  • Team USA has crashed out of the 2023 FIBA World Cup and for the 2nd time in as many tournaments, Team USA will go without a medal. In the wake of the USA's defeat to Canada reports surfaced that several prominent NBA stars such as LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant were considering joining Team USA for the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Has the world truly caught up to the USA in basketball, or is this just the start of Team USA's Revenge Tour?

That is 100% the biggest issue. I’m European and I know for a fact that players here love playing for the national teams and feel pride in representing their country. American players just seem entitled and not actually proud of representing their country. The notion of “ oh we don’t need to send our best players to win “ isn’t something that happens in European sports. You always send your best, and you damn sure don’t have your best players not wanting to play for the national team. If anything, it’s the opposite where you have to push washed players out of the national team because they still want to play but just aren’t good enough anymore.

I'm convinced that Noah Lyles saying "World Champions? Of what? The United States?" was a strategic maneuver on his end to essentially secure at the very least a podium finish for the USA Basketball team at the Olympics. He knew that since the USA wasn't gonna bring their best at the FIBA World Cup that the USA team probably wasn't gonna medal at that tournament. By saying this, all the actual NBA superstars paid attention and got all up in their feelings when USA didn't medal. (and letting Dillon Brooks of all people drop a 40 piece for canada to get the bronze for Canada probably didn't help either). So, instead of potentially coming to the Paris 2024 olympics with a few pieces from this team and maybe a few superstars, Lebron is assembling the damn NBAvengers. Lebron, Durant and Curry as a starting trio is fucking SCARY.

@@fluffymyato3334they do have fundamentals, they just don’t teach defense, or how to share a ball. The international teams are taught how to operate as team, the USA teams are taught how to play individually. I don’t necessarily agree with the whole lacking fundamentals, the American players not being talented, and not being good arguments. but hey at the end of the day it’s just a whole bunch of nobodies arguing and joking across the internet, that have no actual knowledge of basketball and are happy they finally beat the US at basketball. So I just roll my eyes and scroll.
With that being said the 2020 Olympics was a rocky start for them and it goes to show that the other leagues are elevating their players with their old school rules and coaching, while the NBA isn’t really developing their new guys properly with all the new school rules and coaching.
Also 4th truly isn’t terrible considering, their entire team was carried and led by a 20 yr old rookie. But also the NBA should truly use this as a wake up call to start taking basketball seriously again.
Plus I hate that the innocent USA team, that didn’t even even say anything are getting dragged into the middle of this. When they truly weren’t bad, the Americans are wrong for degrading their own players and the foreigners are wrong for their insensitive comments.
At the end of the day, It’s natural to win and lose at a sport, even if you’re the best, it’s part of the game.
People are only going so hard because it’s the US that lost. I can guarantee you even if they got bronze, they would still be clowned. The very praises that Canada are getting for bronze would not be the same if the USA got bronze. And Noah Lyles clearly just said shit to stir this up. So yeah fuck him.

I have to defend my boy Walker Kessler for a second. He is definitely a dominant big, getting 4th for blocked shots and wasn’t even starting for the first third or fourth of the season. Coach Kerr didn’t have him play hardly at all and when he did, he was having him play on the perimeter a ton. I don’t think Coach Kerr is a bad coach I just think that the warriors system works fantastic for the warriors but is not viable for any other team. As evident in team USA’s defeats. Get a coach they knows how to utilize Kessler (like Coach Hardy at the jazz) and you’ll see how amazing Kessler can be. Okay, jazz rant over. Love y’all’s videos, keep ‘em coming.

To me the biggest issue that superstars don’t really care about representing the US in international competition. I think it was Jimmy Butler that said something like “nobody cares about the World Cup” in any other sport representing the US is considered an honor, to any other country representing the national team at weather that be FIBA, AmeriCup or the Olympics is considered an honor. To most NBA superstars is just a way to feel like a paid vacation where they don’t really have to try cause they feel entitled to the gold and in my opinion that’s where the real problem lies.

Based on the available talent, there is no question at the US should have one every single international competition in history
What separates the US and other countries is the fact that the US has very little roster continuity, and overall I think we play down to the competition in terms of team basketball. These US guys get together with a brand new roster every couple years, practice for three weeks, and then expect to go compete against other teams with multiple years of chemistry that simply just play harder than the US. It sure looks like Serbia or Germany cares more when you watch the games.

Well said. Coach K had the right idea when he was put in charge. He kept the same core guys, brought certain really big stars and surrounded them with some quality specialist role players. The USA might have been able to just patch a team of random players together and win in the past, but not anymore. Even if they manage to bring the 'Avengers', it's not done and dusted. If Serbia for example is at full strength they'll have a really good shot at beating anyone the US brings.

Joel Embiid choosing to join team USA when he could join France would be like giving an older brother a handgun when he was fighting with his baby brother, he’s one of the biggest foreign names in basketball idk why he would ever choose the U.S.

He is more American than French tho. He never lived in France, probably never even visited France before asking for the French nationality.
The French basketball federation doesnt even really want him to play for them because it seem unfair to give a spot on the team to someone who's not really French, it's not like Embiid is not joining the team by is own decision.
