A wild finish between Manasquan and Camden as Camden pulls off the 46-45 win. Should the shot have counted is the big question.

Refs should be ashamed
If the roles were reversed they would be getting called racist.
If the roles were reversed the refs would be being called racialists right about now.
They have to have a conscious first, & they don't.

At (0:10) freeze-framed in the video, the ball is passing through the net with .6 seconds left on the clock.

@@user-he9su3od4u *"after freezing this video @10 seconds, hit the period Key to go Forward one Frame and hit the Comma Key to go back one Frame"*
...I did that just now. It actually moves "through the net" with .1 second left on the clock - not to mention that all that matters is when the ball leaves the shooter's fingertips. If it left his fingertips from half-court with .1 second left and didn't pass through the hoop for another three seconds, ... the basket would still count.
Tell me you know nothing about basketball...(see this comment)
@@telford32 Who are you replying to?
I found the same thing: Exactly .6 seconds on the clock and the player had already shot the ball.
Disgraceful that in this day and age when we have so much video capabilities, a team sees its entire season go down the drain because of a bad call by the ref AND a bad policy that does not allow the refs to refer to any video!
Do I smell a lawsuit coming?
If he got the shot off before time, then it counts. Refs should be blacklisted , at least from tournament games. Reprehensible call
He didn't just get the shot off, it was all the way through the net before time.

The coach was immediately in the ref's face waving his arms.
did you see who is on Camden? that's some fairytale thinking. even after they watch it and see that they are undeserving of being in the next round, they will justify it in some way and defend that they won that game. there is zero chance anyone from that team or school comes out and bea the bigger person and says we don't want it. zero

These refs must have gone to the same ref school as the refs who refereed the 1972 Olympic basketball game between the U.S. and Russia.
Well done. I remember that game. A complete travesty.
🤣🤣🤣
They were practicing to be election officials.
I used that analogy right after the 2020 fixed election.
In this case, the officials are 100% responsible for the loss. The trail official initially called it correctly and was walking off the floor. Someone from Camden approached one of the other officials (who didn’t make any call at all initially) and, evidently, convinced him to change the call. What I can’t understand is why the official who initially called the play correctly allowed the other official to change his mind. This is very fishy. If this stands, which apparently it will, those officials should never be allowed to officiate another basketball game.
Totally agree. Ref at top of key definitely signaled a good basket, it was a good basket, and how and why he changed his mind is a mystery that likely will never be solved……..as there is no doubt all 3 refs will hide under a rock and clam up. Though Manasquan earned the win, THEY are wrong to sue and no court will overturn a human error. Their lawsuit has already been tossed and it is insipid to pursue it further. Manasquan should have taken the high road and told the players it’s a learning lesson as nowhere does it say life has to be fair.
At the very least, those 3 refs should never work another HS game ever again.
They’ll be invited to the Whitehouse and given awards, I’m sure
That's not right. Refs stole what should have been an incredible win and lifetime memory from these young guys.

Two black refs overruled the white ref. That is what I see. And Camden is black and Manasquan is white.
Either I am missing something but that bucket went in with a half second.
Not looking good.
The dark skin ref was the one emphatically signaling that the basket counted as everyone rushed the court.
What a dummy, it was the darkest man/ref in the gym that ruled the basket counted without hesitation...
The referee across from the table is the official responsible for the timing on last second shots. He clearly said the basket was good. What happened after that is very curious. For some reason the officials got together and decided to change the call. The calling official was correct and should have stood with his call. For some reason one or both of the other officials got him to change his call as you can see he goes to the table and waves off the basket.
the refs didn't get him to change the call the group of angry black men that got in their faces as they were walking off got them to change the call. the refs only huddled up after they were confronted and intimidated. they were clearly walking off as thou the game was over. no ref came right over to challenge the first refs call. a group of black men came over and challenged it

As per rule, the refs once the horn sounds are supposed to leave the court. Someone from Camden approached the ref to say the basket didn't count as they are walking out which is against the NJSIAA rules. Then they came back on the court to conference and get the call wrong. Manasquan appealed and NJSIAA said they made a mistake but the ruling on the court stands. No one asked about approaching the refs after the horn sounds. Camden shouldn't go out of principle. They didn't win.
The refs never left the court.
It seems who was to win was a forgone conclusion.
@wayneszpara6521 you might want to rewatch the video. the refs were clearly walking off the court and neither of them acted as though the call was wrong until they were confronted by a group of angry black men demanding that the shot get waved off. then they got together. what was said only they know, but the black men in their face 1000% influenced how the game ended
angry black men.
Your understanding of officiating is COMPLETELY WRONG. Ref leave the court together and when they feel player safety is secured. This is not time table for how and when refs leave the floor.
Last shot of the game with no time left. The high school athletic commission in NJ should add 2 points to Manasquan's point total and award it the win. The ref should be suspended.
You can see the two black refs overrule the white ref in their conference
Was waiting for someone to blatantly inject race
That’s not fair and is contradicted by the video. One of the black refs at the top of the key clearly indicates the basket counts when it goes in. You should retract your statement………but you probably won’t.
Well even stevie wonder knew that was a basket and manasquan won
Strong armed robbery 😆😂🤣😭
Yep
If you are the Camden coach how do you look at your players with a straight face? I mean the video is 100% clear and all his players know it. This is about life lessons. They should forfeit the game.
They need to have better control of that crowd and the court
100% of crowd on the floor up until the call was overturned was Manasquan students/fans just living in the momentary celebrating in what they thought was a big time win. Not mad at that, but YEAH, they need to do a better job of controlling that crowd, they almost knocked down the referee working the baseline. 😅😊😂
Matter of fact majority of security I see on floor are from the CAMDEN CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT.
You'd think they would know better after a Camden football game ended with gunshots in 2019
@A.C.Lawrence 😢😢 good try but that was a game at Pleasantville and had NOTHING to do with Camden's team or fans.
The officials should be ashamed of themselves. Also, the Camden coaches and school show their total lack of integrity not to have forfeited the game. I'm not surprised...the reason is obvious.
We all know the real reason behind this
Refs should be ashamed. Camden coaches should be ashamed. It looked like they intimidated the refs. Wow.
So the official on the top of the screen got it right, he should have stood his ground and said the basket counts. The two other officials must be his senior because their the ones that called the shot no good.
Just saw this on Fox and after watching this video, I can see why everyone is outraged and, why it was reported by Fox News. Let's be honest, if the losing team were Paterson, not a word!
The point here is everybody knows that wouldnt of happened to Camden if the roles were reversed. Hello, 24 year NJSIAA official here.
We have a rulebook for a reason. It clearly states this is a judgement call by the LEAD (under the basket)official on the putback if you wind back the video, you will see after the shot he steps in to view the play, then after the tap he starts to wave the shot off as "no good" by his judgment. Children rush the court so none of you SEE him waive the call off.
The C and trail official move towards the table and the lead official comes over to inform them the shot was no good. This would be clear in a normal game, because the trail would look at the lead and see him waiving it off, the coaches and kids would also see this. But the floor was rushed and nobody noticed as a kid ran into him as he was waiving it off.
This is why we have the rules, so emotion and chaos will not dictate our sport.
1 person has the final say on a basket, its not a democracy. Right or wrong it is clear who has the only say on a judgment call for the final shot.
I cant condem an official for "not being demonstrative enough" as we can also say "coaches please restrain your kids from being on the floor or making contact with officials" Both are the human element to our game and I am proud of our sport.
I don’t see any gesture whatever by the official under the basket until several seconds after time expires. Then all he does is ward off people rushing the court.
Why would he, with no view of the nearest clock, subsequently overrule the official whose line of sight included both the shooter and the clock? Who, incidentally, made the correct call.
This seems a defense of bad practice. It’s additionally lamentable that a fourth person was permitted to be a party to the colloquy of the three officials.
It wasn’t as close as the article I read made it seem. The ball had actually fallen all the way through the net and the clock was still rolling
My heart goes out to Manasquan Basketball Team. That was a disgrace.
these officials should never be allowed to officiate a scholastic basketball game again.
The little clock in the frame isn't the offical clock. I wish we had a view of the real clock. What time did he get control of the rebound on the offical clock? At less than 0.3 seconds the ball must be tipped.
If we could see the clock it would be possible to know for sure but with the little screen clock we can't tell.
I've officiated thousands of games and can tell you that last second shots are instinctive. One ref has the clock, one has the shot and one is watching for fouls in the paint. If the shot counted you would see movement to mark to score with no thought. You just signal. There is no time to debate it in your head.
Because we can't see the real clock and not a single ref marked the shot. I think it may have required a tip; a catch and shoot is too slow.
The taxpayers of New Jersey recently built Camden High School a new building for $242 million. Since then Camden has been shipping "students" in from across the country to play basketball. There was a controversy a few years ago regarding many of these "students" and the payments of their out of state tuition. Now this. Sometimes cliches fit; follow the money. Many of NJ public schools are no longer a "common good" but have become a retail racket instead.
My narration of the final sequence
Shot goes up, the trail, with his hand up watches the last shot., the hand is up to signal "good if it goes"
we then have a REBOUND on the lower blocks and a putback
and the lead (baseline) referee steps in
the LEAD steps in, and waves off the putback, but the Trail (bald guy at the top) who no longer has jurisdiction on the call signals the game is over. The kids rush the floor so nobody notices that the call has been waived off
the lead official then comes over to the sidelines and informs the C and trail that the shot was no good. Then pulls the other 2 officials back to inform them of his call.
I like your evaluation but it’s wrong and has been proven many times over that it’s wrong and Manasquan won the game
Grimey. They won at the buzzer, dont steal that away from them. Grimey business $$$$$
Great game to both teams. Camden , there is no need to file a lawsuit against anyone but your own coaches and staff.
I'm calling on the coach of the other team to do the right thing here...this is a valuable moment to teach these kids what's right is right.
The coaches are doing the exact opposite and openly telling them to take the loss.
People calm down. This is part of the reparations act. We need to move on from this. Have a nice day.
Seems like you’re racist huh
Also that cam team is like number 2 in New Jersey buddy
Sad. But, bad calls happen in all levels of all sports. I've seen bad calls during Superbowl, Wimbledon, etc. They can not like the call, challenge, and then accept and move on.
Skin color was the only determination as the ref that overturned the call is black !
Race had nothing to do with it
race had everything to do with it. the ref made the right call, the other 2 refs made no indication that they thought it was wrong. they were all walking off the court and the black refs were approached by black coaches or fans who were essentially demanding the call should be overturned, then the refs got together and decided to overturn it. it was 1000% race and your blind as can be if you don't see it. you think the black ref would take back the call that the video shows he clearly saw correctly the first time if the teams were reversed and a white coach came up to him suggesting he got it wrong. dream on.
@@StonedCold27 well if Camden was white and manasqaun black you would say the same thing I said race had nothing to do with it.
Someone in charge at Camden should step up and do the right thing. As a former coach, I would not want a victory in the face of such clear evidence that it’s undeserved.
When has anybody ever conceded a game that they won.Remember replay is not legal. When ever did a state overturn a game using an illegal rule.Camden just needs to be gracious winners and acknowledge the call.
@@ram0666They didn’t win. The trail official initially called it correctly and was walking off the floor when the other official intervened. This is awful and needs corrected.
Black Privilege
I will agree with everyone that feels Camden should relinquish the win if they can 100% honestly say that the other team would do that if the roles were reversed.
So, the ball was actually through the hoop completely before time ran out.

Was this waved off due to a time violation, or was there some other reason offered? Posting a clip w/out any information provides no context as to what actually occurred.
basket was good then the refs got together and overturned for some unknown reason....that is what happened
It was waved off because the refs said they didnt get the shot off in time.
There was .7 seconds on clock when the last shot was taken and made. Camden has to live with a "Win by cheating" that's worse than a "Lose by 1 pt".
That was a no-brainer. Looks like the black folks got their way again, at the expense of someone else, . . . again.
Hahahaha, that's funny being written here in America, where every person alive here is and has benefitted off of the expense of someone else.
@@Ruffedges Absolutely right, but 'someone else' is a black 'someone else' only about 20% of the time. The other 80% is a mix of European, Asian, etc. Oh, and I think you missed my point. Doesn't make you a bad guy.

One of the places racism actually exists today in America is basketball. It should be called black basketball because asians, hispanics, and whites are basically not allowed on the court due to a racial advantage by blacks.
Those 3 referees should be suspended if not out right fired, the coaching staff from Camden should be ashamed of themselves, their kids got BEAT, flat out.

Wow I'd be appealing to the state board for this win !
Now that the Championships are done, and the story is on the back burner (until it happens again) a few thoughts:
1. After watching this video dozens of times, it seems pretty clear that the 2nd referee overturned the first referee's call of the basket being good. I still have no idea what the third referee thought.
2. A lot of people on this thread made it a point to say that if the situation were reversed, Camden would've cried racism and taken this to court. While there's no doubt in my mind that some black people would have done that, what's also clear is that some white people cried racism in this case. Not to mention that Manasquan did in fact take this to court.
3. If the situation were reversed, there's almost no doubt in my mind that Manasquan would've played in the championship game. They would not have refused to play or offered their spot to Camden. That's not a black or white thing, that's a human being thing.
Nice to see all the helpful Camden fans all over the refs at the end. Gee, I'm sure the refs weren't intimidated. Anyone with any common sense knows what's really happening.
They shouldn't be refereeing if they can be intimidated. It should be considered part of the job. Especially if they're assigned to games involving Camden, Weequahic, and Patterson EastSide

The Black coach then talks the 2 Black refs into taking the points off the board. The Manasquan team is 100% White. The Camden team is 100% Black. The ref that overturned the basket is Black. CLEARLY all three refs saw the ball ALREADY IN THE BASKET when they heard the buzzer...meaning, the ball MUST HAVE LEFT THE SHOOTERS HANDS with time still on the clock.

That was really an incredible play by 12 to catch that after mistiming his jump and flicking back up without jumping. I think the way he an Manas acted, and the way a few of the Camden players reacted, it looked like the players knew the shot was good. That's really too bad. I understand it was a tight close call, but it didn't seem that close actually. I think he got it off with .4 seconds in another video. You don't want to questions the referees integrity, but it's a little suspect looking. I assume the rest of the game though was called well so I don't know. Not sure what the solution is, but Camden can't feel too good moving forward to the next round. Kind of not good for them either the whole situation honestly.
The basket was clearly good, but sometimes the incorrect call is made. Officials are human and make mistakes. It’s unfortunate that the mistake cost Manasquan the game, but life isn’t always fair.
Come on. We see what happened here.
Except the correct call was made.
By the appropriate official.
Overturning that call without irrefutable evidence or benefit of video replay (which would prove the original call correct anyways) is the controversy here.
But, the right thing should still be done. If your son played for Manasquan.....
lol, how can you even cheer if you're on Camden? You know you lost and were gifted an undeserved spot to the finals.
Never seen a clock do that before. This clock jumps rather than count it down. Strange
Here’s the problem. The center official emphatically signaled that the basket counted. If the trail official had a different opinion he should have came in stronger and got the officials together immediately to discuss what he saw. He is scene casually walking off the court until he was intercepted by one of the Camden coaches. Suspiciously he now has a change of opinion and talks the other official into changing his call. Then has the audacity to admit afterwards that the basket was legit, thereby costing a team from advancing to the finals.
Spot on. Also, if im the C there, I’m dying on my word. I counted it, I’m running the hell off the court. Something sketchy is going on.

Those referees were dead wrong about that. That kid put the shot up before time ran out. That team who got cheated didn’t deserves to be eliminated. They deserve to win.
The C on the far side of the court signaled the basket was good and the refs started to walk off the court. The Camden coach got in their faces and then the refs got together to discuss the play. How they came to the conclusion the shot was late is unreal. It looks like the light skinned bald ref talked the C out of the call. Absolute BS. If the C signaled the bucket good they should have got off the court. The ref who ended up overruling the C started to walk off the court immediately after the play. Obviously he didn’t feel so strongly about the shot being late that he came to the ref immediately. He should’ve just kept his mouth shut and let the call stand. If the C had any doubt, he should have made no signal when the ball went in and then the refs can talk it out. That was awful.
They 2-1'ned the referee who called the point good. After the kid makes the layup he called the point with authority (proud almost) then the other two refs come together and point at each other in the huddle. The ref who called it good walks out of the huddle ashamed!!!

Wow. There was still .6 seconds left on the clock when the ball hit off the backboard going into the rim..HIGHWAY ROBBERY!
Ref at the top of the key clearly signaled good basket. It seems they decided to get together after a "fan" seemed to in their faces. Who knows what that guy said lol
Ever seen Camden NJ? Trust me the kids and coaches could care less about how they got the W. Probably laughing.
frame by frame they won! NO question!
Watching solely the referees after the basket, it appears that there is one referee calling the other 2 back onto the court for discussion even though those 2 had already left the court lines.
Seems he’s the one whose mind wasn’t made up.
That basket was good for Manasquan.Look to be 1 tenth of a second left when it went through.
It just has to leave you hand with time left...doesn't matter when it goes through basket which makes the call even more ridiculous.
It does not matter when the ball went through the hoop. What matters is when was it last touched by the shooting player on the court! Thus, if the ball hangs on the rim for 2-3 seconds and then drops through, it's just as good as if it was "nothing but net" as long as the last contact between the player and the ball was before the clock ran down to 0.0.
The ball was already in the air with a full second left.
Doesn’t matter when it went through either, just when the shot was released and there was about a second left when it left his hands so wasn’t even close…. This is an absolute disgrace
