you owe me $329
haha
It is $379 with the additional box, which I HIGHLY recommend.
Olafur, you took the words right out of my mouth...lol
next week: "so... i bought an electric guitar..."
And a new rabbit hole opens up.
Guitar Tuesdays)))
or in my case - a plectrum
Damn you Christian... This such a cool piece of equipment! Very creative and inspiring. Just bought it and I can't wait to try on an electric bass. Thank you for sharing that!
Now I'm caught in this gear battle between you and Paul. Thanks a lot. This pedal has endless possibilities. Great freaking pedal.
Bought it right away. I should leave your channel for the sake of saving money. But its freaking too inspiring. Thanks!
Oh boy, that was a sexy piece of gear you got there Christian! Love the Schimnel through the pedal.
In the time it took me to get out of bed, Christian climbed a blood mountain, recorded and edited a video and uploaded it to CZcams. Great way to start the Sunday with one of your videos ;)
Thanks Christian! Coincidentally, I’m waiting for mine to come in the post. Looking forward to it even more now!
Love this pedal! A couple of friends I have mixed have used these in their live sets really effectively with guitar but hearing it’s possibilities with piano is truly inspiring. I’d love to try one so now I’m even more tempted!
I am a guitar player ; ) and have had my eye on this one for a bit, great demonstration, thank you sir!
Lovely stuff Christian, thanks for lots of inspiration. On this one, you start by the lake with swans then make all those lovely sustain reverby sounds. Combine the two and you’ve got... er, John Martyn, Small Hours.
Dare I say the next labs plug in should be the sound you produced with the big sky the pedal and the piano 😍
That's Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois sorted for a few albums!
Love your videos,
The usual "will this work ok with synths" question?
I have said since it came out I would have bought as many of these as possible if the physical format was friendlier. Amazing demo as always.
Beautiful ambient piece that opens the vlog
OMG!!!! That is amazing! I've typically been unimpressed by guitar-based midi - seems an unnatural marriage to me, but wow, an audio-based sustain is game changing. Could move me away from the keyboard, and back to the fretboard!
Best Purchase of 2019 - written on Jan 6, 2019. Lol. Well..you have got something beautiful going on here. Thank you.
My old DD6 used to do something a little like this although far more primitive. I used it all the time til it was stolen. Bought the DD7, but they removed the feature. This pedal is right up my street. Thanks Christian.
The DD3 has the same function you mention, and, although I like the Plus pedal, at the end for my purpose live I've ended using the DD3 for sustained effect (the Plus Pedal is rather big and I prefer to keep my pedalboard as small as possible). But the result is of course very different, more of microloop/granular thing.
Beautiful trippy sounds.... 3 thumbs up
Sounds amazing Christian - sharing this with all my guitar friends! I'm guessing it still does a similar job through MIDI? Would be interested to hear what some of the Evo's sound like through this!
A handy piece of gear. I get similar results by recording extremely short single or multiple pitches of instruments (my own or samples) bussed to an IR of a big space and using that recording as an IR with only a send and no 'dry' input. This reduces the attacks of the second instrument / source to nearly nothing. What is left is the ambience / overtones of the instrument used for the IR and the second, source instrument in the space -- effective but very time consuming. Seems to me the 'Plus' would not only be indispensable for these kinds of techniques in performance but in studio as well, given the time it takes to make the IRs and then set them up. Guitar isn't my primary but I would seriously consider buying a Plus. Thanks again Christian!
Got my "Plus" yesterday and did my first live stream. This pedal is a lot of fun. I see myself using it a lot. Playing D-18 trough K&K trinity. Simple, creative and fun.
wow - what a great tool...looks like I have a shopping list for 2019 already. Seems the send / return is for sending 100% wet signal to other fx pedals etc ..
Gorgeous sound, reminds me of Ólafur and Sigur Rôs 👌
Sounds truly delicious with the reverb and wet mix
A good alternative for in the box creators is 112db’s mikron cascade plugin. It doesn’t do exactly the same but you can get kinda similar results.
Airwave Music thanks for answering my question before I even asked it!
You’re welcome
Simply scrumptious!
I just spent 10 straight minutes scrolling up and down looking at the thumbnail of this video
Wow, just wow. That's some sonic narcotics right there :)
Some brilliant sounds. If you are after the same without the pedal - you can employ a volume pedal and turn the sustain up on the Big Sky (this allows you to fade in your chording). Just scored a film last year using this effect - inspired by John Martyns 'Small Hours' czcams.com/video/aVyattex0l8/video.html
I just bought a Mooer Ocean Machine to create exactly this but requires a lot of editing before it becomes a sample... For the same price I could have just bought this. Awesome find!
Very nice, but where can I get those shoes? :)
Sounds amazing. Thanks for the info.
I've had one for a couple of months and somehow I haven't bonded with it. I mean, it is an awesome concept and what it does it does it very well, but I guess it really depends what you wanna achieve with it. Definitely a very useful live tool, maybe studio not that much.
*plugs in the piano microphone* me: *inhale deeply*
Soooo cool and I 2nd that this should be a Labs instrument!
absolutely beautiful.
I have to get me one of those!! and I will! Thanks Christian, and take one of those swans to make a broth. Hey, by the way, WHAT A GREAT LIBRARY that of London Calling BBC Orchestra-Spitfire. I might get it soon, there definitively will be no ice-cream or gifts for my wife and children until then.
Yup, I can see why this might be your best purchase of 2019. Almost immediately had me running for my credit card just watching this.
Hey Christian, have you heard anything about the Electro-Harmonix Superego pedal? Its a similar sustain type box with some other unique features. Looks pretty awesome!
8:45ish is Interstellar’esc. Beautiful sounds Mr C.
Love this! Might have to grab one myself! Ive got a degree in guitar (useless right?!) so I’d be more than happy to come up with a couple of guitars and an amp if you want to experiment/sample anything, just give me a shout!
Very cool pedal! A bit of overmod distortion is even better IMHO. Hardware like that can easily lead to "all nighters". It's nice that digital has made recording a night of noodling easy and cheap.
I'm interested in how this compares to the sustain/freeze feature on the big sky itself?
Lol that cigar box elulele is cool!
Also looks like they have a "WET" pedal that goes along with this. Would that work as a stomp-box style you mentioned?
Sort of the same effect can be achieved with the "freeze" setting on certain reverbs, but to have it as a pedal is killer.
So, when is the next LAB coming loaded with this?! :D
Hi Christian, Great video as usual ;) EHX have granted your wish for stomp box like controls with the SuperEgo+ and it's also CV controllable - I showed that on a video on my channel but don't want to link to it lest the spam bots get angry... happy to PM it to you
is it just me or does the plus freeze algorithm sound better than the superego+?
For me, they sound nothing alike. The Plus pedal is in another liga. Superplus+ sounds much more synth alike (a bit plastic maybe) while the Plus pedal sound quite musical and organic, almost acoustic.
Hey Loopop! I love all your demos... they have helped me spend so much money, more wisely. :) I like the similarities with electronic instruments, but how do you think the sound compares with acoustic instruments, like piano, cello, etc? All the controls you demo'd are incredible and given the second-hand price of the super ego, I probably need it. Anyway, just curious about the sustain of acoustic sounds. Thanks!
@@sanfordmusic thanks! I actually showed how a piano (and electric guitar, as well as other instruments...) sound on the Super Ego+ in my video. It would be interesting to compare to GameChanger's pedal though...! Need to get my hands on one...
All gravy. Yeah, I was curious if you had both... because you have ALL the stuff. Given your Superego+ demo and price point, I'll probably start with that and hopefully forget all about this one.
Slipperly little freeze box runs away every time you step on it. sounds smooth though. now i want one.
Very Brian Eno at the end there. Nice tones.
Gorgeous!
“Gold Plated Mercury Diamonds”
The last 4 songs I've recorded on my CZcams channel use the Pedal Plus extensively, it has revolutionized the way I create music. Anyone interested in the Pedal Plus - feel free to checkout "Walking By The Northern Light", "Raindance Lake", "Ah Via Celestia", and "Lavender Run".
Well that's excellent. Bought one immediately!
Was inspired by this to make a track using piano sounds with the attack taken off (it's on my soundcloud if you are interested - search for 'junklight') - was fascinating and came up with some brilliant sounds so thank you Christian!
A similar guitar pedal that looks cool is the Digitech Freqout. It mimics the feedback you get from a really loud amp but without killing your ears.
I have both a Plus and a Superego+, and I must say, this is nice, but the Superego is a bit more usable with more functions like latch and glissando. It also does CV 😁. I use it with a Rhodes a lot for underlying organ kinda tones with the built in rotary also
So, also try the plus with the Wurly, should be awesome
I wonder what it would sound like with a bass guitar going into it. I'm loving the "instant Evo" feel of the pedal. There's a chance that it won't only be Olafur you owe $329 to :)
Ok... need to find a diversion for GAS.
Nice shoes ! Where did you get them ?
Played this at NAMM '18 so, so good.
Damn you Christian, I'd just got that pedal out of my head after seeing it in your interview with Leo :) I've managed to get a similar effect on guitar using an expression pedal to control input level and going into Valhalla shimmer which is a great cheap substitute for a big sky. You do need some compression; I have an old Boss CS3 compression sustainer pedal
I was going to suggest this too. Add in an interesting delay before the shimmer/big sky and you can get even more experimental. I think this pedal affords much more control than using a volume pedal, however, owing to the split signal and the send-return loop functionality. It's on my wish list but there's so many other things I need first!
Same here, would love this pedal but it is expensive.
So if you get assaulted by a swan can you sue the Queen for damages?
It's definitely fun to have a sustain pedal on guitars! I have an EH Freeze mini-pedal that does several modes of endless sustain, although it lacks controls other than mix and what mode the stomp button is in. In VST land, this free reverb provides freeze mode to the same end: stone-voices.ru/vst/ambient_reverb?lang=en
the Sustained version at 3:37 would make a good PAD for Labs - also possible with more vibration in it
thakns, beautiful!
ohh, I'm sold!
When you used both pedals with your piano I could've swore It sounded like something Eric Whitacre wrote or would write.
Those of you who like this should check out Ebows. I don’t personally own one, but they do something similar. I’m pretty sure the band Explosions in the Sky use them frequently.
Did you add aeroplane sound effects to the swan?
Did you try to plug the bottle on the table ? ;-)
So essentially its an EHX Freeze but it allows you to change the ADSR of said frozen audio? Very cool
I think EHX superego can do ADSR, and sound like this.
And the Superego+ adds built-in effects to the frozen sounds
markolijus it’s a different sound though, this one is much smoother. Someone did a comparison somewhere I think.
@@yuggothproductions true
There is a "Stompbox Version" of this by EHX, the EHX Freeze. Don't know how good it is in comparison, but maybe worth checking it out. ;)
Also it's a bit less expensive. :D
ok when it started distorting I lost my shit and will certainly purchase this after I manage to save up a years buffer and paid my taxes and invested... But it's golden and sounds good... Reaches for credit card...
God let's get that going through the Eurorack and see what weird greatness we can get
...Pedal Pundays? Lovely pedal. Immediately want one!!! 😭
I take it, best purchase refers to those lovely shoes
Hm, sounded righteous - very nice
I only compose whilst wearing my Spitfire Audio T-shirt.
Fantastic pedal! For those of you that haven’t already done so, do yourself a favour and check out The Enigma library.
You won’t be disappointed 👍🏻
Wow, that’s beautiful. Make a pad out of anything.
You can put the tail on 10 and it goes infinitely, like a stompbox.
Wow!!
Being a violinist I wonder if this would be compatible in some way? I'd be curious as to what it would sound like.
It actually works very well with string instruments. Of course you need a pickup and a preamp in order to use it. But yeah, i would recommend it for violin! I've used mine mainly with Cello.
I imagine it would be superb - the whole point is that it’s used ‘in performance’ opposed to setting up a patch on an effect device, say a lovely Lexicon or something, for in post. I Imagine you could learn to jam with the device in real time.
Ambient Guitars are coming soon :)
Does anybody know whether it could be possible to achieve a similar effect via software plugins?
I would think that you could with Iris 2.
Maybe the freeze function on Eventide Blackhole would do something similar.
Blackhole sounds similar out of the box indeed, but you can get this with any delay pedal or plugin, it’s really just a infinite feedback loop, keep it under control with automation and you’ll be set. I get very close to this with a tc electronic flashback x4 with the expression pedal. The real trick is to stack delays and reverbs, so you get the lush sound.
Yeah, I guess that's essentially what it is. The advantage to the Plus Pedal, though, is the ability to do what it does live. And, they must have designed things so that those short sustaining "frozen" loops sound seamless on the fly (no glitching at the loop transition). There are certainly a lot of stomp boxes that can get you a big, ambient wash, but maybe not the precise control.
Thank you everybody, I'll try with some reverbs and delays. The idea is to make it in a live setting but I won't spend some 400€ for this toy...I'm going to experiment.
10:50 And some voices by Liz Fraser on that please.
And now i want one too
"Things took a turn for the worse there..." ME: Oh no they didn't!! There goes some more monies.. :)
Who's taking Oscar for his walks? Hope you get better soon.
Do I detect Max Richter 'On the Nature of Daylight" in Christian's opening cue here? You be the judge: czcams.com/video/b_YHE4Sx-08/video.html
Sounds like the kind of stuff Atticus Ross would dig.
should get the plasma pedal by GameChanger Audio too ;)
Tommy Varekai 4 blokes who cost me money.
Never mind the pedal, where did you buy your shoes? 👞

Sounds great, but isn't it just a very expensive EHX freeze?
Just got done watching @chordsoforion 's latest vid on doing an ambient guitar EP in 6 weeks. You two whould talk.... #justsayin'
Please, oh please, sample this baby. We need it Christian, we're begging for it.
Goddamnit, same as Olafur
Cool.
Think Eric Persing bought that pedal before you Christian :-) Those pads are definitely on Omnisphere 2 ;-)
