Bose Videowave - Little 2.75" Subwoofer driver - Test in Free-Air (& Slow-Mo)

- -Here is a quick (and useless) Free-Air test of these incredible 2.75" Bose woofer drivers! They're the beefiest sub-3" drivers known to existence, being also incredibly tall (about 6,5cm). They can be found in a Bose Videowave LCD TV, used them as part of the internal subwoofer ass'y.
-Finally got myself a sub unit after eleven years of research. Got them on eBay for quite an expensive price, but given the extreme rarity of them and the insanity of the drivers themselves, I couldn't resist myself.
-The driver P/N is "Bose 314489001" (as said on the sticker on the magnet), it has an impedance of 6Ohms and it has a really soft foam surround, paper cone and aluminium basket. The voice coil is about 1" big but very tall (about 5cm tall, the entire driver is about 6,5cm so) with a very bright-yellow spider. The only ventings are little holes on the cone and that's enough for this thing as it moves so much without having any mechanical noises! Anyway, more parameters are available below.
-The subwoofer housing ass'y is entirely made of solid cast aluminium (weights about 5kgs in total) and it's completely sealed with a rubber gasket, except for a rectangular hole surrounded by a foam gasket where the waveguide should be mounted to.
-At the link below you can find the T/S Parameters of this driver. HUGE HUGE thanks to "WdB Audio" (look it up his channel, he's awesome) that extracted them with his Klippel system. Look his video about them! He has done a better testing: • Bose Videowave Subwoof...
Anyway here's the link of the parameters: pastebin.com/A...
Thanks for watching, this video was just a quick Free-Air test for fun and just for show, these drivers are so impressive! Also forgive me for always using the same annoying song but it's copyright-free and it's great to show some excursion.

So good to see you back on youtube!Holy, these drivers having a mega excursion and the foam surround is dimpling crazy!
Yay thank you so much! I'll never really retrive from CZcams but as I already said other times I'm really really busy with my job that takes 80% of my time out of house and stuff. Also yeah, they do are crazy as hell, Bose really stunned out with these beauties
Wow.. I've never seen such a high xmax on such a littler driver
The Soundlink Mini drivers are toys in front of these little monsters! 🤩
Hahaha! But remember the Bose SL Mini ones are WAY smaller, they look absolutely tiny compared to these. Yet another insane Bose driver lmao
Holy smokes, they're incredible! These are the only woofers (as far as I know) comparable to the 2.68" Devialet drivers! Too bad these have foam surrounds tho..
I forgot what they are called but they have foam exterior but the middle part of the foam is actually rubber
Oh true! I'm also looking for those Devialets so much, I hope someday I can managed to get even just one driver... And maybe do a comparison video with the Bose Videowave! Oh yeah, the foam was one of my main concern. I'll apply latex on all six woofers to prevent foam rotting
@@anxiety1209 That's very interesting
@ciro589m Yeah latex might be a smart move, if you can though i would leave at least 1 or 2 original, just to see what happens in a few years or so.. it's possible these won't foam-rot at all
Hmm true. I'll see
Ahhh Ciro! I'm so glad you managed to find some of these rare beauties! They really are special. Thanks for the mention as well
Heyy you! Yes, you can't imagine how lucky I feel. These are probably the most precious drivers I own of all, they do really are special, expecially by the fact that I was 12 years old when I started to hunt for them :3 Anyway you're welcome! It was mandatory to mention you as you've done the *real* test by exctracting all the useful infos
@@ciro589m yes, I can imagine, you're probably one of only a handful of people who's managed to source them. An insider commented on my video saying Bose really struggled to sell the TV system. So aside from the few faulty TVs popping up, they're probably already scrapped sadly. Anyway, I added a link to your video in my description also! Enjoy your lovely Videowave woofers
@@wdbaudio Yeah exactly, sadly that Bose Videowave thing was really struggling with sales... I would love to own a working unti or even a faulty one to repair, but I'm asking too much now haha. It's so sad that they got tossed out, I hope at least they recycled the woofers for other projects or at least for some internal testing or whatever. They're really uniquie and super well designed. Thank you SO much for your mention, I appreciate it a LOT! I'll try to find a way to wire all them up to do some more videos playin alltogether in the housing
I wish to have these bose speakers since i was a kid i still want them even today :)
me too... I finally found them and I'm so happy!
Very beautiful driver and super excursion!
Yes! :D Bose really did the job
Dang!!!
Those are incredible
Absolutely yes!
Hot damn. I remember seeing these and being mezmorized by the design of that box and just amount of them they used. I always thought they were just a prototype.
Awesome that you found em mate :)
I always tought the same thing as a kid! When I discovered that it was a real thing I got so amazed about it... and I started to hunt for them so much lmao. I still can't believe I got my hands on them :3
The XMAX they have is astonishing and they still sound clean while doing it. Looks soo satisfying. Also, some of your shots look really nice, I love bokeh 😂.
They are so silent with the minimal amount of venting they have. Stunning.
Absolutely yes! That's why they're so damn impressive, considering they don't even have ventings on the basket but only under the cone. Also thank you so much :3 Sony Alpha does indee shot beautiful clips
@@ciro589m ohhh, what Sony alpha do you have? :P
@@speakerpat an "old" Sony a6000
@@ciro589m ahh nice, I have an A6300
Cool!
Nice video Ciro! It’s quite a lucky find
Thank you! And yeah, I do feel super super lucky as these are literally rare gems to find
Exactly...
Hahah you made that video so fast 🤣 they're sooooo impressive I have never seen this... tiny sundowns
haha yeah, original clips were much longer with other songs but I didn't really liked them and also felt it was poinless to do a longer video of just them moving. It would've made more sense if I had them playing alltogether in the waveguide enclosure or If I tested them with other equipments such as a klippel system like WdB did. I'll try to hook up all six of them in their cast housing and play some more music to make another video. We will see. Anyway yeah, they do really are car subwoofers scaled down lmao
@@ciro589m Oh okay I see! They're actually even beefier than the sundowns haha
Really nice driver! The spider is as big as the cone with surround! Best setup for big excursion! Could be better with sewed tinsel leads, imho. But very awesome piece of tech!
Exactly! Not sure about the sewed tinsel leads as they tend to break easily with high excursion drivers
Holy, I've seen those before on the wdb channel some time ago but I didn't remember them being out of a frickin' flat TV, I just looked it up and it looks so insane, I cant believe you searched so long for them, must be amazing to finally have them holding in your hand and seeing those move truly is special, I cant image how they would sound like all together in the enclosure.
Also I'm really curious of how much such insanely rare speakers like these cost, I'm guessing quite expensive
Hell yeah! Like a real dream come true. People that heard them in the TV say that they were sounding absolutely insane! They costed me 125 euros..
After all that, they couldnt bother to center the dustcap on the cone..lol joking aside these are amazing speakers. I too have always wanted these. One day..
Hahaha true, it's annoying lmao. I hope so much one day you'll find them!
Very nice excursion 🔊🔊
Yay
And this is why the Pride UFO.5 and DD Z subwoofers have a weird looking surround, so it reduces that folding effect, which can cause some loss in sound quality
Exactly! Actually, Bose secretly made a version of these with that "weird" style foam surround to prevent the "dimples"
that is awesome!!
It really is!!
Wow just wow i instantly need some
I understand you! hahaha
what i would do to have some of those drivers. very nice find
I also looked for them for SO long, it was such a surprise to find them on eBay even tho they weren't that cheap
@@ciro589m i cant find them anywhere it sucks man
I got like 4 pairs over time from flea markets in Italy, otherwise I couldn't find them anywhere else
@@ciro589m good looking man
Impressive . available any places?😊
the only way to get hands on these is to hope someday it shows up on eBay
Where can i buy these woofers??
Sadly you can't just buy them, you have to dig for a broken Videowave or someone that sells them as replacement for Videowave
Cerca "Bose Videowave" e capirai
@@ciro589m tv... Hahah adoro. 🤣 Comunque, ripeto, bose sempre bose.
Sì, come dicevo alcune volte impazzisce e fa delle cose assurde, come questa TV con un piccolo home theater integrato
@@ciro589m ma forse tu hai usato un'amplificazione to much? 🤣
@@ciro589m ma l'hai provato anche con il suo condotto? Tieni presente che (sicuramente) il condotto insieme al processore audio (e all'amplificatore) equalizzano gli woofer... No?
Can you give me those speakers? I would love to have no money :(
I don't think I would give them after eleven years of research hahaha
@@ciro589m haha
And still they say Bose is overpriced junk, after seeing this. 🤣🤣
Some stuff are.
yeah like every other brand, 🤣
Harman/Kardon, Bang olufsen, Klipsch, makes some good products but also 1 big junk.
@@scottykilmer3920 Bose is the opposite: 90% of the stuff is mostly overpriced shit and the rest 10% are insane stuff
yet the 10% bose remains better than other 10% brands 😅
