I have had the good fortune of studying at Harvard and MIT in the US and Cambridge in the UK, and I can tell you that Cambridge is definitely on par with Harvard and MIT.
Even crazier? Check this: The USA is this world's only remaining Superpower and, AND, to even begin, just BEGIN, to become a country, America literally, had to defeat an England that had Oxford and A MAGNA CARTE, and the HOLY BIBLE, and much more. The USA had to beat them TWICE. They had to do it without an Army, No Navy, no Marine Corp., no Coast Guards, WOW! They beat England First in 1776 and again in 1812 when we got our flag and National Anthem. To do it, they had to be SMART, scary-freaking-smart and ORGANIZED. Get to the Moon first? The USA did that. Get to Pluto first....CHECK! EInstein need a home? Come on over! What is that Einstein..." NAZIs building an A Bomb! " ??? USA builds one first and drops an atom bomb on a Japanese city using THE Uranium that the NAZI's had shipped to Japan just before Germany lost the war. The USA, had NO nuclear weapon program AT ALL...went from NOTHING to a bomb at warp speed and cornered the market. The nation just attracts brilliance like no other in history...I mean, we are all from somewhere else...truth. But the USA has something in its essence, its core, its fiber, that is constantly reinventing the American Dynamic and peeling back new layers of something old and or making something new or unheard of....fact. Democracy has people in it, so no, it MUST have flaws.....but the US rises despite its human-self-component. There is nothing BAD, to say about ANY other nation to justify the greatness of any one nation, but, The USA, has been gifted with something ....that...JUST WILL NOT ALLOW THAT NATION TO BE JUST ANOTHER NATION. They need to settle their difference and become ' united ' THEN....you WILL see something stupendously EXCEPTIONAL AND LIKE NO OTHER EVER. England was the world's Premier Superpower at the times 1776 and 1812...France was a close second but had no useful Navy, no, so they could only help the USA so much. Yet, truly, without France, there would be no USA today...! The USA and the American people, were truly an idea whose time came and nothing could say them nay....nothing. Now if we could just get them to stop killing each other and end the ethnic, european descendant, neanderthal, protestant, evangelical, build-a-wall, tax dodging-Panama-Papers, greed and hate....oh well....there is no paradise where there are humans!
Very true. The US has accomplished more in it's short time than us. I find it even funnier that Harvard and Yale are ranked consistently at #1 and #2 on these polls and still are 400-600 years younger than Oxford or Cambridge. The UK reached it height prior to WW2. The US has no ceiling though. The sky is the limit for them.
yes that is a very interesting major. I am doing that at uc berkley and I had to take ap biology and ap chemistry in high school to get prepered. i would also recommend that you do good in the SAT and take ap classes!
These rankings are ridiculous and pathetic-- and I say this as an American Ivy League graduate myself! The failure with "ranking" them internationally is that universities are structured differently in different countries and US states, yet the rankings stupidly give extra weight for the arbitrary set-up of (mainly) a few US and UK research universities. For ex: Across Europe, Japan, Korea, Canada, South America and even many US states, top research isn't done "on campus", instead it's done in industry labs or special institutes (like Max Planck institutes) where professors work and collaborate. But this research doesn't "count" since it's not technically "on campus"-- the Shanghai, Timer Higher Education and other rankings lists have failed to normalize for this factor, and thus arbitrarily "penalize" these countries and many US schools for a totally irrelevant reason! Also, many quality US public universities don't have their own medical or pharm school, instead they "team up" with med or pharm schools on separate campuses. Yet they, too, are falsely penalized for this on the lists since once again, their research isn't "on campus". It makes somewhat more sense to compare individual departments and their graduates, but the campus-wide university comparisons are totally laughable.
+MrViMichael bullshit. that's an elitist argument used by misinformed fools. Places like Harvard, Princeton, Yale... they offer MILLIONS in finiancal aid every year The only thing you need is perfect grades and ECs.
Cesar a. Flores V.
Also, these aren't arbitrary rankings. Some ranks use criteria like selectivity, retention, graduation rates etc, while some rank the scholarly work of faculty and alumni, or rank using reputation as rated by other academe. But all these rankings do come out to be the same, (Harvard, Yale, Princeton, UChicago, MIT, Stanford always come out as the top 10) lending some credence to the fact that these universities take in great students, and produce even greater ones...
International Student Olympiads are actually the only objective tool for comparing the competitiveness of university students at the global level. Unlike school education, there is no global student assessment system like PISA, ILSA or PIRLS. Ranking of universities by number of weighted wins at international student olympiads: 1. Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (Russia) - 13.40 points 2. University of Warsaw (Poland) - 12.06 3. Saint Petersburg State University (Russia) - 10.90 4. Lomonosov Moscow State University (Russia) - 10.65 5. ITMO University (Russia) - 9.50 6. University of Amsterdam (Netherlands) - 9.30 7. University of Zagreb (Croatia) - 8.90 8. Shanghai Jiao Tong University (China) - 8.53 9. Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (Ukraine) - 8.50 10. Jagiellonian University in Krakow (Poland) - 7.46 11. Novosibirsk State University (Russia) - 6.51 12. Comenius University Bratislava (Slovakia) - 6.40 13. National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE) (Russia) - 6.20 14. Charles University (Czech Republic) - 6.10 15. Ghent University (Belgium) - 6.00 When evaluating the success of students' performance at the Olympiads using a weighted score, not only the number of victories of students and student teams is taken into account, but also the level of competition at each of the Olympiads. The advantage is given to the universities that took part in the Olympiads with the widest country coverage. The largest Olympiad is the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC). It has the widest geographical coverage, with students from over 100 countries taking part. Over the past 10 years, universities from Russia have won this Olympiad and once won a university from China. MIPT, 2 times won prizes at the ICPC Programming Olympiad, and at the IMC Mathematical Olympiad for 5 years, its students received 38 awards. St. Petersburg State University, which took third place, has as many as 4 victories on ICPC for 5 years. The runner-up Warsaw University won prizes at ICPC all 5 years in a row. Of the 15 universities represented, only three do not have a single victory at the ICPC: the University of Amsterdam, Novosibirsk State University and Ghent University, however, the number of awards received by their students at the IMC is extremely high. Universities are the most successful in information technology and mathematics Olympiads, primarily ICPC and IMC: Moscow State University. M. V. Lomonosov, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, St. Petersburg State University (Russia); University of Amsterdam (Netherlands); Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (Ukraine); Ghent University (Belgium) and Zagreb University (Croatia). Universities most successful in natural sciences and engineering Olympiads: University of Toronto (Canada); Nanjing University and Xi'an Chiao University National University of Singapore; Georgia Institute of Technology and Washington University in St. Louis (USA); Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain) and University of Liverpool (UK). Students from the University of Singapore have also repeatedly won prizes in various international humanitarian Olympiads, and students from both Chinese universities have won The Mathematical Contest in Modeling Olympiad in mathematical modeling. The most stable position is occupied by Shanghai Jiaotong University (China), Warsaw University and Jagiellonian University (Poland) - students of these universities have repeatedly won awards both in the field of information technology and at mathematical and natural science Olympiads. If we consider the victories of students at international Olympiads on a national scale, it turns out that the most successful Olympiad university community in the USA, Germany and the UK - their universities have received awards in all four areas of knowledge over 5 years. Most of the universities in these countries, however, have victories in only one of the considered student Olympiads. The exceptions are Cambridge, Harvard and Pennsylvania universities - students of these universities have won awards at four different Olympiads in 5 years; University of Glasgow, UC Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Colorado at Boulder (winning three different Olympiads) and Yale University, which has won two Olympiads. Students from the universities of Singapore, Hong Kong, the Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Argentina and China became winners and prize-winners of Olympiads in three out of four areas, students from universities in another 18 countries - in two out of four.
Most developed countries have later post-master elite selection and moderately funded public universities or very few elite places as India or France. Cambridge, CalTech, Stanford and MIT are just excellent in all their subjects with significantly higher research budgets and industry tasks. A bachelor from the MIT is not really impressive if nothing follows up, but these universities are really much better than ours, in almost all aspects. In rare cases it still can be a dumb education bubble.
Whoever put this up isn't all that smart not to know there are other great universities elsewhere on this planet. It should read: Best English language universities.
Mary Foster These are the most prestigious universities in the world. I'm sure there are great uni's elsewhere that give students excellent opportunities and have great lecturers and professors, but the fact remains that the names of these institutions carry more international weight than any other. Perhaps a better title of this video would be "Most Prestigious/Acclaimed Universities in the world"
+john sialana Except they're not. Many US schools for ex. are left off this list because they don't have their "own" medical or pharm schools and collaborate with offsite med schools-- which brings down their rankings since the research and projects aren't technically "on campus". Even worse, a lot of the top tech research in the world is done in off-campus institutes like Max Planck Institutes in Germany or equivalents in Holland and France, yet again, this research doesn't "show up"-- even though Germany dominates in many of these fields! These rankings lists are worse than useless, they're misleading.
+stefan No, they absolutely are not, these sorts of lists use arbitrary and ridiculous reasons that have nothing to do with actual quality of research and teaching, for example whether research or grant money is "on campus" versus "off campus" (for example US universities that collaborate with medical schools on separate campuses, or German universities that collaborate with Max Planck Institutes off campus-- this research doesn't "count" in the rankings which is laughably misleading).
@justsomeguyman what rankings have you been reading? Cambridge consistently comes in the top 8 year on year. It has the greatest number of Nobel laureates in the world!
Wesrern religious and ethical systems have depended heavily on the idea of making each person more virtuous so that the society which consists of these people will function well of itself; on the other hand in the East it has been made much of to have correct human relationship so that regardless of the individual souls society will work satisfactorily as long as each person plays social role properly.
Well, John Harvard graduated from the University of Cambridge :)
I have had the good fortune of studying at Harvard and MIT in the US and Cambridge in the UK, and I can tell you that Cambridge is definitely on par with Harvard and MIT.
I'm actually mind-blown. The architecture of these Universities are amazing!
Thats almost the best part about them that derives inspiration. The rest is just stupid reputation and academic stress.
Cambridge, UCL or Stanford my targets for my Phd :)
Wish you all the very best 🙌🏻
You should go for Cambridge

Yeah, it's definitely Cambridge. Painful to say as an Oxford man but it takes the top spot!
MIT vs caltech vs Stanford
In astrophysics and/or nuclear physics. Someone pls give me an answer.
Anyone else who doesnt want to study in the United states or the uk?
Trollerbitch69 Exactly.
Me!!!!!
But why you don't want!!!
Urvashi Sharma me being a UK citizen can answer that.
1.High fees for locals and foreigners
2.Frequent attacks in the UK
3.Gun violence in the US
At least it's better than studying here in the Philippines
What soundtrack is this ?
can you please tell me the name of song...please..........

@justsomeguyman what rankings have you been reading? Cambridge consistently comes in the top 8 year on year. It has the greatest number of Nobel laureates in the world!
