Stuff we use:
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq

What are your thoughts about evil characters?
We live in a culture that is terrified of making judgements, so we are unable to acknowledge evil. Evil doesn't require other people. Evil is a self-centeredness that devours the whole world and then turns on itself - "Oft evil will shall evil mar." His talk about the other is fashionable crap. Fashionable crap is the enemy of art.
Look up dark tetrad. Especially sadism.
Most of the time they aren't thinking of themselves as doing evil, but believe they are doing the right thing. This is what can make some evils so very, cold, commonplace and dark. Like how well organized by computer cards the elimination of a certain group of people was handled (by an American corporate entity with a three letter name) by a so called master race during the second world war. I suggest everyone watch the 2003 Canadian documentary film "The Corporation" and the 2020 sequel "The New Corporation: The Unfortunately Necessary Sequel" if you want to understand about how pure evil in our society gets made legal.
Evil = Human LUST.
I've said it before, I'll say it again;
This man is a preacher!
You said it brother 😂
It stems from fear but is shown in all the seven deadly sins and not just human lust, but greed, arrogance and all the rest too.
The Zek from the first Jack Reacher movie - when the attorney asks him, "don't you have enough?" And he replies that there is no such thing as enough, we take because it is there and we can. That is evil. Evil, true evil, is the complete disregard for anyone or anything outside the self. It is, mercifully, rare. There aren't that many people who are truly evil. Jerks yes, but truly evil, no. Most of the time, evil can't recognize itself in the mirror. But a truly evil person, like the Zek, not only can recognize their own evil, but likes what they see starting back.
Thank you for another great video!
Evil is a human concept and we're a social species, so we view cooperative behavior as good, and egotistical behavior as bad.

@@JackManhire Ah yes... I'd forgot: To oppose the wave of energy and purpose that is God. To differ from his command and to ignore one's true calling. This is one of the definitions of Evil; absolutely.
Probably my favorite medium of storytelling is tabletop role playing games. And I was just listening to Brennan Lee Mulligan on a podcast the other day, and he was talking about those times when he’s playing an evil character. In it Brennan defines evil as selfishness to the point where you would do anything, hurt anyone to get what you want.
Interesting this topic in film got posted, I was just thinking today the concrete line between evil and good. In my view that is anyone who goes out of their way to deliberately steal joy from others for their own pleasure. Also there’s probably a spectrum of evil. The obvious is the obvious, but there are evil people out there who are subtle like stepping on people while climbing the ladder to success
We all harbor evil inside of us and some of us get sick enough and the evil overtakes us
WOW love this guy so insightful! we need more of him! ^_^
I alway look inside myself for evil. But when evil looks back at me I blink.
Definitely not me, but it is great to hear other perspectives.
Try some other, it can help to realize evil or to have a different approach to subject
As Pacino said, "Vanity... my favorite sin" in "The Devil's Advocate".
Interesting. I too believe that morals are relationship based rather than harm centered. Supporting healthy relationships vs. destructive in some way. Offensive to others in some way vs. encouraging or at least harmonious. I too think this is the point of biblical morality.
"It is better to be evil than be nothing."
-T.S. Eliot
This reminds me of a book I read over 25 years ago which was very useful to me in helping me to grow up and start taking full responsibility for my life called: "Transforming Your Dragons" by Jose Stevens. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in personal growth, as well understanding their own character, and the characters of others.
People do bad or even horrible things all the time for entirely understandable reasons like robbing a store to pay for you or your families medical bills...its in human nature to prioritize you and your families safety first so while the act can be evil, the person doing it is not.
so i'd probably say Evil is the act of inflicting suffering on others not for self preservation, but for the sake of satisfying your own impulses or ego...like amber heard.
