I watched one of the old Milan vs Inter games, and it's interesting because they make mistakes and lose possession, but it wasn't as big of a deal as it is now. They'd try a long ball, lose possession, defend, then restart. They didn't dominate possession in the same way modern teams do. It's like they knew the ball would ping pong around, so losing it wasn't a big deal, which also meant that their skills had to be so good because if the ball dropped to them, their first-touch passing had to be on point. Watching Seedorf and Ambrosini shift their weight with little one-touch outside-foot combinations is a sight to behold. Whereas when Milan lose the ball now, or if it's ping ponging around, sometimes it feels like we have zero idea of what to do, and cannot control our one-touch passes at all.

Roma has been a huge slow decline for past 10-12 years. They fucked up with treatment of Totti. The stadio that never got built. Should kept F. Eubusio as coach. Selling of Salah, Allisson. etc….
Roma have finished 2nd place 9 times where they should have won scudetto at least 4 of those seasons.

Whoever you are…thank you for this comment. Finally someone gets it. They fucked up the transition from Totti era. Look back at those last years with Totti, Gervinho, Salah, Pjanic, Radja, etc. We have been absolutely awful since EDF sacking and Sabatini exit. The Portuguese obsession in Management and Sporting departments has been our downfall. Look at Inter and Juve. Italian coaches and Sporting directors. Napoli and Milan before this season, Italian coaches and Sporting Directors. Wake up Roma.

The reality of the situation at Roma is getting serious. Friedkins have a very large wage budget but can’t invest in new players coming in. I expect a MASSIVE clear out at Roma this summer. They will have a very hard time attracting top level talent. But I wouldn’t of FIRED MOURIHNO. It seems since Pinto is leaving in February, might as well start the clear out now.

  • @xTonzzz

People are blinded by the europa final and the conference league cup win. In two seasons he has won 4 times against the top 6 out of 24 times. There is a general theme you get when Roma plays even the likes of Fiorentina/ Atalanta/ Bologna that we are not going to dominate and win the game and there are far too many low league teams who play better more positive football than Roma. Was it the lack of quality players? I don't personally think so. They are not the best players in the world but there have been worse Roma teams who have done better and they are more than capable of playing football. Under mourinho it is clear that he wished to defend against the top 6 and how many times did we see roma chasing a game until the last minute in the last 3 years? He is a great coach and a proven winner but it is clear he was unable to get the best out of Roma in his time. Even considering the FFP limitations with signings, the injuries that built up they are far better then what they have been.

That's BS. PL sacked Mourinho (many times) as well as Ancelotti, Conte, Mancini, Ranieri, Pochettino, Bielsa, Tuchel and many more great managers in the past but it's still the best league in the world. When SA was at its peak, clubs like Juventus and Inter changed coaches every 6 months. It's a part of the job, you know. Serie A has much bigger and greater problems: incapability to attract large investors and biggest stars, poor infrastructure, half-empty stadiums, weak marketing strategy, corruption, racism...

I completely agree with Mike. Mourinho underperformed with an overpaid team.
Mourinho is definitely past his prime and he did the same thing at Roma that he did at several previous clubs. He got his team to spend lots of money on players that he likes. Then he won a smaller trophy and paraded it around as if he won the champions league.
I don’t dislike Mourinho as a person, but his Roma team played awful football. And considering the talent they have, they could be playing much better.

Mourinho doesn't make his team play football but rugby.
And this leads to no player being valued to be resold at a high price.
He was hired to bring Roma back to the champions (fourth place at least in the championship) and he failed and got worse and worse.
Mourinho is a finished coach that nobody wanted (in the summer he proposed himself at Psg and Chelsea and of course they rejected).
And the team has players to play better, better roster than Fiorentina Lazio Bologna Atalanta.
Many shameful matches played like the one against Cremonese in the Coppa Italia last year, with the servette and the two matches against Slavia Praga this year in the Europa League, the matches with Bodo Glimt in the Conference League

Personally I don't think the sacking is too harsh. Roma have been dreadful in the league under Mourinho. They used to qualify for UCL almost every year or every other year. Now they finish 6th, 7th, etc and aren't even close. They are currently 9th.
MAYBE had they actually won the Europa League Mourihno would have more credit in the bank. But they didn't. And with all due respect winning the Conference League is pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things especially give the fact that the majority of clubs in that competition are much smaller than Roma. Their rivals Lazio have also finished above them every season under Mourinho which doesn't help his cause. Their squad is too good to be lingering in 9th place as well. Lukaku, Dybala, Pellegrini, Paredes, Renato Sanches, Spinazzola, Mancini, Abraham, Llorente, etc. Not saying they should be champions but fighting for top 4 is a must. Add to this the generally unattractive brand of football they display and it all adds up to a need to shake things up. Things were going nowhere under Mourinho.

The consistent outbursts and red cards(to me) is what sent it over the edge. Getting suspended, whether justified or not, before BIG matches was becoming problematic. I think what happened is the ownership gave him several warnings and now had to put their foot down. (Look at Mou’s reaction after the last suspension against Atalanta)
Otherwise it’s very puzzling to me to sack him NOW. 5 points from 4th, Europa playoffs, and coming off a tough scheduling stretch. I’d rather Mourinho finish the season, with the squad and fans united, competing together. He was the attraction to our club, the fans were revitalized with him…but now we must go on.
