    73 yards more like 73 questions ???

  • @goenmo

    So to summarize: As I understand it , the Doctor breaks the circle. Ruby is shunted into a time loop where somehow she is haunted by her future self. She uses her unique relationship with herself to stop Mad Jack (Roger ap Gwilliam) from escaping the loop into the real world. Then she has to live through the loop until the end/beginning comes round again so she can warn herself and prevent the circle from being broken. It is a sort of bootstrap paradox.
    As for the running away, I think there is a perception filter on Ruby. Whatever she is, getting close to the old lady version of her turns off the filter on the young version (like the filter can’t exist on both simultaneously). Whatever people see when they look back at the young version terrifies them, so they run away. There is this hypothesis running around that she is the Trickster’s daughter from Sarah Jane Adventures. Maybe she is? Or something even worse?

    My favourite episode in years. Masterful storytellying. Genuinely scary at times. Lovely character development. Totally different from what I expected. I'm sure lots of the remaining mystery will tie in with the finale BUT we don't need to be given all the answers. We know as much as Ruby does herself just like the tenth doctor in midnight. The complete intolerance for sophisticated, open endings from some modern audiences is absolutely bewildering to me.

    I give this a 10 out of 10. A+. This was brilliant and sad. Millie carried the whole show. She was really good. The locals in the Welsh bar were perfect. Kate from UNIT gives a clue talking about "this timeline." Sometimes a time travel adventure can leave you all alone and it takes your whole life to resolve it. Very well written show.

    After watching the whole season I think this has a new perspective... it's starting to seed more into the season the concept of how we handle things we don't understand... we make up our own reasons, or we obsess over trying to explain it... and in doing so we create it's importance... much like someone did in the last episode of the season... All these examples of various concepts of how we give importance to things and significance because we can't stand not knowing/understanding it...

    I'm going with parallel out-of-sync bubble reality. I was likening it to Turn Left, but you made the better analogy of The Curse of Clyde Langer. I do wonder if we'll ever get to 2046 again to deal with that Prime Minister, or perhaps that aspect was deal with. Maybe it was a reality alongside the normal one? Maybe all that happens in the future anyway, though wait The Doctor said that that guy did become the PM. So either Ruby changed time or just in that bubble she did. And I also looked up the fairy circles and nothing really specific about the curses, just that some of the folklore was that you'd get cursed. Though what it said about the circles also reminded me of the fairy episode of Torchwood, so I was expecting something close to that somehow. Though that would have been too scary XD. Though perhaps some entity was unbound by the breaking of the circle even though it was fixed, since that was a legend or myth and the lines between myths and reality is overlapping this season. Man RTD was right that we'd be thinking a lot about this episode XD.

    @user-dy5ku3gd7r Před měsícem

    I dont know about the woman's hand gestures and why exactly 73 yards, but i do have other theories.
    Where did the doctor go: he was the one who broke the fairy circle, so maybe his disappearance was a type of punishment. And why didnt Ruby disappear? She was the one who took the scroll about Mad Jack and read it, so taking down the PM had become her mission alone, although she didnt know it yet.
    Why did the woman make everyone hate Ruby: I feel like it was a defence mechanism, coz nothing should hamper Ruby's mission of dethroning the PM. If Unit, for example, successfully intervened and captured the woman, Ruby would have never been able to deal with the PM. So, its like: you try to approach her or talk to her, then you are repelled by her and driven away from Ruby, so that Ruby's mission can be completed without impediments or distractions. Nobody tried to approach the woman after Ruby dealt with the PM, so we don't know if this theory holds.
    There is no paradox. The episode occured in an alternate timeline. And in that timeline, Ruby stopped the PM from leading the "the world to the brink of nuclear war", to quote the Doctor. So there is no actual nuclear war. When the timeline is reset in the final scene, Ruby does not live a life where she will stop the PM, so it isnt a paradox. Her original timeline is restored. In the final scene, the doctor again tells Ruby about the dangerous PM. Going by the exact words of the Doctor, the PM will indeed come to power in 2046, but clearly doesn't do any catastrophic damage. He simply acquires the weapons for symbolism.
    This entire episode was in an alternate timeline and trying to be all meta coz in this alternate timeline, Doctor Who does not have a title sequence.

    @DanielRDrew Před měsícem +3

    Oh right the running. Hmm, I think perhaps it was something like she couldn't have accomplished what she did with the PM if she led a normal life. It was kind of like it was a forced destiny to be fated into this wraparound bubble timeline, so it forced her to be the kind of person who would be there at that time to do that task? Or something like that? XD

  • @kerouac.jackson
    @kerouac.jackson Před měsícem

    I think that fairy ring somehow trapped the Doctor away in a temporal prison within the space of Ruby's lifespan. She was somehow trapped seeing herself at the end of her lifespan, constantly separated by a distance of 73 yards (possibly each yard represents how many years she has left to live). And then when she finally died, everything snapped back, and the Doctor was released. And I guess the story that the people in Welsh bar were telling about the fairly ring trapping Mad Jack was about what the fairy ring did to the Doctor and not Mad Jack.

    • @LordLOC
      @LordLOC Před měsícem

      I don't think the Doctor was trapped anywhere - I think it was Ruby specifically who was trapped in that timeline she was in. I think the Doctor was just there until Ruby read the RIP Mad Jack thing and that's when the new timeline for Ruby was created and she was probably frozen in front of the Doctor for an instant (because that's how these timeline weirdo events work in Doctor Who, remember Turn Left?). Kate herself said this timeline was suspended along her event aka a timeline just for Ruby basically to figure out how to "fix" things or whatever.

    • @kerouac.jackson
      @kerouac.jackson Před měsícem

      @@LordLOC Maybe? I think an argument could be made for the Doctor being trapped inside the fairy ring, and Ruby being trapped outside it. The point seemed to be to keep them separated.

    • @LordLOC
      @LordLOC Před měsícem

      Mad Jack was just a dude, who was a bad guy who the Doctor mentioned becoming PM etc. So Ruby was thinking about him specifically when she read that RIP letter when that timeline was created just for Ruby. I'm pretty sure this implies that Mad Jack either died in the "real" timeline now, or never becomes PM as it is. Mostly because of how Ruby handled the situation in her timeline, and that she said she had been to Whales 3 times when it was only 2 and the 3rd was the cut off timeline event. Interestingly, she even remembers some of it, which is odd to be honest, adds to the mystery of who or what she might be.

    • @AndrewTeale-cy3dw
      @AndrewTeale-cy3dw Před měsícem +1

      He didn't set up Mad Jack, He set up the future PM Rodger ap Gwilliam. Presumably the actions of the Doctor and or Ruby allowed the mythical Mad Jack, or some essence of him, to escaped the fairy ring and infested the future PM. In the restored and original timeline Gwilliam takes the country to the brink of nuclear war. In the alternative timeline the button would have been pushed.

    • @LordLOC
      @LordLOC Před měsícem

      It makes perfect sense though. Ruby was stuck in a time loop or in an offshoot timeline of her own creation when she read the letters in the fairy circle. The old woman who was always there was just Ruby, and after saving the UK (and the world I guess?) from that Mad Jack PM guy, she just lived the rest of her days until the end where the timeline snapped back to the start and we literally saw things from old Ruby/the old woman's perspective until Ruby stopped the Doctor from stepping on the circle thus breaking the time loop. I kind of elaborated a bit much here but it makes perfect sense (in a Doctor Who way of course) and plays into Ruby being "wrong" or different for whatever reason.

    • @kant12
      @kant12 Před měsícem

      @@LordLOC So why did Kate abandon Ruby? And it wasn't exactly a timeloop was it? It was more like the same couple seconds of Ruby at the end of her life projected at a fixed distance from Ruby in all timeframes. Even though we never saw old/dying Ruby perform those movements. Which would have been nice if like she was actually trying to do something that only made sense at the end when we saw what it was.

    • @LordLOC
      @LordLOC Před měsícem

      @@kant12 I don't know why Kate and everyone else abandoned Ruby or ran away screaming. Maybe when confronting the old woman people saw it was old Ruby and just, I don't know, lost it for lack of a better term. Maybe the perception filter has something to do with it, who knows. Maybe it's because Ruby is "wrong" has something going on and it just made people get scared or what have you.
      And it would be more of a branched/splintered timeline than a timeloop but since things reset when older Ruby died and we then saw things from the old woman/Ruby's perspective at the end, it's a timeloop, of sorts lol

    • @kant12
      @kant12 Před měsícem

      @@LordLOC I also asked about Kate specifically because she didn't directly interact with old Ruby. Somehow just hearing something was enough.
      Plus most people seemed to go back to what they were doing. They didn't run away forever. When she stopped Roger momentarily you'd think he'd just have her fired and get back to work.
      And we didn't learn what happened to the Doctor the whole time. I could imagine maybe he got trapped somehow and the Tardis created the scenario to distract Ruby and change the past. But it still leaves a lot unanswered questions.
