The key thing is to do everything by the book and not try to take short-cuts. Before I relocated to the Philippines I transferred USD 15,000 every month for two years. I informed my own bank, the bank in the Philippines to which it was being transferred and, through my lawyer, the authorities. I had all the necessary paperwork to prove it was legally obtained. This was never questioned. When my wife and I relocated permanently I transferred a considerable sum of money, generated by the sale of property. Again, I informed the authorities and was required to complete some paperwork. All that the authorities in the Philippines required was proof of the source of the money, I presume to address the issue of money laundering. I had a brief interview with a consular official and everything was fine. Yes, it all amounted to a degree of bureaucracy, but hardly enough to make my life difficult and ultimately everything was official.

Good morning to you Jennifer, I always put my hundreds in between a book a month or two before I get there because some places refuse to take it if it's even has a little bent corner. But when I exchange it I get the nastiest looking old dirty pesos you can't believe, wrinkled and dirty. Why do sometimes I have to go to two or three places to exchange them? Why are they so particular about US dollars? (Ricky)===:::

If you are carrying a lot of money, you should declare it. Why? Cause there have been instances where they will take your money and will force you to pay a fee to get that money back. So in the end, just declare the money, nothing bad about it.

The $10,000 amount is per family so you only make one customs declaration form. I have yet to try making separate declaration forms if I am traveling with an adult family member so we can each carry $10,000. No policy against this. Although I did bring back more than $10,000 once and I declared it, no extra steps at immigration. Iba naman yung asawa ng politiko na labis sa $200,000 ang dinala at hindi pa idineclare eh di huli.
