- As a massive movie buff, I'd like to look at the top 10 movie tie in games. To make this list the games need to follow most of the plot from the movie or work as a companion piece to the movie. We all know some really bad movie games, so let's take a look at some fun ones.
What movie games would make your top 10 movie tie in games?

Those Matrix games are so solid. Peak childhood memories grinding those.
This man picks Enter the Matrix when The Matrix: Path of Neo exists and is a much better game...
He literally mentions wanting to play as Neo... I don't think he knows that Path of Neo even exists lol
You start out by saying that to qualify for the list a movie must follow the plot of a movie, but then go on to talk about Enter the Matrix, which has a completely unique plot from any of the Matrix movies. What's the deal?
Yes it's canon to the movies, but it doesn't follow the plot of any of the movies. Ghostbusters: The Videogame is the same, and yet you disqualify that.
Didn't it lead into the Matrix Revelations? 🤔 While stretching the definition it could be considered the opening act maybe
its happening concurrent with the second movie
I think it's also insane because he clearly states that it can be a 'companion piece', and Ghostbusters: The Videogame completely fits into this. Ghostbusters: Afterlife even acknowledges its existence!
His scripts are written by AI at this point.
Enter the Matrix ties directly into the plot of The Matrix Reloaded, but shown from the perspective of two side characters. It's more like The Godfather game than Ghostbusters, which is canon but does not intersect directly with any of the movies.
Ok, I haven't watched the whole vid yet, but for real if Goldeneye isn't here, I'll rage.
King Kong 2005 is sorely missed
I know right?
I'm shocked Scott Pilgrim vs. The World The Game isn't Jirard's number one! But maybe that counts as a comic book game instead? Hard to say.
Pretty sure the game came out before the movie.
@@joshuabean7805 True, if only by a couple days. Its development was parallel to the film and had input from the film's director, Edgar Wright (one of the greatest directors of all time). I would call it a film tie-in, but it could certainly be open to interpretation.
@joshuabean7805 it launched the same week. It was meant to capitalize on the movie hype. Not the comic as much.
@@NordicAndNerdyIt's like X-Men Wolverine's Revenge. Both have elements that are inspired by the films but their plots and overall tone is more like the source material
While not the best, the Harry Potter games where a big part of my childhood, specialy the pc versions of the first three. And while the focus more on the books, they where released alongside the movies and hit the same plot points, so yeah, I think they fit in this category, specially since you would be pretty lost if you didn't read the books or watched the films, making them more of a companion piece than a game adaptation.
The Warriors was the best movie tie in IMO
Severely underrated
Recently replayed it on the PS4 and it aged like wine, it still holds up
in in my opinion, do you have brain damage?
@@DPhoenixMMA Well, do you?
The Goldeneye remake went even harder and then the Hulk 2003 game went harder than it had any right to. Also, the Genesis Jurassic Park games were so good.
Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith is a great one. The combat was a lot of fun, especially with boss fights. And although it didn't amount to much, it was cool having the alternate ending where Anakin kills Obi Wan.
The DS version of Episode 3 was also good. Going from an action game to a side scroller beat-em-up in the same vein as streets of rage or The Simpsons arcade game.
You need a commenters edition! Chronicles of Narnia and King Kong game please!!!
Do the Lego games count? Lego Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter?
But also The Warriors. That movie is really good and so is the game.
Where is Chronicles of Riddick??? 😭😭😭
Ooooh yeah I've heard of that game, never seen it fully but the movies where great
Was escape from butcher bay based on one of the movies or was it its own story? Cause that might explain it.
Are those good?
Great game.

Having grown up dirt poor, I have never wanted to take part in a food fight. That shiz ain't free 😂
Hook is unironically in my top 3 Spielberg films.
Ratchet & Clank 2016 actually just got a surprise update on PS5 that gives it a 60 fps mode! I'm super excited about that. I was okay with the 30 fps, but 60 fps I think is just... ahhh.
And both versions got updated to include the Bouncer for FREE 🎉
Does that count? 2016 is a remake of the original and the movie doesn't follow that game at all, it just came out alongside it.
Peter Jackson king Kong the game is way better than it has any right to be. Such a good game
Golden eye is my all time with oot Zelda
The Warriors is one of the best movie to game adaptations, a great beat em up from a 70's cult classic film, taking the plot of the film and fleshing out the story behind the titular gang as well as events leading into the start of the film. It controls great, captures the vibe and tone of the source material, and is absolutely a gem hidden in Rockstars library of classics. I still have my PS2 copy and will never part with it.
Godfather is definitely an underrated gem. I wish it was available on modern consoles because it was more fun to me than GTA. Unfortunately, I'm sure it is in license heck.
Sometimes I like to think Shadowrun on Genesis is based on a movie based on me. Does that count?
Shadowrun was a full-time resident in my brain in middle-school.
I remember playing through the Genesis version DOZENS of times.
It's also the franchise I first remember getting super pissed that a developer had screwed up the lore in (SNES version).
SR is ALSO the reason I don't use any crowd funding, nor will I buy anything from Hair Brained Schemes again, since their recent SR games are just generic CRPGs with a poorly done coat of SR paint.
Idk man, I really like that Mario guy's game base off his movie
Me too, great choice
Super Mario Bros. 3 was such a great tie-in game from The Wizard. :)
@6:00 Did you ever play The Third Age? Aka FFX: Middle Earth Addition?
The first Iron Man game was awesome
That mummy game reminds me a lot of the game "Aliens Infestation" on the Nintendo DS. I wonder if it was made by the same people
Yup, WayForward lol.
The Mummy wasn't complete trash. It was the best of its tired, played-out genre. Not sure why people didn't like it, but like other movies that are exactly like it (Superhero, generic action, etc.), that's just inconceivable to me
One of my relatives was one of the screenwriters on Hook! I believe her main contributions were Dustin Hoffman's lines as Captain Hook.
Please share with them that that movie is one of my favorite movies of all time. :D
What the hell. I never would’ve known Dustin Hoffman played hook
The Cars game was one of my favorite games when it came out. Still a top tier movie tie in game
Aladdin on Genesis was good 👍
GREAT more like it, from the Graphics to the Music to the challenging Gameplay.
Not sure if I agree with the list, but this is a great topic for conversation at least, and I think a lot of the choices were respectable.
Scarface: The World Is Yours was awesome. Like an alternate ending to the movie. What if Tony Montana survived the raid on his house and rebuild his empire
spider-man 2 was an absolute banger. i also really loved toy story 2: buzz lightyear to the rescue.
I’ve played the 1995 Power Rangers movie game on sega genesis. Great game and I still have fond memories and nostalgia of the 1995 movie.
King kong 2005 is the goat of movie games the GOAT
It's funny how the Wolverine game was way better than the movie, but hey it was metal (pun very intended) 😂
I do hope they'll make a new one where they cover all the wars Logan has been in from Civil War to the jungles in Nam
Though technically an extended special, I have to give a mention to SpongeBob Atlantis SquarePantis for the DS. It was a competent 3D platformer which expanded on the empty space between bikini bottom and Atlantis, and stands out compared to the console version
Not sure if it counts, but the Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora game is really great.
I'm not sure if this counts but Scarface is a fantastic game. If you were a fan of GTA and you seemed to like The Godfather, I would definitely recommend it for you. I wasn't a big GTA fan but I had a blast with Scarface. The game acts more like a sequel..ish. Watch the movie first, then play the game. It acts more of a "What If" the ending was just a little different. You essentially have Tony Montana rebuild his empire.
Movie to game, and vice versa is risky business, but there are definitely some amazing worlds to explore in.
Wolverine Origins is one of my absolute favorites. Easily the best thing that came out of Wolverine Origins movie (although I don’t think it was the worst movie aside from a few things, obviously the Deadpool portrayal)
I was hoping to see Lord of the Rings: The Third Age on this list. It might not be a direct tie in, the party follows in the footsteps of the fellowship, and the game uses live action clips from the movies.
Saw the aged graphics argument from a mile away. May I suggest playing the leaked XBLA version?
Aye Path of Neo on the Ps2 is beyond classic had to buy it again years later one of the best movie games everrr!!!!
I have to throw my love of ANY of the LEGO games done by Traveler's Tales The Harry Potter Franchise, the Avengers, Lord of the Rings, Jurassic Park, Pirates of the Caribbean, Indiana Jones, it feels like games done by real fans of the movies done about them.
RARE really was the king back then.
I really liked Enter the Matrix, it was cool getting another story happening at the same time as the movies
I preferred Path of Neo personally
It's definitely a niche market and demand that doesn't exist anymore. I remember Star Wars Phantom Menace having about a dozen games during it's release.
I loved Enter The Matrix…I wanted a Neo game too until we got it…which wasn’t as good as this one
Are any of the games from the original The Mummy series any good? I also have a deep LOVE for those movies even with their flaws, and I’ve never played any games related to them. I actually didn’t know any existed besides some awful looking Scorpion King ones I’ve seen at some point
@9:00 My FAVORITE part of that Spiderman game was the bowling alley. They got Bruce Campbell to do the PA announcer and some of his lines were absolutely hilarious.
You may want to play the hotel Transylvania game on the 3ds. It's a metroidvania made by the same team that did the Mummy game
yeah, Godfather was amazingly good. I came to it not having seen the movie yet and I was impressed. Was crazy impressed a dying BRANDO recorded lines for it, even though they were deemed good enough to get included!!
I grew up with the TMNT 2007 tie-in game for the pc/Xbox360 and I loved it as much as the movie. Even if it was a little hard for me at the time lol.
Whats the name of the song from LotR that is playing during its segment?
WOAH NELLY! where’s King Kong bruh?!
Goldeneye 007 !
Sup Grimm
@@Telemachus2814 whaddup tele. Haha
@@Grimm-Gaming Fancy seeing you here
Hello.fellow.grimm
A few of my favorites are: A Bug's Life PS1, SpongeBob SquarePants Movie game, Monsters Inc. PS1, and Toy Story 2 PS1.
Im REALLY surprised the super star wars triogy wasnt on here. They were all really fun to play
Where is Cars the Videogame?
Quantum of Solace on 360 was fun online, absolutely loved it
Shrek 2 and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets are some of my all time favorites
i personally liked the Handheld Harry Potter games, most of them were RPGs rather than Platformers.
I spent hours playing Home Alone 2 on Game Boy. I never did figure out that elevator. 😥
Yeees!! I was getting nervous when Goldeneye hadn't come up yet 🎉 I never played Ghostbusters for the NES, but I gather it isn't that good?
Reservoir Dogs the game is pretty fun, at least to someone who loves the movie, it is to see things that were included in the film. And Superman Returns is probably the best superman game, we need a new one of those stat.
What I like most about your top ten list is that it’s your top ten list.
It’s not the most popular or most known. It’s just your opinion and sometimes it seems people ether won’t do that or feel they need to justify their opinion.
At best, movie tie games expand the enjoyment of some property. At worst, it can sour or even ruin my enjoyment.
A very underrated Movie tie in game is The warriors for the PS2
0:17 Sunset Boulevard there, right?
Mr.Demille, I’m ready for my close up!
There's a sequel to nightmare before Christmas videogame that has good combat, original songs and rhythm based sections. It's called oogies revenge or something like that
Alien 3, jurassic park and batman begins
The Father (2020) should've gotten a movie tie in game.
The Scorpion King (PS2) - it takes place just before the timeline of the movie, explaining what happened to the Akkadians that made it to where Mathias, his Brother and another Akkadian was all that remained of their tribe. there is also a GBA tie-in that tells the story of what happened between The Scorpion King movie and how Mathias went bad in The Mummy Returns.
Peter Jackson’s King Kong is also an underrated Tie-in
I like to give a mention to Happy Feet 2 (clapping with all your collected penguins, is crazy satisfying)
and of course, the varies LEGO games
also does Detective Pikachu count? I despice the movie, but really enjoy the games
Nah
When I saw the title of this vid my first thought was... "Mummy De-Mastered" Good choice!
But Ratchet and Clank is NOT a movie tie-in anymore than Mario Bros is...
I take umbrage...UMBRAGE I tell you!
Van Helsing was an underrated movie that had a really underrated game
Ratatouille on PSP is underrated
I played the Gamecube version, but I remember really liking it a lot as well.
I don't hear it get brought up a lot but Ghost Rider is probably my favorite game based on a movie. tbh not sure if i can call it a movie tie-in since the plots are connected but not 1 to 1. but they did come out within 3 days of each other, so take that as you will.
Still, DMC/God of War-esque hack and slash combat, fun motorcycle sequences and a grisly art style? cool as hell
4:58 That makes two of us
Ratchet & Clank 2016 was also my introduction to the franchise
Best part about Enter The Matrix is that it's 100% canon to the films
Spider-Man 2 the game was the GOAT for me! Still blows my mind that the devs made a world that massive with so many nooks & crannies AND barely any load screens. Legend.
that is a nice list and all, specially with the mummy demastered and aladdin for the genesis buuuut.... where is peter jacksons king kong?
Say what you want about the films but Transformers Dark of the Moon had a great game which was a prequel to the movie.
I've played a fair few movie tie-in games over the years, but honestly, beyond Aladdin on the SNES and Genesis, not many of them stuck in my memory. I certainly do recall playing through 007, but the majority of the time, I used cheats to get through it, as I just couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong, back in the day, though me being relatively young at the time probably didn't help. The multiplayer in 007 definitely DID eat up a vast majority of my time with the game, playing it with friends and just having a good time finding different ways to murder each other, coming up with our own match-rules to spice things up, and so on, even if nowadays I'd probably never want to touch the game again, due to how poorly the controls have aged. That all aside, that was a fun top ten, looking forward to whatever ya got coming down the pipeline next, Jirard.
I grew up on Hook. It's awesome to see somebody recognize the game for it's awesomeness.
Man...
Thought you would have had Scarface on here
I miss Movie Tie-In Games. My favorite one was a tie between Cars 2 & Madagascar the game.
The LotR games on PS2 were frigging amazing. My best friend and I used to play RotK for hours and hours together as teenagers
Lego The Incredibles is a pretty good adaptation of the second and first movies. Plus when not playing through the movie missions you can go and take on new villains created just for the game.
Battle for Middle Earth and it's sequel are a lot of fun. It is an RTS game for PC in the mid 2000s right after the movie trilogy ended
Is that Xander Mobus doing the countdown numbers?
Ye
Hopefully the next Top 10 is the worst tie in games.
I put so many hours into The Godfather on PS2, trying to see how quickly I could complete the game. I think I had it down to 18 hours and 50 minutes. Super fun game.
Dood! What about The Warriors?? Both on PSP and PS2.. GREAT GAME
Lego Star Wars 1 and 2, and Star Wars episode 3 game were awesome
Hook was legit a good game
Real mfs know bout Toy Story 3 tie-in game
