I think they were kicked out because they were the smartest in that whole bunch and that didn't serve drama. Christina is literally a pilot - I wasn't surprised, her eyes had the glow that most smart people have - and when she was first getting to know Robert she said something along the lines of "Robert isn't my usual type but since he's the smartest guy here I like him". This show generally punishes sane people for the sake of good TV, look at how they kicked out Peter because he's getting in the middle of other people's "connections" when he's the one actually dating melinda now LOL
The good thing about this show is that you're not watching it for them to "form an actual connection", you're watching these *mostly stupid people torture themselves and then pretending to feel ashamed because the other people are mad at them.
