Snapdragon Gen 2 is an absolute beast!! When was the last time we saw a 2x single core performance increase?!
The older ones are GB5 scores, not GB6. The graphics improvement is legit though.

Well from the video's description it appears he is not using the base model with 8GB RAM. But he is definitely using the smaller screen sized Tab S9.
As a Tab S6 user (which still appears to be going to get another Android update, Android 14) the basic Tab S9 would also be the one I'm interested in. Both have the same screen.

For extra testing, here's something a lot of emulation channels miss: when testing Gran Turismo 4, play some of the non-daytime levels where you see lots of sun glare or especially street lamp glow. On my SD-865 phone all levels run fine around 2-3x res but levels like clubman ss or tokyo really take a huge performance hit due to the light sources on screen. Even sunset levels have this issue when seeing the cars' taillights activate.
I'm a Gran Turismo enthusiast and I own the Galaxy Tab S9 (11"). One of the very first things that I did was test Special Stage Route 5 on AetherSX2. I can confirm that FINALLY! I have an Android device that can run those tracks, stock settings, Vulkan, 3x, Hardware Download Mode: Disabled @ 60 FPS all day

Best tablet series for videos on the market by far. Though hopefully they've fixed the sometimes terrible HDR tonemapping of the S7+ (super dim on max brightness indoors even with the "bright" video setting).

I've had my first gen 12.9 Ipad for 4-5 years now, probably longer. I think it's time for an upgrade, previous to the Ipad pro, I had the Samsung 12.2 tablet, that thing was a BEAST! I played GTA Vice city in it's entirety and emulated al kinds of games on it too.
I received my S9 yesterday. I was between the regular or plus and bought the small one. This should suit me well.

Thank you for the comparison with other tablet hardware: Apple & other tablets. The emulation of other game controllers was also interesting.
Keep in mind viewers, the Tab S10 series will launch in February 2025 which means we'll get Snapdragon Gen 4 (probably overclocked) and if the Snapdragon Gen 2 is amazing imagine what the Gen 4 will be when that drops on the Tab S10 series. Luckily Gen 1 to Gen 2 was practically double in power with no heating issues. I'm excited to know that when the Tab S10 series drops 18 months from now that we should pretty much have access to all switch games emulation with 2K display, 120fps and hopefully Wii u emulation is available by than so trading in my Tab S9 Ultra for the Tab S10 Ultra would be the machine to run all Nintendo consoles (untill the switch successor will be announced next year but we should expect something similar to what Xbox did with Series S/X)
Keep in mind in 3 years we get snap dragon gen 5
@BlueFins7 idk if your comment was to be a smartass but Apple & Samsung does 18 month cycle upgrades. Because the Tab S8 series launched in February 2022 and its August 2023 we only got 1 chip upgrade but luckily it doubled in power without heat issues. So since we're not expecting their 10th edition till February of 2025 that means it launches with the brand new Snapdragon Gen 4 which expectations will be much higher in power since the leap in upgrades is 2 this time around.
Someone's never heard of CPU development falling off of the Moore's law curve, and introducing diminishing returns in CPU development.
You won't have that much more performance with the gen 4, it's physically impossible.

I’m waiting to see the emulation vid for this tablet. I didn’t upgrade to the s8, I’m still using the s7+. I tested emulation with a friends s8 but the change wasn’t enough for me to validate spending the money for my use case. Maybe the s9 will be my time for upgrade. I wish emulation was more convenient on iPad since productivity is better on iOS in my opinion based on my experiences.

Oh, I was waiting for you to review this tablet! Wish it was the S9+ that was reviewed, but since they all have the same specs, just different sized screens, it probably won't matter. The S9+ is THE gadget I've been waiting all year for, and if possible I plan to buy two of them.😊

The power button is not the fingerprint reader on the S9. It's fingerprint reader is on the bottom of the screen like most newer phones. Takes some getting used to coming from an S8.

wallpaper engine. You have to have it on PC though cause that's how you transfer the wallpapers to it

You should look at testing the following games as they are just as graphic heavy, but also quite optimised. Ace Racer, CarX Street, Apex Legend, King Arthur Legends Rising, Diablo Immortal, Call of duty Warzone Mobile, Seven Knights 2, Aether Gazer, Snowbreak and Star Rail. These are really great graphic intensive games to check out instead of the usual ones you display. It will give a better idea of gaming performance across different graphic intensive games. Genshin is just not well optimised and also like you mentioned no controller support. I think some of your subscribers would appreciate these tests as well.
I'd like to see an emulation video with this in portrait orientation with a telescopic controller attached for DS and 3DS emulation. I'm not sure if 11" in portrait would be too big for comfort (or what controllers would support the width in portrait orientation)... maybe a Snapdragon Gen 2 7"-8" tablet? Does anything exist like that in the USA? I think Lenovo has a Legion tablet in that size but only sold in China. Hmmmmm

How's that, the Tab S9 series has a 4 nano-metre processor. The only improvement could come from architecture. Sure the RAM size might increase, but for the most part it would just be sitting there doing nothing.

When playing gran turismo 4 you should play the seattle course it's the hardest one to run
Regarding the speakers. Did you enable Atmos?
CODM doesn't need to be white listed. It already supported 90 fps in Ultra just like the Tab S8. Runs the same resolution as the Tab S8 too. I have an upload from Aug 8th showing this which is a day before you recorded this footage. If you had something plugged into the USB-C when testing Ultra it would cap the refresh to 60Hz.
Any thoughts on the haptics vs previous models?
writing is always better with the spen as you get a feed back from the screen , the ipad it feels like you are writing on a glass screen , plus you cant swipe to close apps and you cant use the apple pencil untill the tablet is fully open

I still have my Tab S2, from years ago. 8”. Excellent camera. No iPad mini was able to emulate it. I wish they would bring back the 8” in the S9 series. Great for traveling, same specs.

When you do the full review, you should test Twisted Metal Black and Twisted Metal Head On Extra Twisted Edition on PS2. Those really push Aethersx2 to its limits. I have the Tab S9 Ultra and haven't been able to run those at a consistent full speed. I'd be curious to see the performance you get. Outrun 2006/SP is another one that really struggles.
And those are at native resolution still struggling?
I wasnt getting the performance you were regarding ps2 and even gamecube games. For instance super mario sunshine was very very choppy for me even at native. Thought it wa shader cache issues but it kept happening. Also the ps2 emulator seems like it wont do anything over 2x at full speed. Tried vulkan and opengl. Are there a specific set of settings you are using to run these games that well?
What settings would ypu recommend for Need for Speed Underground 2?
I noticed that when you went to Samsung DEX and was showing the notification panel that "Dolby Atmos" was turned off. Have you always had Dolby Atmos off? If so than you're missing out on the full experience of the speakers along with that 20% louder volume.
