- After a relaxing night at the Point of Ayre and a long lie in we take a short walk across the shingle to see the seals.
Back in Ramsay we enjoy a tasty lunch and stock up on supplies before heading back to the coast at Ayres National Nature Reserve.
We end the day with a tasty meal and a sunset stroll along Smeale Beach.

Hi everyone. We have learned since this film was uploaded that the ruins are in fact a Brine pumping station that used to be there. We often get told how to correctly pronounce place names and so you may hear us continue to get it wrong until later episodes. 😁👍
Getting place names wrong is probably a problem throughout the whole space time continuum, and always will be. Imagine the ET in the UFO hovering over Whales trying to makes sense of his travel map.
@@johnbastien3872 or even “Wales” unless you were being ironic…..lol. 👍😂🇮🇲
Thanks so much for a lovely video. I enjoyed it very much. Enjoy your dinner.
@@susenjarvis8281 thank you 🙂
Best video yet! Your channel has been become my go to when the day's news is too grim. A lovely reminder that nature and wildlife is still out there, full of beauty and wonder.
I stopped watching the news over a year ago now. It was badly affecting my mental health at the time so I opted out of that particular rat race. It has made a huge improvement on my outlook on life.
That fish and chips looked delicious 😋 another super vlog, loved watching the seals 😁 Lovely to see a couple so in love 🥰 holding hands as you walk into the sunset 🌅 What lovely memories you’re making x
Again, you captured our part of the Island perfectly.
Thanks Trevor, glad to hear that 🙂👍
The pasta looks lovely. I think I would add some handfulls of baby spinach leaves as a finishing touch.
That sounds good 😋👍
1) Stena Line is Swedish and calls on Liverpool with cars, trucks and cargo.
2) The Cod and chips looked amazing. Lucky you :-) Fresh cod is a real joy in life.
3) Cracked black pepper and some sea salt flakes would have been magic on that pasta dish.
A good three points there, thanks Ade 👍🙂
I've seen more of the island watching your videos than I have living here and I've been here 15 years. It's so easy to get wrapped up in every day life that you forget the beauty on your doorstep. Thank you for your wonderful videos! :)
And there’s plenty more to come! Thanks for watching 🙂
I'm so jell of you living there would love to come back we lived in Castletown till me mum Whent to Liverpool for a lil holiday way back in 78 79 iv longed to come back would love to xx
A very relaxing watch this one, we loved watching the seals and that shot walking along the beach was the perfect ending 👍
That was a good day there. Went a bit downhill the following day coming up in the next episode 😱👍
I love the seals. Just the way they look at you and blink their eyes. They look so sweet. I also love the pebbles that you were walking on at the beach area. They look so smooth and uniform. The close-up of your Charlie Brown's face was great. You've got a beautiful wife there Ken. One more question about the chicken pasta meal - what did she saute with the onions? I didn't catch the word. The meal looked great and I really enjoy that you go into details about what you are cooking. Simple but it looked so tasty. Thanks for another great video.
Thanks for watching Teri. That was olive oil for frying the onions 🙂
I love the fact that you realised we welcome anyone who takes the time to come and enjoy our beautiful island…..I wouldn’t recommend swimming in the sea till early September, when the waters around the IOM are typically at their warmest, not without a wet or dry suit anyway……👍😁🇮🇲
Sea swimming is not our strong point and we certainly don’t have room for wetsuits 😁
I would love to see a video on shopping for the van. A look at grocery shopping for recommendations for what work for can life and what doesn’t.
Great suggestion. Thanks Samantha 👍🙂
@@LifeistooshortCK I think I just miss going into Morrison’s or Tescos. We did 36 days in the UK and breakfast was pretty much in a grocery store each day.
Stena line ferry was possibly the Birkenhead to Belfast route. I used to travel on that weekly
Thanks Tony 🙂👍
Stena vessels pass close to either end of the island depending on tide and winds , usually from Liverpool to Belfast or Heysham to Belfast ……none of them would fit into the Harbour at Douglas , they are to long to manoeuvre in the restricted confines of the harbour,👍🇮🇲
Thanks for the info Andy. We thought it might be Belfast to Liverpool but it seemed to be heading in the wrong direction towards the north of the Isle of Man!
@@LifeistooshortCK I should edit that…….Seatruck run from Heysham to Belfast …..👍🇮🇲
What a lovely vid beach looked lovely you both looked so chilled there some lovely pic of the island that past dish looks yummie gonner try that with mushrooms added so simple to do as well xx
Thanks Nicola. Hope you enjoy the recipe 🙂
Smeale Beach looks awesome
It is indeed Julie 👍☺️
After watching your video I feel so relaxed😊 the drone shots where excellent👍thank you
Glad you enjoyed it Anita 😀
So enjoyed this episode. A pleasure to watch. I smile every time Ken mentions food!! Looking forward to the next one. Thankyou
Thanks Nic. Glad you enjoyed it 🙂👍
The greatest gift of film makers is in my opinion the ability to make the viewer feel like they are travelling with you. You both achieve this with wonderful regularity . Thank you.
Thanks Willie, that’s a great compliment 👍😀
This my favourite place of all. My ashes can be scattered here please. Thanks for the wonderful video. You two certainly know how to live life and share your love of it with those you love. Perfection! A lesson to all of us.
It seems the Isle of Man looks to be a very relaxing place to be. I do not enjoy crowded places just looks perfect. Carol, thank you for sharing the recipe it looks very tasty.
Isle of Man looks such a chilled out relaxing place. Certainly looks that way with your recent vlogs. Looks an amazing place to properly unwind & chill from the hustle n bustle of the mainland x
It is indeed Nadine. Much quieter than England and easy to get away from the crowds 🙂
Loved that desolate stopover at the start by the lighthouse ….that whole beach sequence at the start was brilliant ..
That was one of our favourite spots on the island 😀👍
So lovely and relaxing. thank you folks. Well, nighty night then. xx
Our pleasure Tina, hope you slept well ☺️
Hello another lovely video its so peaceful everywhere there seems to be very little traffic almost like going back in time , you both seemed very relaxed almost like taking a day off work . I look forward to the next video take care always both of you.
Glad you enjoyed it Shaun. We loved how quiet the roads were and how easy it was to park up in so many peaceful spots to enjoy the views. Best wishes ❤️
Thank you guys a wonderful relaxing vlog. Taking our troubles away for a time.
Thanks for watching Thomas 😀
What a beautiful day you had. My kind of heaven ❤️
I know my husband and I would be really happy doing the exact same thing.....just breathing it all in. ❤️
We definitely recommend it Emma 🙂👍
The what 3 words for Smeale Beach should be proverbs plural. Am going to Iom in September so thank you for your ideas.
Thanks for letting us know. The what3words has been updated 🙂👍 Have a great time on IOM in September 😀
Thanks for this trip down memory lane, I remember this remote and beautiful part of the IOM on my first visit in 1970. It hasn't changed much thank goodness.
Glad you enjoyed it Anthony and good to hear it hasn’t changed much 👍😀
The last shot of you both walking hand in hand along the beach with the sound of the waves was excellent, a lovely loving couple.
Awww thank you Lea 🥰
Loved the drone footage. You have really sold the idea of visiting this island to me. It looks very tranquil and the islanders are very welcoming to all visitors.
Well worth a visit 👍
That Jackdaw was mad but birds do tend to eat grit so maybe it was that. Loved seeing the seals at the start. Another nice place to go and nice to hear that the Isle of Man is so friendly.
Thanks for watching guys 👍🙂❤️
This and the last video have been so relaxing to watch. Nice editing with time to linger helped. That north end of the island looks fab.
Thanks Euan. We did find this trip a lot more relaxing 👍🙂
Lovely photos!
So calm and relaxed. Another great video, thanks so much.
Lovely restful video, love your delivery to the camera, and showing the quiet side of van life.
Thank you so much. Glad you enjoyed it ☺️
Ahoy Pirates! Colorful and lovely video! The seals and birds are a cute bonus! Thanks for sharing, heartwarming ending, wish you more adventures in the Little Red Camper! Great review of the Isle! .) Captain of the good old Blackthorne
Thanks Captain. Plenty more from the Isle of Man still to come 😀👍
This is amazing. Added to my bucket list.
Great vid Ken and Carol maybe the Jack door in the car park was collecting grit they do it to aid egg production loved the light house all the best donny
I didn’t know that 👍
The grassland with the blurred lighthouse just looks like the same image in the optometry mahcines(should be a balloon), the whole image reminds me of William Turner‘s portray of the sea on an oil painting canvas, glorious coastline again, affluent gradients in rotini and great selfie of you two.
Sooo beautiful!!
The seals put on a nice show. That was a nice place to relax.
We loved the seals, they were so inquisitive 😀
Great sound at the beach. So relaxing!
They are sure inquisitive seals.
Loved this! And good to see you guys chillaxing a bit 😀 Beautifully shot as always 👌
Fingers crossed your re-upload works. Looking forward to it 😁👍
Carol is a brilliant photographer...
Love your videos..Keep safe..
Yet another winner from the dream team, thank you, as always x
Our pleasure Sheila 😀
I love watching your episodes. I live in Kirk Michael on the island and have seen more on this than I have in all my life. Love the way you love every bit of the island. Can’t wait for next episode. Pmt if you get chance. FB.
Thanks John. It’s an easy place to fall in love with 😍
How therapeutic the sea and the beach is a gorgeous walk for you both looking very relaxed and happy 😊the pasta meal is one I'll try in the future lovely to watch take care 🙂
Thanks Sue 🙂
Hi again folks. Hope all is well.
All good thanks Larry 😀👍
enjoy video, watching the seal floating in the sea, views of the countryside, and much more.
those fish and chips looked yummy 😋
enjoy your day.
Glad you enjoyed it Moira. Take care 😀❤️
Lovely lazy days we all need more of then, you where very lucky with the seals. Good to see the weather improved for you both. 👍😍😎🌞
There must be a lot of seals off that coast, they never failed to disappoint 😍
Lovely relaxing vlog. Lots of beautiful scenery and cosy domestic bliss, along with a smattering of synchronised dogs! You always manage to make your little van feel like a cosy living room. Nice to see you both so chilled. Going to try a version of that one pot pasta dish in Merlin with some fake chicken. Looked delicious! 🧙♂️😊
Glad you enjoyed it. We found this trip very relaxing as it was easy to find park ups away from any crowds (there weren’t many of them) and the roads were quiet and easy to navigate. Hope you enjoy the recipe ☺️
A lovely and relaxing video - the North of the Island is magical!
I stumbled upon your CZcams videos by pure chance and have now subscribed - I find them both enjoyable and incredibly relaxing. Safe travels.😊
Welcome Karen. Glad you enjoy them. 👍
We decided since you had dinner in my favorite chippy on the Island then we would try your (Claire and Tony's) recipe this evening and it was bloody marvelous guys~
Glad it worked out 😀👍
Loved hearing you sing in the bit where you didn’t realize the camera was on. I think it’s great you had a relaxing day. Nothing wrong with that in the least. As always the food looked fantastic. So simple and easy to make. Looking forward to the next video. The best to you both, Mary
Thank you Mary, glad you enjoyed it 😀
I love the blubber comment on the vid....I too have ample insulation that will allow me to float a bit lol. I do enjoy your vids a lot.....keep up the good work you two!!!!!!
Nice to see the Seals bobbing up to say hello. Quite a variety of sea birds too. I could spend hours and hours just watching the wildlife somewhere like that. Idyllic is the only word for it. It looked like they really had to drag you into the fish and chip restaurant Ken. 😬 I've got to say if I'm in a coastal town there's never any competition, it's always a nice piece of fish. It tastes so much better when there is salt in the air. Have to say that pasta dish is quite appealing too, although I'd maybe use something less garlicky than the Boursin. Not that I don't like garlic but these days it doesn't seem to like me as much as it used to. This time it pinged into my inbox just after supper but I still saved it for my bedtime cuppa and a biscuit. Really liked the drone footage in this one too.👍
Point of Ayre and Smeale turned out to be my favourite place of them all because of it’s remote feel, wildlife and relaxing feel. There were so many lovely spots over there and all of them were easy to access and use. We are not done with it, we go back again later in the trip 👍
good vid on your travels stay safe lee
Thanks Lee 🙂👍
While in Bride, you could have visited the great Norman Wisdom final resting place. He’s in the church next to the car park.
Sadly we didn’t know it was there until we had left the island. We would have liked to have seen that 👍
@@LifeistooshortCK I was so disappointed that you didn't take the time to visit Bride Church and have a look around. The Bride Tea Room would have been a nice place to have a good lunch, as well and you were already parked just behind them! That is a nice public convenience in Bride!
All the more things to see on a return visit ☺️ Thanks for the tips 👍🙂
Loved watching your very enjoyable video, so much wild life, great beaches , a very peaceful, relaxing atmosphere. Lol
Thanks Diana. Glad you enjoyed it 😀
Mushy peas are not appreciated here🇨🇦 but my Dad was born in England so I ‘do’ enjoy them. I had them in Scotland and so enjoyed the fish and chips with mushy peas..yum!
Mushy peas are not to everyone’s taste but we do enjoy them with our fish and chips 😋
First time on this channel.Thank you so much for sharing.I have always had this fascination for the isle of man ,now I can get at least a glimpse of it.
Welcome Ned.
Never been to the Isle of Man but being a keen motorcyclist perhaps I'd better go:) Looks like you guys had a great visit. Food looked good as always:)
Thanks for watching Sandy. Definitely recommend a visit, would be great fun on either of your bikes 😀👍
Great video as always 🙌 fish and chips looked divine but so did the pasta dish, will definitely be giving that a go 👍 till the next one stay safe both 🙌❤️💙🚐🙌🙏
Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed it 🙂
👍 and a comment to help you with YT algorithms keep up the good work, great drone skills there Ken
Thanks for watching, liking and commenting. Much appreciated 👍🙂
You two should really try and relax when you’re away…. Lovely video again. IOM does look a very chilled place. 👍
It certainly is Stephen 😁
Hi Carol and Ken, the seals were awesome so cute. A cottage on the island would be ideal so idyllic,i can dream lol. Glad you got one break from cooking carol and no dishes to wash up,i enjoy tartar sauce with fish. Glad you popped up with this video. If you were living on the island what part would you choose, I'd say laxey for me. Xx ❤️💙
Hi Margaret. Thanks for watching. We would love a cottage up at Point of Ayre so we could see the seals every day but there are so many other lovely places on the island it would be hard to choose ☺️
I have a feeling after this series, the IOM will be even busier with visitors you’ve sold it so beautifully! I remember the pasta recipe, must try it. ATB, Sue x
Very tasty. Next time we will use 2 Boursin cheese and a bit of milk to make more sauce 😁👍
A beautiful video once again Ken and Carol, thanks. We have been back in lockdown here in NSW Australia for 11 weeks now so watching your travels is a welcome distraction. We look forward to getting back on the road in our camper soon.
We feel for you guys in lockdown for that length of time. I really do hope our government don’t go that route again. Most of the country are double jabbed here and everyone we know just want to get on and live with the risk now.
@@LifeistooshortCK thanks. Our government were a bit slow to get started with vaccinations, the goal is 70% double jabbed for lockdown to ease. Currently we are on track for that to happen in early October. Fingers crossed 🤞
Well I hope they honour that pledge because our government just keeps moving the goal posts. They say one thing and then do the opposite. Governments who take emergency powers don’t like giving them up.
@@LifeistooshortCK . We hope they honour it too!
Have a great weekend 😊
@@RS-cp5wc second that RS. It's all a load of bollox.
Some great footage 👍
Thanks 👍
Will be adding that pasta sauce idea to my van cooking.
Still loving the look of the Island thanks to the videos.
Glad you like them! Thanks Lisa 🙂
Great vlog, the pasta dish smelled delicious (it’s a new App.). Isle of Man looks and sounds great, shame it is £500+ ferry ride away.
Regards from Solent Coast. AJ
Thanks Alan. Must get that new smell App 😀 The ferry is a lot cheaper if you book further ahead and a return is much cheaper than two singles. Just checked an evening crossing from Liverpool in two weeks time is £292 return 🙂👍
Hi Carol and Ken still no motorcycle theme as you know IOM is the hub of the world maybe you guys have not got time to check out everything but we loved watching the video and enjoyed Carols cooking tips as we can see that she spoils you
Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it 🙂👍
The building ruins you were querying at the beginning were salt brine works they pumped salt water to Ramsey these were the pump stations . If you walk along the coast to Ramsey you can still see metal pipes that carried the saltwater on the beach. If you google it you might get information
Thanks Jerry, that’s very useful information 🙂👍
Definitely trying the pasta dish looked lovely
Next time we make it we will use 2 Boursin cheese and add a little milk to make more sauce 👍
Looking forward to the next episode
A great video as always Carol and ken
Cheers Rob 😀👍
Smeale Coastal Area is one of 26 registered Dark Sky Discovery Sites on the Isle of Man. With the help of Interpretation Boards on site, stargazers can fully enjoy the stunning views on offer in the Manx skies.
Hi Ken, lovely video from you as always. I am wondering if you have any videography or documentary / filmography background since all your video is well recorded and edited. I am a person with good camera knowledge but when it comes to video, every time I try to do something like yours I end up giving it up since I believe I have missed a couple of important shot. Hopefully one day I am able to produce something like yours.
None I am self taught. The most important thing is to finish a film, edit & post it doing the best you can. Don’t strive for perfection just make each one a little bit better learning as you go. Watch youtube with a critical eye. Think about what you like and dislike about other peoples films. Make sure you exclude anything you dislike from yours
Hah, you drove past my house! Pop by for a cuppa next time...
Overnighting is no longer allowed at Smeale.
That’s a shame, it was a lovely location.
I love camping at Smeale. I trust you had a permit to avoid the potential £2000 fine?😬
of course 😁👍
Me and my wife are loving your videos if your still up our neck of the woods in Andreas nip to ballakelly farm for some lovey manx meat
We are back home in England now George but maybe next time 😁👍
They where probably old Gun turrets
Did you get a chance to review a queenie? A scallop. Goes well with coffee!
We had to ask someone what a queenie was ☺️ Wish we had tried one now.
Carol/Ken, what are the mobile network options on Mann, same as mainland UK ? Also was your ferry ticket price for a return ?
The mobile network was generally good and we both had mobile roaming with Three and EE. We bought two single tickets rather than a return because we didn’t know how long we would be on the island.
If wild parking in England gets to be nearly impossible the IOM good be the ideal place,as I’m a full timer and never use camp sites.just checked the LPG on the Island there is only 1 garage that sells it could be a problem.
You would not be allowed to full time. After 3 months you would have to change your van to Manx registration and address.
@@IN_THIS_DAY_AND_AGE I never thought of that.good point.
I know caravans are not allowed,I used to come here in the 90s for the Manx GP and Manx 2 day trial.I came for 1 day for TT first and last time on a Airplane but it was to busy for me.
It is great at the moment because there is only low numbers and therefore few issues, but it is getting more difficult as the numbers are growing. The island are very adept at creating legislation when they see fit.
@@anthonykinrade8642 another very good point.
Fish and chips = noted. Yummy. So not many there with a bad attitude? Must not have internet? LOL Doing nothing can be a good thing. Carol's cooking looks great. The flaor mixture with the sausage and cheese mixture must have been great. I was wondering if Carol gave you a pinch during the selfie? LOL
Thanks John. Yes eating good food and relaxing can’t be bad for you. No pinching during selfies 😁
The carpark at bude is where the church is opposite
Thanks Bryan. Do you mean Bride?
@@LifeistooshortCK hi guys. Yes that's the place, you are less than 500 meters from his grave, behind the church. Best of luck bry
How do you record your audio - the quality is amazing during the seal sighting :)
I am transitioning from a Rode shotgun mic to using Rode Wireless 2 mics. Getting the sound right (and its miles away from being right in this episode) has been the hardest part. On the next trip after Isle of Man we will be trying something else.
What make and model drone do you have?
DJI Mavic Mini 2
Those two Vizsla’s looked old.
You didn't visit the south of the island
Several people have commented that they thought the series was over. Please can you help us out by letting us know, if you can remember, where you got that impression from. It would really help us to improve our videos. Many thanks 🙂
Smeale requires a permit for overnight camping although as you said, no signs!
Not like at Ramsey then, signs all over the place there about permits but didn’t see any at Smeale. Why no tents ?
@@LifeistooshortCK Smeale is a national nature reserve. That is why dogs have to be kept on leads. They don't allow any fires to be set, or even stakes to be set for awnings. There has been issues with idiots abusing the place in the past. There is now a visiting warden and you are meant to apply for a permit. They are now also limiting it to maximum of a dozen or so campers and a max 3 night stay I think.
I think you are lucky it’s an island with an expensive ferry because if it wasn’t you wouldn’t be able to move for campervans.
With a £2000 fine
As a former police officer are you allowed to carry a weapon?
No I am not Larry.
Why on earth would you want to carry a weapon?
I think it’s different where Larry lives, I think lots of ex police carry out there.
@@LifeistooshortCK they do for sure here in NYC.
I used to carry a gun for quite a while when I worked the airport. American tourists would come in, ask for a photo with us in our Bobby helmets and then say how they couldn’t imagine how we could do the job without a gun. Back then we carried pistols behind a flap in our trousers secured with velcro. You couldn’t tell we were armed. These days it’s all open carry and they look like Rambo coming out of an Army surplus store 😁👍
Just empty the bottle in a ditch or behind a bush! People and animals pee outside and emptying a pee bottle is the same thing...
We would if we had to but prefer to empty them at public loos. Its two birds for one stone as well. We avoid tipping it outside as we have used a few park 4 night places that have stank so that causes problems for everyone.
@@LifeistooshortCK Of course it should never be tipped very near a park up or something. Same goes for peeing. Than stench is so annoying. People should be more considerate!
I find it extremely weird that you call your wife “Mother” 😩
I thought it was a reference to a catch phrase in a British movie or TV show.
I don’t it’s just a saying and when it’s said it’s not to her. I watch a channel called Country Van Life TV and it’s his catch phrase. At times you will hear Carol say it.
It goes back to a comedy show from the 50’s or 60’s - was it “Life with the Lyons” ?
@@sheilaUK I have searched Google but not found that exact phrase so maybe Stephen from Country Van Life TV invented it. I love it when he uses it and I am a bit like a parrot repeating things I enjoy. The nearest I could find was ‘put the kettle on mother’. It certainly sounds like it belongs in a sitcom.
@lifeistooshort - I’ve started saying “That looks yummy” !!! 😂. and regarding the catchphrase, I am sure I remember seeing it in an old sitcom
Local man from Ramsey here enjoying your videos. Are used to be a fellow CZcamsr here on the island. If you're ever back up north before you leave send me a message on Darren J Douglas on Facebook I'd love to meet you and have a chat
Thanks for the kind offer Darren. We are back home now but would love to return to the island one day.
My husband has an app on his phone which means he can find out information about the various sea vessels, what they’re called, what they are and where they’re heading. Having watched several of your videos now, I was wondering if Carol does all the cooking or whether Ken gives you a night off and takes over. 😜👍🧶🌈🍓
P.S. the pasta dish looked lovely, I have done something similar with chicken, mushrooms and Philadelphia cheese.
We generally take it in turns to cook the evening meal and also have meals out and takeaways so we are not cooking every day 🙂
