Remnants of the past, long lost in the beard.
Is there a modern Biographics replacement? I know Simon has Astrographics + Places to replace Geographics... but i do miss Simons narration in talking about people.

Better than mainstream TV. With Warographics, I actually learn something.
This makes me so happy (not the dictator being a vile piece of work) but the fact that this is an ongoing series and it's also covering autocrats that people might not have heard of.

You are correct, some places don't run good dictatorships. Same token republic's, a dictatorship is technically a democracy, aren't natural forms of governance as well. Arguably speaking the most natural form of government is an oligarchy.

Seems like revolutions rarely work out, the United States, some of the Eastern European former Soviet states…. I’m sure there are more but it seems like on most cases the country falls apart and you end up with a dictator or complete anarchy

Hi Simon, thanks for your wonderful work, as usual you never disappoint, this is to inform you that the whereabouts of albashir are not unknown, he is under treatment @Morwe Hospital north of Sudan & he is not hiding from any local or foreign authorities. If anyone or anything has big balls enough to arrest him, they may approach.
After a video on Somalia and this THANK GOD i was born in my country, i'll never complain about it (as long as it doesnt go to shit). We take all the freedom and prosperity we have in the west as a given, i will probably die while living a very solid, peaceful life which is super rare in history. Instead of just working together to be prosperous they keep fighting for scraps which is INSANE. Makes me want to go Ras al Guh mode.
The most scary thing for me is that my instinct would be to fight dictators in wars and this tend to only MAKES THINGS WORSE, who knows when is going to end and will the next government even be a good thing?! In 2012, al-Bashir proposed setting up a continent-wide space agency in Africa. In a statement he said, "I'm calling for the biggest project, an African space agency. Africa must have its space agency... [It] will liberate Africa from technological domination".
A friend of mine was recently opining that "a lot of white people seem to think that brown people can't or don't enslave and genocide other brown people"
Hard to argue with that...hard to see all this tragedy from the outside as well
It is because these virtue signalers only care about racial violence (and even then only if it is whites committing violence against non-whites.)
Non-whites killing each other, whites killing each other and especially non-whites killing whites gets ignored by these people.

The background music is too distracting, the constant beeping keeps making me think an alarm is going off on my phone.
Sudanese here, the RSF has been on an ANTI-RCC wave co-opting the grievances of the very people they brutalized. The idea that his very own barbaric creation is holding him in vile conditions is poetic justice.
It was in 2015 or 16 when Al-Bashir visited South Africa.
I am too young to have known the Apartheid regime in its entirety. So I can't speak to the shame I might have felt then at their actions.
But our refusal, despite our courts ordering President Zuma to arrest his guest without hesitation was met with blatant disregard for the law and civilian life. The shame I felt that day, and still do is not easy to put into words.

Any conflict in an African country cannot fully be described unless you discuss how the borders were made. The English ran Sudan until 1952. The English borders trapped a bunch of ethnic groups under an umbrella and magnified any existing conflicts. I usually love your stuff but contrast this video with your Belgian Congo one and you'll see a massive difference.

It’s 2024. Can we now start to realize that colonization wasn’t the worst thing that happened to these countries. Every time colonialists pull out the nations they leave fall apart. I say from now on if your country needs help from outsiders we get to take over, and implement our form of government.
This is why I have absolutely 0 respect for any modern day conservative who thinks they live in a dictatorship when places like this exist.
Lol stop complaining
That's like saying any woman in America who complains about a man groping her should just shut up, since there are women in Africa being gang r@ped every day. Wrong is still wrong, regardless of the degree to which it happens. Also, it's so telling when you lecture about "conservatives" even though leftists have been calling the US a fascist nation for years, even though they've been babied by the media, courts, and political system for decades. You're a hypocrite, and a liar.
They would throw away all rights and freedoms they would have just so they could *own the libs* and oppress people
Anyone in general, not just conservatives
Dictatorships don’t just appear, they are created slowly and through changing laws or conflict. Look at what happened with modern day Russia. We’re lucky to have the ability to complain about tight or strict laws that lean towards more government control.

dav's question why do we help Ukraine when it turns out that it is the most corrupt country in Europe why are we wasting money time resources and human life on this where I ask again why should we waste all this on something so miserable
Russia is the most corrupt country in Europe.
If we don't help Ukraine then after Russia conquers Ukraine they will move on to another country (most likely Moldova).
If it’s bad for the US to destroy smaller nations because we perceive them as lacking then it’s bad for Russia to do it too.
Cause ukraine showed their will to change and improve. They are in fact not the most corrupt country anymore.
And as long as we can weaken russia, I am fine with that
