Over AND under watering?! Man, feels like almost every plant issue is linked to those two things.
I feel youđ€Łđ€Ł I feel like I have a "the notebook" relationship with my plants.
Me "TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT!!"
Them "ITS NOT THAT SIMPLE!!"
Iâve felt like Iâve really been neglecting my plants lately but I think theyâre actually really enjoying drying out a ton đ
same! đ maybe that's why i'm seeing so much winter growth lol
same! đ maybe that's why i'm seeing so much winter growth lol
Be careful, over drying causes RR as well
i can't believe you bought a plant with root rot wow that's DEDICATION
i probably couldâve asked for a discount but my anxiety said â€ïžnoâ€ïž
DUDE THANK YOU for mentioning the fact they throw small roots into way bigger pots, most of my plants had to be repotted and if not they had to be saved đ§
it happens so often and it's so frustrating! đ€
This is one of the best videos I have come across for taking better care of house plants. Thanks.
Ugh, Iâm constantly dealing with root rot. My biggest question is when to water them again? Or do you propagate them in water immediately or let them callous out? Thanks! (My plants are Swedish ivy)
Hi Kat. I'm a "liker" and subscriber from Lake Charles, LA. I enjoy your most informative videos where you share your experience with all of us. I've been at this plant hobby thing for a while now and am familiar with it. On the surface, without seeing the roots, you may have no idea why your particular plant isn't doing so well. Only on removing from its pot do you discover this. You did a good job explaining it and I'm sure we've all experienced it at one time or another. I have to mark on my wall calendar what I've done on what date to keep up with it. This include fertilization. Keep up with the good information. This way, I don't have to do research (ugh!) on it and have to dig it out of books or the internet. Happy growing! đ
happy growing dale!! so nice of you to comment. thanks so much for all the support :)
This is really helpful! Wishing I had seen a bunch of your videos before making purchases but now I know haha. Love the thumbnail btw đ
thank you!! trying to make root rot a little fun somehow đ„Ž
Hi! That just happened to my pothos!!! The same, and because Iâm new in the plantâs world I didnât know what to do! Or what happened. Actually Iâm learning about every thing, things that for some people are just common sense, for me is new. My pothos is actually from
Costa farm đą I think she is recovering. But this is very helpful đđ»
im obsessed with your channelllll
thank u đ„șđ
Awesome review I probably killed around 10 plants last year from over watering because I was on lock down however I have replaced some of them now Im very very careful with how I water I look at my plants daily gosh if it wasn't for over watering I would probably have around 30 plants so yes watering can be detrimental
Thank you so much for this video! My spiderplant got rootrot and this is really helping!
so happy i could help a little! good luck!
Yet another fantastic video AND we got a feature from Meek **chefs kiss**
Finally got my hands on an exotica and the seller told me not to water or repot for 3 weeks. Turns out it was just a bunch of unrooted cuttings in an 8â pot, majority of them were rotted by the end of the first week. Wish I would have known to rescue it ASAP.
Also, you rock the heck out of a bandana! đ
Same...I bought a 6â hanging basket with âestablished rootsâ....pulled a few of them right out of the pot, no roots. Ah well. Saved most of them.
@@something.about.plants2495 why canât they just sell stuff to us as a bunch of cuttings đ€
@@user-iz1fv3ew6z right, that would be much simpler lol
YUP! so horrible how often this happens!! đ
Wow... thank you...your segment about watering gave me new insight.
Good morning!!! âïž Great video!!
thank you! good morning đ
insightful. my avacado tree hasnt been doing very well these passed few months but thought it was because of the season but turns out its root rot and its not savable since the main root was covered in it. atleast i know for next time, thanks plant lady!
there is something else, that i dont see many people talking about, my biggest secret is using mycorrhizae, it is a beneficial fungus that colonizes the roots and helps them a lot with the intake of nutrients and helps helps to absorb water, i really really recommend mycorrhizae,
interesting!! definitely havenât heard of this iâll look into it đ€
What is it??
Do you have any progress pictures/ videos of the plant? When you cut/separate the nodes for propagation would you treat them with peroxide as well prior to placement in water? I have an aglaonema bibidari and the leaves are wilting and going from a weird yellowish brown to spotted and then mushing off the stem, Iâm unsure what to do because I only water them every 2-3 weeks as needed; donât know if itâs caused by a bacterial problem or root rot. Also could you make a video on regular treatment/ waterings with peroxide. Iâve read that regular use is really good for plants and am unsure of the detailed process.
really helpful video, thank you!
so glad! đ
Does anyone think the hydrogen peroxide solution will still help if I canât get much of the pre-existing soil off? I have a pink syngonium thatâs really root bound and I think I caught the rot early cause the roots arenât squishy but are slightly brown.
That IS late-stage root rot. Many times stores overwater after the plant arrives. Nurseries generally do much, much better however the plants are much more expensive too. Of course, we all do our own root rot right at home sometimes when we overwater.......:)
Very helpful, thanks!
I have an atrium plant that my friend wants me to babysit. She had it in a glass bowl with just water. I cleaned off the dead roots and Iâm transplanting it into a larger ceramic pot with soil. How long do I keep using the peroxide mixture?
I repotted my fiddle leaf fig plant from a big pot to a smaller one. I cleaned the roots and replaced the soil but wasnât able to remove a lot of the previous soil that was entangled in the roots. Does this mean my plant will rot again?
Thank you for sharing my monstera adansonii has root rot right now, i washed it off with water but no hydrogen peroxide available .. is mineral water enough to treat them in a while? New friend here..
Hi! My philodendron minima that I purchased from a garden place has root rot, i repotted it but i feel like i didnt remove all the rotten roots, is that ok? As you said that it spreads? I dont want my plant to die :-(
Super helpful, thanks!
of course!
Quality content thank you â„ïž
um never have i thought that i would see lil huddy in a houseplant video đâ
same /:
Do you water it after re potting in smaller planter or wait a couple days?
Im gonna leave this right here
The formula is 1 cup water to 1TBS Hydrogen peroxide
Great video đ
thank you! đ
Not me having bought all my plants from lowes⊠and dealing with terrible gnats and root rot đđ fml!!
Great information, thank you

Nice video đ
So, I have a pothos that I bought from yokes (bad idea, I know) but once I got it home the leaves started turning blackish/ brown and wilting. I tried to do research but I was presented with so many things that could be and I couldnât find any pictures that looked like what was happening to my plant. Iâm new to plants and I would feel so bad if I let this guy die. Do you think that it could be root rot or could it possibly be bacterial infection?
I give up!!! Iâve been struggling for 90 min and still canât get it and you make it look so simple with great instructions but I just canât. đą
Thank you for your help
I think my maiden hair fern has root rot.... I donât know how to work with her roots as theyâre a lot finer than pothos by the looks of it. Any suggestions?
thanks for the awesome video
I have a blue star fern I'm trying to rescue from root rot (my mistake, I thought it was a kangaroo foot fern) and I could not get all the dead roots off. Its so riddled with it's old thick rooting system that I cannot get it all clean! So I did my best and I repotted in a smaller pot and hoping for the best, but ready for it go to plant heaven. Ferns are hard!!
ahhh fingers crossed!! yeah i had a heart leaf fern and killed her in a few months. pretty scarred from that lol
When you propogate is it with peroxide also?
How do you propagate a palm plant or elephant ear plant. I over watered both and they have root rot and smell? But I want to save them. Please help!
How can I kill the fungus in the pot that has root rot in? I would like to reuse the pot instead of throwing it away
Lol you are so gorgeous. Love all your vids. Helps me with my type of grows. Lol
The whole underwatering/overwatering thing drives me mad. So did I mess up my plant because I watered it too soon or not soon enough?? đ
Out of curiosity, if one of the causes for this bacteria/fungi to grow is lack of oxygen, would it not help to poke a hole from the top soil down near the root of the plants and put like a straw in it so there is constant supply of oxygen? just curious if this works?
Do you treat the new propagations with any hydrogen peroxide or do you just stick them in water?
i have that same plant and it just randomly started going limp after trying to learn how to care for it for almost 4 years. figured out its root rot and i need to recheck the roots cuz nothing helped from when i cut the roots about a week ago:(
Hey Kat :) I was wondering how root rot is spread from plant to plant. Is it just placing it near it? And also, I dont know if I am being over paranoid, but can you get new growth with a plant that has root rot? Thanks lovely x ;)
hi! root rot spreads with fungal spores. it won't spread to a plant by being near it, but will instead spread within the pot it started in. so, if you have multiple cuttings in a pot it can spread between those plants. the spores can continue to live on in the soil and pot though, which is why it's important to discard of the soil and thoroughly disinfect the pot before using it again!
@@GoodandPlanty Thank yu so much :))))) xxxxxx
@@Emma-jd8zt Good question and thanks for asking, I was wondering the same thing :)
Fungus gnats can spread it as well, your fingers, any tool you use and dont clean
@@GoodandPlanty do you have tips on how to properly disinfect a pot? I'm pretty sure I have an unhappy plant just from reusing a ceramic pot from a plant that didn't make it. P.S. Love the video. The plants being able to get root rot from underwatering then watering was such an aha moment. I think that's how I lost the plant that didn't make it.
So if my roots pop off my plant like that, it means it root rot?!?!! I've recently replanted a BUNCH of plants & tried my hardest to keep roots together đą I think I used wrong soil a bunch, so I'm willing to repot if this is the case
What about Root Rot from under watering?? Can you address that for RR??
Can I just clean out the pot it was in? Like soap water and bleach. Dry thoroughly and reuse???
thank you so so much Kat, my friend just gave me a plant with root rot because she thought i could save it, i hope i do
So my roots are yellow with a little brown, my dad watered it and it wilted. I can't find any roots that are soggy like some of those where so I'm gonna repot anyways so idk maybe I'm just being paranoid but it was wilted for 3 days now
What kind of soil do you recommend for house plants like pothos or snake plant?
definitely a chunky and airy one! meaning with additives like perlite/pumice.
@@GoodandPlanty thank you! :)
If the roots are smelly and the plants roots are brown and mushy does that mean theyâre starting to root?
is the smell from root rot toxic to inhale?
what would you do if it was a plant in a 20 inch pot? In my case a rather big plant (cordyline australis) standing outside and because of heavy rainfall it started to rot..
definitely harder! i would take it out of the pot and assess if it's salvageable. if there is enough healthy root left, cut the rot off and repot and water with the hydrogen peroxide mix.
@@GoodandPlanty I will try it - thank you!
So if you have to propagate them in water, should the water have a bit of hydrogen peroxide in it as well?
@@Flowersarecool. thank you.
I have a marble queen pothos that i bought from a seller i left it in its grower pot and let it get used to the new environment before repotting it into a slightly bigger plastic pot and I had a leaf that turned fully yellow a couple weeks later but felt healthy it would sometimes perk up when it was time to water it again but it just stayed yellow and i researched and it said it was root rot but the rest of the leaves have been fine no discoloration, no brown spots, no drooping no pests that i can see at least but that single leaf was bright yellowđ. I let my pothos plants completely dry out before waterings (i am new to plants so i still have much to learn) but I was and am still confused as to why just that single leaf turned yellow. I ended up cutting that leaf away because i was afraid whatever it was would spread to the entire plant.
Sometimes leaves just turn yellow because they are old and the rest of the plant is taking the energy from the leave that turned yellow
If it's just one leaf or two there's not need to panic! It's just the life cycle of leaves, they don't live forever
Eff, I reused the soil. Now I think Iâm going to repot my scindapsus pictus. Itâs in a 4inch pot so not a huge loss.
it's all a learning process! who knows, maybe the plant will be okay
What about soaking the cuttings in a weak very diluted hydrogen peroxide solution before replanting?
personally i've never tried this! i think i have heard of people doing this before though.
Yes just a little you don't have to let it soak in it you can do dip method a couple of times more dirt will come off to I've been researching it and have done it just don't know when to water again
Will the thin roots after you pull out a rot part grow? Or should I cut the whole thing out is better
My issue is whenever I watered the roots and clipped off the rotted roots to my previous avocado trees they would always end up dying and the leaves would drop and die
what % hydrogen peroxide? mine is3%
Nice infermation beauty lookđ
*me trying to use this to propagate a root rotted cat palm*

I do not understand why you trash the sellers of these plants. They buy from nurseries. So if you dont like the way they are planted dont blame them.
Costa Farms is a pretty bad company!
@@GoodandPlanty
Is that a nursery that sells to your local store? I have never heard of them but I sure would complain. People may be thinking they did something wrong and dont complain.
Stop playing with your hair while doing a review.! Its not facebook . !

It's her CZcams!!! She can do whatever she wants. Dont like it don't watch!
Graeme Couch, you seem like the type of person who looks for the bad in things, or just straight up creates something negative. I'm going to try and put things into perspective for you a little bit. You're comment was not only completely unnecessary and rude, but you also exposed your incompetence of being able to understand basic/common knowledge. I mean.... How is this video a review exactly? What product is being reviewed? Oh thats right, it wasn't one, it was a super sweet, caring fellow human posting a video WITH THE SOLE PURPOSE OF HELPING OTHERS. A trait you clearly lack.
Anyways maybe try to stop telling people what they should or shouldn't, and can or can't do on their own page. "This isn't facebook".
This isnât even a âreviewâ lol
