  • This is a review of the Uni-T UT161D multimeter for use in hobby electronics projects primarily related to amateur radio.
A pdf document of this review: 1drv.ms/b/s!ArY0uP2JPdTZhqBY5...
his review was produced to help you decide if the Uni-T UT161D multimeter will fit your purpose and budget. This is part of a series of multimeters reviews.
Here is a link to the DMMCheck Plus site I mentioned in the video: dmmcheckplus.com
A good multimeter for hobby electronic projects should be able to measure millivolts, volts, microamps, milliamps, amps, ohms, nanofarads and microfarads.
If you want to measure picofarads, nanohenry, microhenry or reactance you will need a LCR meters. I cover the two LCR meters I own in another review.
I am not a professional, I am a hobbyist. This review is not sponsored; I bought this multimeter with my own money. I only used and tested this multimeter in CAT I and CAT II environments. I do not have a way to review or test the safety of this meter. I leave the CAT III and CAT IV environments to trained and licensed professionals. It may seem like I am a Fluke fan boy, but I recognize their flaws along with their advantages. There may be unintended mistakes and/or errors in this review.

Hola !! Excelente el video con la revisión muy completa del multímetro Uni-t, modelo: UT161D.
En base a éste video y las excelentes mediciones que se obtuvieron del multímetro, y el bajo costo que tiene, voy a comprarlo sin ninguna duda.
    Muchas gracias y saludos !!

I've had one of these a while, and find to be a very good and featured DMM - especially for the price. Feature packed, very accurate but of course precision leaves a bit to be desired at only 6k counts.
As for your negatives: Backlight is fine, it does its' job, making the display perfectly readable at low or no light situations. The little beep-pause after a second in continuity test is unusual. I've noticed the visual confirmation (Green light at top) coincides turning on with this pause. Since it do not happen with the 61E model, I'll assume it is some firmware issue. Whilst a bit odd, I can't say I mind it. In continuity testing speed is key, and this one is plenty fast. The little beep every time you turn the dial or click a button can get a bit annoying - but in ordinary use, it's not like one is changing function or range every few minutes.
So all in all the negatives are more niggles than proper issues. Your more advanced electronics tinkerer can't go wrong getting this if/when stepping up from the cheap'o'meter class of device most beginners get. Great bang for buck factor, great feature set and seems solidly built. Only thing I personally miss from this meter is Auto Hold. That would be very convenient to have, but alas no such luck.

_I have a UT 161 B and it doesn't have a probe for measuring temperature. I'm not sure if it's very accurate when measuring capacitors._
