I am interested. Also, it is different. For one, more people have died in less time in Gaza, even though both sides don't have strong armies, not that that matters but it is just an observation, it is a civil war in Sudan, and also, Israel is funded by the United States. Also, you have the fact that Israel is attacking a country that has signed up to the international criminal court's laws of war, and Israel may be breaking those laws, it is a sovereign nation using force on another ethic group of people. It isn't a civil war.
Also, Israel have made genocidal statements in the press and in meetings, government members have spoken that way, and United States directly gives aid to that government, and most of the public until recently supported Israel.
Syria and Sudan are internal matters, equally as terrible or more terrible, but it is not the same thing. No nation can step in and really police it unless everyone agreed because factions are fighting within those countries borders. Even though for example the United States has backed rebel factions in Syria for example, with no long term plan.
It isn't really like for like at all. That is like saying because terrible things happen all over the world all the time, we should care about nothing, it is whataboutism.

      @dking1836 Před 11 dny

Kinda, but not really. Fascists and Communists are both left wing socialists (and both use the same tools). Both want everything decided at the national or international level. American conservatives on the other hand (a minority within the GOP), want to follow the Constitution, have a SMALL federal government, decide things like Education at the local (or at most the State) level. This is why Trump leans right, but is not a conservative. He originally called for a federal ban on abortion. Again, deciding things at the Federal level. The Conservatives on the Supreme Court could have ruled for that but didn't. Instead they returned it to the State level. That's totally in keeping with "life and death" questions belong at the lowest possible level of government, closest to the people. My daughter, sister-in-law, and my Mother are all pro-abortion but are strong conservatives (for them the privacy issue is very strong). I oppose abortion, generally speaking, because too many are using it instead of birth control and you're killing human life. But I surely understand my home state voting to allow it.
Nazis are not right wing. The very name has Socialist within it. Hitler was "running out of other people's money" (to quote Margaret Thatcher) when he invaded Poland and immediately transferred Polish gold and credit to Germany, and gave them as much of his debt as he could transfer. Hitler had free medical, schools, etc. the standard socialist model. He used the same tactics of secret police, no warrant arrests, etc. that would fit right in with either Communist China or the former Soviet Union. He also controlled the news media, just like the DNC does in America.
Our schools are not balanced in explaining the differences, neither are any of the main stream media.

@@josephpurdy4664 I would like to set the record straight by stating that I like Bill Maher, even when I disagree with him. That said, surely you must agree that the man exudes a high level of hubris. It may be justified; Maher is an intelligent individual. Nevertheless, justification for hubris or narcissism does not absolve a person of the character trait. I stand by my statement that it reveals a certain level of narcissism (if not to a clinical level) to tell an audience to respond with applause before proceeding. It is tantamount to directing the audience to express agreement with his statements. You attribute the audience reluctance to fear. What do they have to fear? If the audience agreed with Maher's statement, he has created a safe space for them to respond spontaneously. His audience responded spontaneously on a number of other points. The audience reluctance more probably stems from the realization that Maher was making some controversial statements, and some members of the audience were either conflicted about supporting his views or disagreed with them. Even if the audience whole-heartedly agreed with Maher's statements, it shows a significant level of self-focus and self-confidence to be so certain of your position on a controversial subject to assume that your audience shares your views so thoroughly that they only need "permission" to express that agreement with applause. I would argue that the type of person who enjoys watching Bill Maher is a thinking individual. So it follows that the audience members might arrive at differing opinions about the protestors of the Israel-Palestinian conflict. Therefore, it is a bit narcissistic of Maher to assume that everyone in the audience thinks as he does on the issue.

Every time we meet I hear horror stories, and I go check in the news and barely any mentions in the BBC and The Guardian. The civilian death toll on the Tigray side alone was around 500k. They tried to get attention to their cause here in London, to stop the actual genocide of their people. They were protesting, blocking roads. No one joined them, no one cared. And you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus -- and you've got to make it stop! And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it -- that unless you're free the machine will be prevented from working at all!!" In lauding Israel’s restraint in not yet having completely annihilated the Palestinians even as the IDF targets doctors and aid workers for assassination while bulldozing Palestinian cemeteries, Mr. Maher demonstrates that he is an idiot, a propagandist, or both.
By viewing the earnest, if misguided attempts of those who oppose genocide to have our voices heard in any way we can as being good for a laugh, Bill loses sight of the fact that most of us are not advocating for hugs and kisses for the Islamists so much as we are objecting to our tax money funding their wanton slaughter by fascists. There are - and always have been - plenty of Israeli politicians and common people who supported the "peace process", establishment of a Palestinian state to co-exist with Israel. I was one of them until Oct 7th. There are - and always were - exactly ZERO Arabs who said the same, before or after the Oslo process began.
Every time - EVERY TIME - we gave up land for peace, we got neither. Every time the Palestinians got control over a territory - in the West Bank, in Gaza, in Jordan or in Lebanon - they used it for one thing, and one thing only, attack Israel. Oct 7th is just the latest episode.
I;m quoting your post - "much more recently". I wonder why that is. The fact is after 30+ years of "peace process", of generous peace proposals, of giving land, we have gotten this. A terrorist army invading our territory and commiting the worse mass murder of Jews since the Holocaust. And if we were to leave the West Bank - like we left Gaza - the result would be the same.
Quite frankly, we are sick of this shit. The Arabs don;t want their own state - what they want is to destroy ours. So yeah, right now and in the forseeable future we will not allow the establishment of ANOTHER hostile ISIS enclave on our borders.
And the Palestinians have no one but themselves to blame.

In lauding Israel’s restraint in not yet having completely annihilated the Palestinians even as the IDF targets doctors and aid workers for assassination while bulldozing Palestinian cemeteries, Mr.
They are all atheist and have no purpose in life and the need to be part of something "big" makes them do things like this. Their politics is their religion and they want to participate in it like the Islamic Jihadists with their extreme religion thinking they will change the world. While most conservatives have a belief in a god and that gives them purpose and they are usually too busy with their families. I'm one of those few conservatives that don't believe and have no kids but I have no desire to be part of something "big". I take a practical view.

    Let's answer Bill's questions:
    1) *_"Why do you care about this particular cause?"_*
Because we as a nation are financing the entire operation. We are not paying for CHN or SYR to do what it does. But the current ISRL operation is an American financed activity. So we must have a say in what happens.
    2) *_Do you think blocking traffic is effective?"_*
It worked for the Civil Rights movement.
Disruption of day to day business is a critical part of any movement looking to significantly alter an un just status quo that persists primarily because it is convenient.
Blocking of traffic is the least damaging way of doing that. It certainly is a relatively minor inconvenience as compared to the "gen" it is attempting to stop.
