Regarding the extent of control of the CNT-FAI in Catalonia, from what I've read so far, it appeared that they were the dominant force. There was collaboration with the central government through the Generalitat, as well as cooperation with the UGT, but they were the undisputed force in Catalonia and controlled almost every aspect of people's lives in the region. So, to make everything less complicated, I put them under the republican government but with a separate color. They "joined" the government as a way to avoid antagonizing the central government while still making their own decisions. For the Interprovincial Council of Santander, Palencia and Burgos (ICSPB in the video), I decided to put it in a lighter purple because out of all these councils this council stood out for being the least radical out of all the councils I've read.

Two of my great-grandfathers and one grandfather fought in that war. Only the latter came back home, the other two "disappeared", so we don't know the story. My grandfather became a general, and was ordered to cover the retreat of the republican army from Aragon and then Catalonia. He was eventually captured after defending a hill for days. He was sent to a prison camp and then to jail. Years after the war ended he was freed, his home was destroyed during the bombings so he rented a room, my grandmother was the one who rented it and they ended up marrying. He was routinely visited for years by the authorities to check if he was doing something suspicious. He died just days after the dictatorship ended.
what happened in the old days were a competitive and academic disaster. these damages to the public perception of history need to be fixed otherwise we will make exaggerations and simplifications of everything that we will distort history, i call jake mapping as joke mapping because of what he did to philippine history and it was a very disgraceful sight and it got personal, i almost had a stroke watching how he mutilated philippine history

I must congratulate you for the research and effort you’ve putted on that work, wich indeed must be recognised because that type of videos are not easy to make, you have added various important focuses of the war, like the Leon-Asturias guerrilla insurgency, and have clearly showed the progression on the takeover of Extremadura and portrayed the “Casado coup” (wich despite being crucial to understand the definitive surrender of the Spanish Republic is not showed on most of the videos portraying the Spanish Civil war). With that said, and because I have deeply studied this conflict, I must also point out some flaws in the portrayal of the situation made in this video: The most important one I think, is that the CNT-FAI, despite having a great influence and controling a lot of local Anti-fascist Militia Comitees, they did definitely not control all Catalonia, the region was administered from the beginning to the end of the war by the autonomous government of the “Generalitat de Catalunya” that was an integral part of the Spanish Republic, and despite the CNT acting on his own authority on many local comitees and having autonomy as an organitzation, they did not rebel against this government until May 1937, and the insurrection was mainly in the city of Barcelona, in the rest of Catalonia some local comitees (specially those controlled by the CNT-FAI itself or by the anti-stalinist marxist organitzation POUM) supported the insurrection, but most of them sided with the republican government. On the other hand, most regional comitees like the Madrid Defence Junta or the Valencia Executive Comitee were not independent from the republican government in any way, they were organisms within the Republican government aparatus created to better coordinate the war effort and the supression of those who were supportive of the military coup and the rebel faction, the same can be said of the inter-provincial council of Asturias and León until the 24th August 1937, when it declared it’s full sovereignty when their communications with the central government were cutted by the fascist forces (in that case showing the council as independent since its comformation avoided that to be properly showed). Regarding the Basque Government, it acted as an administrative autonomy just like the Generalitat government in Catalonia did, and was a part of the Spanish Republic as well. The Regional Defence Council of Aragon acted the facto as a separate entity, so in that case I think that the different color may be justified, but not in the other cases. To correct that without deminishing the amount of information that you represent, I think that the best option would be to represent the regional comitees with a light-purple tone, and if you want to represent the May 1937 clashes between the CNT-FAI and the republican government you can highlight Barcelona (also Madrid can be highlighted as the battle for Madrid lasted for most of the war). (As an idea, It would have also been interesting to portray the short-lived anti-Franco falangist uprising in Salamanca that ocurred between the 16th and 17th of April 1937). Pd: Sorry for bad english, I’m not a native speaker.
Also I may point out that even if Majorca became indeed a military base for italian troops (specially it’s airforcre) during the war, the political administration allways resided within the Spanish rebel military government, the change in color may seem like the italians occupied the island on their own and not to aid Franco (the foreign support or intervention can be showed in the legend).
they lasted till ww2, forming the federation of guerrillas of galicia-leon (es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federaci%C3%B3n_de_Guerrillas_de_Le%C3%B3n-Galicia ), and there were a lot of other guerrilla groups that im too lazy to mention but they were everywhere around spain before, during and after ww2. these groups were only one of the factors that prevented franco from joining the axis. i have a friend that knows a lot more about these incidents (www.youtube.com/@pepitamapping)
I'm from Asturias, my grandma told me stories about these people, they called them "homes del monte" (mountain men) and she told me they'd steal money from the guarda civil and use it to pay for food, she told me that after the war they were very hungry and these mountain men shared food with her family and they let them sleep with the donkeys in exchange.

No, nationalists were against the republic. Only a minority (both from the left and right) really wanted a republic. It was the clash between the clerical fascism and the far-left (both communists and anarchists).

A big percentage of the army before the coup was more republican than monarchist, etc. And, yes, part of the coup starts with part of then shouting "Viva la Republica" and using the three color flag before the unification

@@Marcosespartano El control no era del gobierno de la república. Belarmino Tomás declaro la soberanía del consejo y formó su propio gobierno. No es que se separaran completamente claro, pero formaron su propio gobierno a isntancias del de la república.
Tanto el gobierno de la Generalitat, como el de País Vasco, CRDA, Asturias y demás, ejercieron su propia política de defensa, incluso teniendo sus propios ejércitos que no cumplían las órdenes del Gobierno Central, o las cumplían a su manera. Ocuparon oportunamente un vacío de poder. Si bien tampoco se puede decir que fueran plenamente independientes, claro.

Tanto el gobierno de la Generalitat, como el de País Vasco, CRDA, Asturias y demás, ejercieron su propia política de defensa, incluso teniendo sus propios ejércitos que no cumplían las órdenes del Gobierno Central, o las cumplían a su manera. Ocuparon oportunamente un vacío de poder. Si bien tampoco se puede decir que fueran plenamente independientes, claro.
