I watched and loved your video on building Brenard, and I'm excited to watch this! I would love to pick your brain on what I want the deck to do sometime, hah. I built Brenard as my first commander deck in September, and I absolutely adore it, but it's usually a little too high power for my table, and I need to decide if wanting it to win, or just wanting to play with it, is more important!
I'm opening up my discord this weekend so we can chat more there but I recently had to make this decision this month - I think the answer is you should play to win with it but that win doesn't have to be overpowered. I found myself having a lovely time, creating all sorts of copies, multiple ETB's but I noted my play group were just watching me durdle and showboat! So I've worked on the win con part to close out the game. But that doesn't answer the high power bit - I'll have a look at a list if you have one?
@@mtgspecs ahhhh I’m so sorry for the crazy late response, life happens and my brain often goes topsy turvy dealing with life and trying to socialize! Okay so I would love to join the discord, and I will search for that link soon, but I can absolutely get together a list of my deck, and it means a lot that you’d even look over it! My problem is that I’m always so concerned about my friends having a good time that while I do have a lot of powerful cards in my deck, often times I have a hard time winning on an emotional level and so will durdle around and hope someone kills me while do I fun things but don’t close out the game. So I think it’s partially just about acceptance that it’s okay to win as long as you don’t make the play experience miserable for the people you play with.
@@Jlizard27 Agreed - you are owed at least 25% of the wins, being 1 out of 4, so embrace the odds. The discord hasn't been set up yet - I too hail from the same place as your brain - I will drop the details once I've got through some Thunder Junction stuff. I hear you though and your friends are lucky to have someone who considers their enjoyment - this is not the case with all players.
@@mtgspecsI’m sure I could completely overthink the pathology of someone like me who will actively find ways to try to have everyone else except me win, but for now I will definitely try to take that into account. And dang, I will try not to spend too much time blowing smoke or just doing compliment-tag, but knowing there are others like me out there is incredibly refreshing and reassuring, as it can be hard to navigate competitive environments sometimes when you’re more concerned that everyone is happy, hah, and people don’t always handle losing well! Excited for your opinions on OTJ, and curious to maybe compare some of our new slot-ins for Brenard from OTJ and The Big Score!
Okay, as far as a deck list goes… is it better to message directly, or just post here in a comment? I’m procrastinating slightly because 1. I have spent entirely too much money on this deck, and I don’t want to give the impression that I’m Mr. Moneybags or something, hah, this deck has just received the majority of my spare money and emotional energy during a particularly rough stretch of months in my life, so if it seems a bit excessive, that’s why. But 2. What if it’s actually a complete mess?! My deck is so heavily built around my own playgroup’s meta where certain types of interaction are frowned upon, and I’ve also not played Magic outside of this group of 4 in several years, so it just might be built in a way that makes sense given my group, but wouldn’t be good in general. But I am happy to share :)
