She's perfectly on point with the music, unparalleled spills. She was for an unprecedented length of time a champion/winner the only reason she never hit Olympic gold was those compulsory figures. Imagine Denise skating in 2022! Denise is the GOAT!
I turned on ABC Sports one Saturday in January of 1989 , and this is what was on. I knew she was flawless but this one blew me away ! I literally wore out the vhs tape upon which Denise was taped. And now it's back ! Thank you so much.
Simply the best female skater ever! She could easily have won 5 Olympic gold medals if only compulsory (school figures) hadn't be there. (She was fourth in 1980). 1984 and 1988 she could easily beat Katharina Witt! Also in 1992 and 1994 I don't see any female skater who could do what Denise was able to do! :D
@@quiddy Come on! Kristi and Midori only beat Denise from time to time! Denise Biellmann won 11 (!) Pro World Championships. In the Pro circle it wasn't about all triple (though Denise had it all - see World Championship 1981)! Technical Denise was by far better than Kristi and even Midori not to speak about her art! :P P.S.: What was Denise doing here (triple Salchov and Toe Loop)! You should know what you're writing about! :D
MusikPiratCH Deniese won until Kristi came and then she, along with every other skater before her (Witt, Trenary, et al), played second fiddle to Kristi (and Midori briefly before she was forced to return to amateur status in 1995) from then on. There’s nothing that Denise could do in her program to ever outscore Kristi. And yes, it’s all about the triples. If no one falls on their butt, the skater who hits the hardest triples will always prevail over the one who has the easier triples, regardless of how much she knots herself silly doing the biellman spin.
MusikPiratCH I know what I’m talking about. Yes she did the salchow and toe loop, the 2 easiest triples. Hahah. Kristi had the lutz, flip, loop-the 3 of the most difficult jumps-only Midori had the slight edge with the triple Axel. Kristi is more technical than Deniese. As evidence, Kristi never lost to Denise in any of the competitions where both participated. And, to top it off, Kristi is the only one who had ever scored a perfect 10 straight across the board in a technical program in the HISTORY OF THE WORLD PRO CHAMPIONSHIPS HELD IN LANDOVER MARYLAND, when she skated her debut entry in 1992 to the music of Chopin. That has never been replicated and never will be. The program was perfection. Not even Midori the following year , who landed a triple Axel, lutz, 3t-3t could match the feat. So you still think I should know what I’m talking about? Maybe you’re the one who needs to get out of the 1980’s rock you crawled out of and get updated on who’s who in figure skating
Denise Biellman is:
"The Queen of Figure Skating".
What a skater ! What a woman ! What an artist !!!

BUT WHY isn't Denise's name a household word in figure skating?
Denise was a Strong jumper/spinner which is important. But, her artistry & creativity wasn't as expressive or Charismatic as some of her Competitors.

This event was held for 13 year between 1985 - 1998.Denise competed 11 of the 13 years. She won 5, place second 4 times and third 2 times.

Um Kristi and Midori can and did beat her in the pros. Deniese does not have a triple flip, lutz, or loop. Kristi and Midori do

Denise is worth every penny
Ah, she pumped up the volume with her megahertz program.
It's okay, Jonathan . I saw the show in '89 and it was in Paris . They did a profile on street artists and things, sort of a theme.
40,000 dollars in 1988 was too much money.
