM  Před 3 lety

      The new bolt goes through the part of the mount that's cut off. The reinforcement makes it the proper width again.

    • @METALTOTHEPEDALx1M
      @METALTOTHEPEDALx1M Před 3 lety

      @@OTRAMM the set of plates that I have are from metaltech and the washers on them are bigger and are shaped differently so they want you to grind off or cut a lot more than you're showing. I was thinking about grinding off about half of the welded washer so I wont have to cut as much from the control arm post on the diff or just remove the welded washers completely and drill a bit more than half a hole on the diff so the bolt can go through.

    • @OTRAMM
      @OTRAMM  Před 3 lety

      I'd follow metaltechs instructions. When you drill the mount you don't end up with enough metal. The reinforcement washers strengthen everything back up.

      You need to watch the steering while someone moves the steering wheel back and forth to see where the play is. Replace what's loose. If the steering box is loose there is some adjustment but you're usually better to just get it rebuilt.
