      @@susanpower9265 I don’t believe there are many people who have a trouble free claim to many names of that time period. The USA as do others, has a history with England that has seen both the bloodiest and brightest days. The College is an excellent school of academics. That’s not a referendum on its name or the people it was originally named for. I was born and grew up there. I had family and friends who attended and graduated from the College of William & Mary. They attended seeking education and not as a support for anything the named individuals may have meant in history. I believe you’ll see that’s the case with most Colleges and Universities in the USA. Name recognition, pride etc may be present but I would venture to say that’s typically, in recent history rather than hundreds of years ago. They are also noted for Sports, as so many are these days. It’s the academic reputation this school is best known. There’s going to something negative said about most places that carry names from that time. As the Counter Culture is increasingly attacking history, books, statues, buildings etc, perhaps all names will be removed and replaced by numbers, just to be sure no one is offended.

    William & Mary was a franchise as opposed to a monarchy,bringing them in was largely a corporate decision with parliament acting as a board of directors….

    • @MikeGreenwood51
      @MikeGreenwood51 Před rokem

      But is Parliament a corporation? I think not. Parliament is based on representation where the members represent the people and so can have a number of groups of representatives (Parties). So whilst the Parties can be said to be bodies they may have opposing or different opinions. So are not necessarily acting as a unified body with the singularity of a unified interest such as a Corportaion may have. Members of Parliament may be corporation members but usually each member may represent a different corporation. So Parliament is not it self a corporation oblidged to act according to corporate law. Therefore it is called Parliament and not The Corporation.
      Do you think a husband and wife really fit in to the definition of a franchise? Definition from the web: 'A franchise is a joint venture between a franchisor and a franchisee. The franchisor is the original business. It sells the right to use its name and idea. The franchisee buys this right to sell the franchisor's goods or services under an existing business model and trademark'.

    Hey am I the only one who thinks the fashions of Charles the Second, and up to around the American Revolution 1770s, are perhaps the coolest in history, before the Old West? The French Revoluttion was a bit uptight and poncey, while the early 19th was drab.

    • @MikeGreenwood51
      @MikeGreenwood51 Před 5 lety

      Hey Rockstar. You are likly referring to Cavalier garb. The dress of the Royalists. Not the sort of flamboyant dress you would have wanted to be seen in during the bloody civil war. As for many of them it was the last suil of clothes they would ever wear. They supported Charles the beheaded. Then after Charles the beheaded they supported Charles II the restored, then deposed and fled. So it's a bit like wearing the rockstar protaganist's garb. Or the garb of a duck at a duck shoot. William of Orange was called in to end that. Those dress fashions end with the Orange Revolution so were not part of the 1700s and so were not in use upto or during the United States Revolution 1776.

      Is Northern Ireland under the King Charles III of the United Kingdom still or has that changed? Are they independent now from the U.K.? It’s always named as part of their rule but perhaps it’s meant in a different context. I’m not part of the U.K. and am a little confused when I read the conflicting statements. I realize the Monarchy has little authority. What is the stairs of the remainder of Ireland? I realize the postings here are long ago so I doubt I’ll get a reply. I’m sorry I was so late finding this movie and learning. When you live in a separate Country the truth can become muddled on its way to the World. @@misplacedsouthern1236 Northern Ireland is mostly Protestant and supportors of the Monachy or UK Parliament. Since the referendum there has beed declaration that had they known Scotland would have remained in the European Union then Northern Ireland would likly have also choosen to remain. So this is a live political entity which could change at any time and is not always fixed one way or another. The Island of Ireland has been there for tens of thousands of years and was not invaded by the Romans as Scotland was also not. Then in the 5th century (about 1540 years ago) the English came as per the request of the britons whome the Irish and Scots were attacking. The British wanted saving after the Romans had refused to return and look after them. So the British idea was that the English along with the saxons and Jutes would kick Scotish and Irish asses and drive them away from the suffering British. So in came the assult trrops swing battle axes and spilling blood driving Irish and Scotts back away from the south. The irish receeded to Ireland and the Scots receeded to the North. The English pushed up to Edwins Land where they buiilt his castle now called Edinburgh. Instead of continuing with Hostilities and killing them all out right. Some English rulers, (Kings, Nobility) decided to marry some Scotish Rulers (Scotish Nobility) and gave them Edwins castle and settled on a fixed border. So then for hundreds of years there continues peace and war and an English Scotish Union with their own Kings either side of the borders untill Queen Elizabeth 1st Chopped off Queen mary's head (Elizabeth's own Cosin) but Elizabeth in turn died with out child. So the son of Mary the beheaded was appointed sole Monarch of both Countries. James the 1st and 6th became the King of England by royal ties and family. IE-The Royals had been having a little bit of sex during the centuries and by inter marrital unions sons and daughters were born. That was what was happening North and South. But all those 1570 years the English had been side by side with the Welsh as well as the Irish. Ireland was envaded by the Normans as was England and eventually the English regained the Thrown when the Normans left after the death of King Stephen. So life next door to Ireland continued hundreds of years on going as did life with the Welsh. Just as in the 6th Century the English King Hengist allowed his beautifull Royal Princess daughter to wed the british King, King Vortigern, others also found their neighbours to be pretty or handsom. So there was intermingling with English and Welsh as well as with Irish people. Love they say will find a way. So after fifteen hundred years of neighbourly living a fair few sons and daughters were born. There remained many who had not found love in Ireland with the English and The Pope certainly had no apparant love for protestants. So he occasionally decreeds acts of homicide and genocide inciting the Irish catholics to murder which were met with by bloody conflict. Tens of thousands of irish lived in England, Some lived in Wales and Scotland. So of course children would be born from the relationships which formed. Not only were Irish people marrying in the UK but they were also migrating the The Americas and canada where again the intermingled and some married. So a close relationship there continued with English speaking people or a Republican denomination. So where are all the generations of Anglo Irish children to live? Those irish who had interbred with fellow Irish or with French objected to English rule or United Kindom Rule and they campaigned for independance which they were eventully granted. But there remained a significant amount of those who did not want independance as well as the thousands who were now Alngle English Irish. So the north remained by their choice supportors of the United Kingdom. There still remains those who object to the Irish or Anglo English Irish having part of Ireland. But my opinion is it is only nature taking it's course. There is no 10 meter razor wire deviding the land and so boys and girls with be boys and girls and some will find love and new generations will be born and they too will need homes. I hope you can understand that whilst there are those in the south and in the vatican who feel Ireland has lost Northern Ireland, It is really still Ireland. It is not lost but occupied by mostly Irish people or Anglo English Irish or Orange Men who may be Anglo Dutch Irish or Irish supportors of King William of Orange. So it is still Ireland but of a form of a devided Ireland.

    Marie est la fille aînée du duc d'York Jacques, le frère cadet du roi Charles II. Bien que son père se soit converti au catholicisme après sa naissance, elle est éduquée dans la foi anglicane suivant les instructions de son oncle. Elle se marie en 1677 avec son cousin germain, le prince Guillaume d'Orange-Nassau, et part vivre avec lui aux Provinces-Unies. Ce mariage purement diplomatique la rend d'abord malheureuse, mais elle finit par développer une réelle affection pour son mari.
    À la mort de Charles, en 1685, Jacques devient roi, mais il est déposé trois ans plus tard par le Parlement d'Angleterre dans le cadre de la Glorieuse Révolution, qui donne lieu à l'adoption de la Déclaration des droits et porte au pouvoir Marie et Guillaume.

Quote from web: 'David commits adultery with Bathsheba and arranges the death of her husband, Uriah the Hittite. David's son Absalom later tries to overthrow him, but David returns to Jerusalem after Absalom's death to continue his reign. David desires to build a temple to Yahweh but is denied because of the bloodshed in his reign. He dies at age 70 and chooses Solomon, his son with Bathsheba, as his successor instead of his eldest son Adonijah'. So you mean King David the farther of the iligitamate Solomon as well as murderer? How was the appointer of David, God? David was appointed by the Judaian tribe's people after the slaying of Saul and his son Jonathan. So are you claiming that The Judaians are God? If so then how so are other elected representatives of the people in your opinion 'rule from below i/e arrogant humanity'? Your rule is dead. As is the rulers who were Willian and Mary.
