  • Post-Gazette insiders Andrew Destin and Jason Mackey react to Paul Skenes' first Grapefruit League start of Pirates spring training against the Baltimore Orioles in Sarasota, Fla. How did the No. 1 overall pick look against MLB hitters? Does he belong in the team's rotation alongside names like Mitch Keller, Marco Gonzales and Martin Perez right now? And if the Pirates choose not to sign or trade for another starting pitcher between now and opening day, is keeping Skenes and Henry Davis on the roster a move that could ease fans' anger about a quiet offseason from GM Ben Cherington? Our duo tackles those questions and more. Then later in the video, Skenes speaks about the start in his own words.

Right now on March 1st, I would err on the side of “it was 10 pitches”. That could change when he gets more spring training work.

Skenes needs to start in the Minors. Davis won't.
