    This week we build the 2 floating bed side tables! I have never built drawers before so this was a bit of a challenge, but they turned out fantastic and look very custom! I show you how to construct them step by step and take you through the entire process start to finish. I hope you enjoy and learn something along the way!

    This is perfect. I have avoided making drawers because it looks too hard. I'll stack 2 for desktop cabinet for crafting tools. Mine will be 4" high though. Thank you for this!

    Great video. I am building something similar, so looking for inspiration. Some tips I have come across. When attaching the drawer fronts, use the hardware holes (remove the handle) to temporarily screw the front to the box. Then open the draw, screw in from the back of the box, and then reattach handle. That does mean you will have to have the hardware screws visible inside the drawer. I guess you could glue the front on, use the hardware screw holes as temporary fixing.
    I'm also thinking about routing out the underside of the outer box top to embed a wireless charger into the top, so a mobile device can just be placed on the night stand and will charge.

    To attach the drawers to the guides, you should be able to keep them pushed all the way in and then put the drawer box in and push it back until it locks in place, that way you don’t have to pull the guides out and set the drawer box on top and lay underneath to click them in. Thought maybe that would help make things easier down the road for future projects

    Hey, I love the video and I was planning on making one for myself. I was just wondering what the dimensions for the drawer front were in the video.

    • @GoldenKeyDesign
      @GoldenKeyDesign  Před rokem

      The outer dimensions of the drawer are 18"x6" and I used 3/4" MDF so the drawer front opening is 16.5"x4.5". I then sized it down an 1/8" so it was 16 3/8" x 4 3/8". Hope that makes sense!

    • @GoldenKeyDesign
      @GoldenKeyDesign  Před 2 lety

      Thank you! I used a standard Kilz 2 primer and an interior eggshell paint in Limousine Black. The drawer front is actually leftover wood from the demolition of the kitchen. I believe it is cedar but has a lot of weathering/patina. Hope that helps!

    Hey man great project! I'm building a set with my son. Him and his lady apparently found this video and wants me to help him build. I read down in the comments the inner drawer boxes are 17x10. So would it be correct to assume you cut the bottom planks at 16x9 ? Appreciate it.

    What’s the measurements for the inner drawer in comparison to the outer box

    • @GoldenKeyDesign
      @GoldenKeyDesign  Před 2 lety +2

      Good question! The outer box is 18" wide, 6" tall, and 12" deep. You adjust these dimensions to suit your space if needed. The inside box dimensions will depend on the type of drawer slides you are using but I made mine 1" shorter in every dimension. So it came out to 17" wide, 4" tall, and 11" deep. Hope that helps!

      @@GoldenKeyDesign I wonder, if you sandwich some acrylic in between your 45s with the light source inside the drawer behind the acrylic if that would be enough radiant cascading light to see what’s on top of the drawers at night as well as inside. Getting two birds stoned at once. Just a thought I figured I’d share, love the details you put into your work, you’re inspiring. As a true complete beginner, I’ve never worked with wood, my background is in racing composites and paint, so this is a new venture for me. • @lenonkitchens7727
    @lenonkitchens7727 Před 2 lety +1

    There's nothing wrong with what you did, but I like to attach draw fronts a little differently. I like to find my handle position, like you did, drill the holes for it, align the front (like you did with cards or whatever, doesn't matter as long as it's aligned) then screw the front to the drawer box from the front through the holes I made for the pull. Then open the drawer, screw it in from the back, then remove the initial screws and install the handle.
    I don't like have the double sided tape in between. Maybe I'm just being anal. Also, I feel like it's more accurate and secure when installing the screws from the back.
    Anyway, just thought I'd share.
