  • Now I have played all the Napishtim system Ys games ending with the namesake for that gameplay style. I can't believe how far through the series I've gotten over this year, although any other games are on pause now that Cold Steel 4 is here.

    I just finished the game in nightmare catastrophe dificulty and you pretty much nailed it, I must say that exploring in this game feels great and dungeons can feel very unique, you cant really tell when you are going to hit the end or if your going the right way ,also you need to respect the dungeon and dont go in to quickly since it can kick your ass if you do, grinding, temepering and exploring other areas might be necesary in order to gain more power, it felt great to come back to a dificult area and be able to fight back, very uniquie feeling this game has, the quality of the game is exceptional, in nightmare dificulty, bosses more than skill require an strategy, once you find the strategy to beat them they are not really that hard, you do require certain power in order to make a fight duable, otherwise you can get stuck in a infinite battle. Oath bosses required strategy as well but they required you to get very good at the game. Thanks for the review, hope this rant can help you improve your understanding of this game.

    I've finally reached Ark of Napishtim! Gotta say, after beating the first boss, compared to Oath, being able to heal during a boss fight makes the fight infinitely more manageable than Oath. Still love Oath the most but I'm so excited to play my second Napishtim engine game! I do enjoy the Napishtim engine much more than Seven and Celceta's party system.

      @CommRio  Před 2 lety +2

      The Napisthim system definitely had a stronger idea of what it wanted to be at the beginning than the party system had. I still liked Seven and Celceta but Napishtim and Oath are more sure of themselves I'd say.

    This one is definitely rough around the edges but I also liked the characters, the island setting and the soundtrack. The (Japanese!) opening cinematic is one of my favourite Ys openings and it's a title with much lore. Overall a recommendation for every fan, but I would recommend to play them in release order as this game really is a step back gameplay-wise compared to its successors. Oh and I love the artstyle of this era of Falcom as well, Ys Seven was kind of a letdown for me. Hopefully we'll see a physical PS4 release of Napishtim and Felghana someday...
    Thank you for your efforts and this great new video! :-)

      Well, I hope Ys Seven isn't a let down for me, but I guess we'll see once I get around to it likely after Cold Steel 4. I'm glad you enjoyed the video, I look forward to your comments on them.

    I started the game today. I'm playing the PSP version. It's my 3rd Ys game. I have previously beaten Memories of Celceta and Oath in Felghana.
    I'm disappointed in the bad framerate in this version so far. But I'll try and put up with it. If it gets out of hand then I'll see if I can obtain a copy of the PS2 version.

    Hi Commrio! I just noticed you put this out, which means I must have somehow missed your Oath in Felghana video (rip CZcams algorithm). At any rate, I'm glad to see you've tried out Ys 6! It's the only one I ever played as a kid on the ps2. Couple notes if anyone wants to play this, if you don't play it on steam, you may end up with a version where the useful wing of alma only teleports you to the plains, which probably makes the game 3-5 extra hours due solely to travel time. I also strongly recommend using catastrophe mode before upping it to hard because taking away healing items makes it significantly more challenging. Also Rio, in case you were wondering who Terra is, I recently finished the entire series, and discovered she is from Ys 5. I don't really recommend Ys 5 though even if you like emulators, it wasn't really that good of a game. Ys 6 on the other hand, was very good and I look forward to your review of 7 sometime after you finish Trails of Cold Steel 4! I've never played that series, but I know my roommate was also incredibly hyped for it. Have a great day :)

      The algorithm is taking revenge on me for all my jokes about it at the end of videos! It did seem like Terra was supposed to be more significant, but I guess I'll have to wait for Ys 5's remake to get to know her better (any year now, it's gonna happen). I am always glad to have more Falcom games on the horizon to recommend. Have a great day as well!

      I have not started 7 yet, I might get to it late January early February depending on releases, but we’ll have to see. I do plan to make videos like this one on 7, 8, and 9 I just gotta play them first.

    Funny enough, the reason i played Ys VI is because Geis.
    So before i played Ys VI, the first Ys game i played was Ys Seven (actually it was Ys Origins, but it's not Adol's story).
    During my playthrough of Ys Seven, Geis actually became my favourite character in the game, so when i search more about him on google, that's when i found out he also appears in previous installment (Ys VI)

    • @CommRio
      @CommRio  Před rokem

      It is nice that he appeared twice since Ys games don't tend to have recurring characters other than Adol and Dogi

    • @MatsuSenpaii
      @MatsuSenpaii Před rokem

      @@CommRio if Geis can appear in two games, Credo from IX might have a chance too because he became a mercenary just like Geis at the end (even Geis himself appears as a cameo in Credo's ending screen)
      Hummel could be a recurring character too if he met Adol during his Transporter job, but somehow i feel like his chance of coming back is lower now
      Personally, i'd like a spinoff Ys game about a character that was travelled with Adol before (specifically, i actually want to see both Credo & Geis in the same game xD)

    Ys 6 on the psp made me quit back then because of the reaaaaly long loading times each area change, especially if I was just backtracking to the village, it takes the game longer to load the small snippets of areas than to actually cross the area being loaded
    Though I'll try the pc version

      So it's been a while so I'm not sure what I said in the video, but the warp function was expanded in the PC version. You can warp to any save point instead of just to the beginning of the current dungeon

      Good entry or good entry point? I think it’s a good entry in the series although not top tier, as for entry point I wouldn’t advise Ark to start with because it’s story is built up by a couple games before it. You can still have fun playing it if it’s your first Ys game, but there are some things that will go over your head.
