    Your process is second to none! It’s the small details that makes all the difference. I watch a lot of builders on CZcams, but I’ve yet to find another person that compares to your precision. It’s 100% the reason Skunk Works will be my engine of choice for my 2016 Streetbob. Gotta get my Shovelhead finished and sold to fund one of these epic builds. But it’s coming soon!

    Amazing work... there's many shops that offer performance and machine packages but there's only a few who go about this like you do.. this is why your builds stay together..I've got friends who had a really good mechanic build their 96s into 107s and they didn't last longer than 40k miles before breaking the crank or busting rings etc

      More to come! Thank you sir. Many videos in the works now. If we set up a camera and just dumped footage, it would be easier. to set up proper lighting, audio, multiple cameras, then editing is what takes so long. On average for our "cleaner" looking videos, it takes up to 1.5 hours to produce 1 minute of video. I would like to release at least 2 a week...just a matter of balancing time working for our customers, family, etc.

    Have you ever seen a twin cam case fail in any sort of way, right there in the center where the new case bolt goes through? The reason I’m asking is because I’m considering having my spare 96” twin cam case bored out for larger cylinders. I’d like to go as big as possible without causing any problems with the case from boring it out too big.

    Are these the cylinders that come with your power packages? I was planning on sending my bottom end to darkhorse, to do the crank and machine the cases for a 4 1/8”. But now I’ve been leaning towards just going with the 4 5/8” stroke crank and case service you provide, being that I will be ordering pistons and cylinders from you for the top end. Your word is gospel and I’d be honored to have a motor blueprinted by you. I ride with a few people who money isn’t really a issue for, that’s not the case for me unfortunately, but I always tell them that They are the money guys, And that’s great I wish I was a money guy but I happen to be the motorcycle guy and I’ll be damned after all the hours of work and research that I do that I get beat on a motorcycle by a money guy with a crate 120r or 143x!

    • @KevinBaxter
      @KevinBaxter  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks for the kind words and support sir! The process would be the same regardless of stroke however, depending on piston choice (like ours), on a 4 5/8 the case would require an extra counterbore to clear the piston skirts as they extend below the cyl base a little bit. We spec every crank for our builds and Darkhorse does them for us...they can also do case boring as well and set up your bottom end. If you would like for us to do it, I can spec and order a Darkhorse crank for you, and do what you saw here...plus timken etc. If the project is time sensitive, they would be able to get it done quicker than I most likely...we are swamped.

    Great content. Just had my 103 bored to fit the S&S 124. Noticed a bit of a leak possibly coming from where the cases split? Could that be the base gasket?
    Thanks.

  • @magic4221

    Assuming you decked cases pre bore to equal deck level for bore. Otherwise when you adjusted Bridgeport "Y" axis cylinders could be non aligned with each other?

    • @KevinBaxter
      @KevinBaxter  Před 2 lety

      Hey Steve...i believe i understand your question...having to deck the case on one cyl but not the other? You are limited by how deep you can go to not get into the case dowels. of course i want to remove as little material as possible to maintain case integrity. i also want my final cylinder height to be equal and stock. This doesnt mean you have to deck both cylinders if only one requires it. That said, if a case was bad enough that it was of concern, Cometic will make custom base and head gaskets for us, so any imbalance of height could be accounted for with a thicker gasket on one cyl vs the other. in the end, if the cyl/piston clearance is the same, the comp ratio will be the same as well.

    how many have you had to deck the cases for the base gasket . i had an 07 that had a 110 kit put in and it ate base gaskets like popcorn on the rear cyl . harley kept telling me it was my fault driving it too hard ended up selling it .

    • @KevinBaxter
      @KevinBaxter  Před 2 lety +3

      i would say 25% of the time are they bad enough to require some decking or touch up. None of them are perfect however, a base gasket with a very small amount of aviation flange sealer works great. heat, crankcase pressure, overtorquing heads, etc...many causes and hard to say without looking at it.

    What should the piston to cylinder clearance be?

    • @KevinBaxter
      @KevinBaxter  Před 2 lety +1

      that is determined by the piston type, manuf and bore size. most forged pistons used in HD require .0025 but check with the manuf first. Standard cast are less and hypereutectic can be even less.
