    Mitch, great information. It helped me correct a problem that I could not figure it out. The oil hole! I bought '93 Ext. cab truck, not running. The previous owner installed a new head but messed up the valve train rails (tubes) and timing. As you pointed out, the rail hole must be sealed. The thing run almost dry. I checked the opening, and sure enough I could stick a nail in it. Turned the tube 90 Deg. and voila, have oil pressure. Had to replace the camshaft and complete valvetrain due to excessive wear. I am hooked to your channel, thanks.

      On the Mazda trucks you can take the valve cover off and look at the center cap of the valve train and there's a little hole on the side and if you can see the valve train or tube there it's probably positioned correctly if you see a gaping hole or you can stick a pic through it it is in their upside down.

  • @trevoradigwe
    @trevoradigwe Před 3 lety

    I am having trouble with really bad tapping even after setting the valve lash and have come to the conclusion through reading this is caused by worn out oil pump allowing oil to drain back and causing inadequate lubrication. Have searched for a CZcams video showing how to replace it and haven't found anything is this something you could make a video on or is there something else that could be causing these symptoms. If I pour oil into the valve cover while engine is running noise goes away completely until the oil has drained back to oil pan

    • @MazdaMitch
      @MazdaMitch  Před 3 lety

      How many miles are on the engine? The oil pump is not entirely responsible for pressure. The pressure comes from the tolerance of the main bearings. If the engine is very worn, a complete rebuild is in order. Follow the service manual to replace the oil pump. Online service manual on my website mazdaminitruckin.com

      It made this sound before pulling it all apart and I could see marks on inside of valve cover where it looked like one was hitting. I replaced valve seals and adjusted valve lash, put it all back together and now that sound is louder. The valve that looked like it was hitting the valve cover was over right and needed loosened so it would make since it would hit valve cover harder, but why would it be hitting at all.
