  • NBA legend and Hall of Famer, Kobe Bryant talks about the moment in his career where he failed drastically. He air balled four times against the Utah Jazz in Game 5 of the 1997 NBA Playoffs.
    Excerpt from Wikipedia about the Utah Jazz:
    The Utah Jazz are an American professional basketball team based in Salt Lake City. The Jazz compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league's Western Conference, Northwest Division. Since the 1991-92 season, the team has played its home games at Vivint Arena. The franchise began play as an expansion team in the 1974-75 season as the New Orleans Jazz (as a tribute to New Orleans' history of originating jazz music). The Jazz relocated to Salt Lake City prior to the 1979-80 season.
    The Jazz were one of the least successful teams in the league in their early years. Although 10 seasons elapsed before the Jazz qualified for their first playoff appearance in 1984, they did not miss the playoffs again until 2004. During the late 1980s, John Stockton and Karl Malone arose as the franchise players for the team and formed one of the most famed pick and roll duos in NBA history. Led by coach Jerry Sloan, who took over from Frank Layden in 1988, they became one of the powerhouse teams of the 1990s, culminating in two NBA Finals appearances in 1997 and 1998, where they lost both times to the Chicago Bulls, led by Michael Jordan.
    Both Stockton and Malone moved on in 2003. After missing the playoffs for three consecutive seasons the Jazz returned to prominence under the on-court leadership of point guard Deron Williams. However, partway through the 2010-11 season, the Jazz began restructuring after Sloan's retirement and Williams' trade to the New Jersey Nets. Quin Snyder was hired as head coach in June 2014. With the development of Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell into All-Stars, the Jazz launched themselves back into title contention, eventually earning the league's best regular season record in the 2020-21 season.

    I think it’s wild how people think the Mamba Mentality was developed during his career. That mentality was there ever since he was 13 years old and made a promise to himself that he was going to become one of the greatest players ever, and to never make excuses.

    • @qs4177
      @qs4177 Před rokem

      I always thought he was a selfish player (I loved him as a player but I wasn’t blind) and the Jazz game on that first shot just shows how selfish he was. That shot was never meant for him. Like MJ he didn’t really start playing real team ball until after Phil Jackson came on deck. Just look at Kobe’s game before and after Phil Jackson.

  • @AngeloRyanMaalat
    @AngeloRyanMaalat Před rokem +26

    I never thought about that, I just assumed he got mad at himself and went into the gym.
    But he broke down why he failed and why those shots missed. And made a plan to correct it for the next.
    Like the mentality is like a science the more he talks about it. Not like a brute force, no mercy on yourself kind of thing like it's being perceived as. Sure it's tough training at the end of the day, but if training ain't tough you're not doing it right to begin with imo. Kobe just broke it down so everything had purpose to go along with the fire.

    Bro that's kinda interesting that he has that kind of mentality ever since he was only a child. I think family plays huge factor right here. If you teach your kids discipline, passion ,consistency, being awarded in return of work etc.. those kids are basically going to be special. I'm 18yrs old right now, I love my family more than anyone and anything but that's a fact that I didn't grow up like this. That is why, it took quite time for me to learn what is discipline, how to find passion and list goes on...
    Thanks to kobe though, I learned all those things. I live in Turkey, I learned english at the age of 15 and still improving in a every way I can. I always try to get better so it is what it is.

    Weight training. As a youngster, I had always thought building muscle would hinder my mobility and slow me down. But when I started weight training, it definitely enhanced my game. I had always had trouble scoring after grabbing an offensive rebound. Once I started weight training, I just powered my way up. Definitely helped. But I would advise against weight training and a very early age. Let your bones develop first.

    Kobe, air balls shots: develops a mentality so powerfully inspirational that the entire world knows the code name to describe a strong and dedicated work ethic.
    Lebron, air balls shot: pouts, looks at revs for foul, blames teammates.

      He was 18, the thought process was there, but the perspective was still forming...and never played that many games (which was 3X the amount of games he was used to playing) for him to understand that tangibly. He gained that piece of knowledge through that rough experience, adjusted to it, and from there, he never looked back.

    Anybody can't jack up so many shots til they hit some. Most players are not going to that not bc they are scared to take them, it just don't make sense when you got 4 other pros on the court. Kobe made the game about him. If the team wins so be it but he's going to take those ridiculous shots. Not cool
