I share your childhood nostalgia, Lauren.
In your Power of the Doctor reaction you mentioned how much of a father figure you saw in the Tenth Doctor and it made me realise something I could never put into words. He absolutely is a father figure. For any Gen Z kid who grew up in the 2000s, he was the perfect role model, all his anti-gun stuff from Series 4, his balance between fun and serious, his serious humanity that bleeds from his portrayal of the Doctor, was everything I could ever want in a fictional hero.
So watching this earlier, with a hot chocolate on the settee, in the same living room I spent so many nights in my youth watching this show, all those memories of watching David dash about, coat billowing behind him with a stoic look on his face, came flooding back.
Russell stated recently “where I’m taking the show means this isn’t a kids show anymore” and he’s kind of right, it’s a show he’s writing for those who’ve grown up with the show, and they’re all adults now, they’re all mature, so his decision to go for topics of our generation (being trans in this case of this episode) is an absolutely wonderful one.
And I’m totally here for it!
    Great reaction, hun!

Thank you for sharing these personal story at the end of your reaction, Lauren. I watched your Doctor Who Reacts for all the years now & I must say, I like to see how much you developed in your personality. You are such a wonderful person and your smile has become bigger. It's nice to see you're enjoying not only the Doctor but also finding & being yourself. Have a great time with the Doctor, with us as your viewers & with that beautiful life of yours ...

Congrats on your journey, Lauren! I've got family on a similar one and I just want you to know that the love in this world far outweighs the hate; the hateful just yell louder because they're scared of the world.
You're always one of my go to DW reactors and you never disappoint!

I’m an elder Queer fan of the Doctor, & this episode made me cry like a baby! I fully understood Rose’s feelings she relays to the Meep: it relates, for me, as much to my neurodiversity as to my place on the gender/sexuality spectrums.
Love your take, & your reaction - subbed immediately! 💜💜➕🟦

Lauren, Who you are is who you are, you owe us no explanation, we are just people on the internet.
As long as you're a good person and not evil, that's all we need to know.

Lauren, Your sincere and emotive reactions make great viewing, and your perspective is important, so I am pleased that you have put together this reaction, and that you felt you could share a little bit about yourself too. RTD has done us all a favour in placing themes, characters and issues in the real and unreal world of the Whoniverse. Surely part of his intention is to create a moment for more of us to open ourselves to the world with greater confidence.
I’m not young, in fact I can remember 1st doctor on the TV - live, and I did do that thing of peeking from behind the settee at the bit when he regenerated. It was a moment that has sat with me all these years. It’s a constant of Doctor Who that it marks our times better than most programmes, and I feel that this era -RTD2- will also be hugely significant for many, as it sweeps away more nonsensical convention and worse.
There is a line from a well loved song - sung here in Scotland at grand occasions, that I find myself taking comfort from it more often these days.
"So come all ye at hame wi’ Freedom,
Never heed whit the hoodies croak for doom.”
Your strength and dignity Lauren, gives weight to this sentiment.
I’m looking forward to more of your your warmth and delight in Who this coming year.
    Meep Meep!

The second special is the one we know least about, barely anything got leaked. They’ve been keeping it under wraps, and I’m pretty sure we’re getting Wilf next episode. Tennant teased it to be unlike any episode of Who before, so I’m really excited, and definitely not ready for all the emotions.

So happy when you drop a DW reaction, wouldn't be the same without you!
As for the episode, I loved it. I think Rose is a fantastic character and so happy to see representation on DW. That being said I did think some of the lines regarding the subject were about as subtle as a sledgehammer. Which is sad as they felt abit unnatural and cringe but overall a great start to the specials.

Jason means Healer or Physician. You could say Donna named her son Doctor. Her daughter took the name Rose. 🌹 Maybe TARDIS had something to do with that.

@@LaurenMcGinty12 For reference, just in case you weren't aware, the original Star Beast story ran in Doctor Who Weekly Nos 19-26, - which ran from Thursday February 20th 1980 to Thursday April 9th and was written by Pat Mills and drawn by Dave Gibbons in his back bedroom studio back in 1980. I used to grab DWW from John Menzies on the way to art college back in the day.

You are a brilliant person, Lauren, and you've always made fantastic videos, especially the Doctor Who ones that I've seen the most of.
The way you talked about being non binary just then, that in itself is going to be so helpful for anyone watching the video who is figuring this out for themselves, or on behalf of someone they care about. It actually brought a tear to my eye when you mentioned Yoda's line about 'luminous beings', because that's just how important shows and films like Star Wars, Trek, Doctor Who can be in helping someone connect and get through when they might feel isolated, different, trapped in a world where who they are as a person isn't understood or perhaps accepted. There is a place for EVERYONE in sci-fi. It's so moving for me, after watching your videos for so long, to see you grow into yourself. Take care! 😊
